Dude it's nitpicking, I'm not calling him a top 10 QB or anything. Excellent, Pretty well - he played at a level that obviously helped us get to the most victories since 1998. The FO should of gave him a chance to build off that with the roster that came within one drive of going to the SB. So you take away everything that was working and you give him POS players that are me first and aren't team first. No one knows a damn thing what they are doing. That's why I somewhat had Mark's back earlier this year, not so much anymore. Whose fault is it that Mark Sanchez is a "game manager?" I don't think he was ever meant to be that type of player. You can't make someone something they aren't. They put him in that role as a game manager because he made far too many mistakes in year one. They should of made him learn from those mistakes his rookie year and allow him to learn from those mistakes. Sam Bradford is in the same boat, he's a glorified game manager, just like Alex Smith. All are in the same boat. The only difference is the Rams paid way more money for Bradford then we did for Sanchez.
excellent means to excel. pretty well means to a fair degree or moderate. it isn't nitpicking to differentiate the difference between performing at a level that excels and performing only to a moderate level. Sanchez never excelled. he performed moderately. those two cannot be used interchangeably or even similarly. the FO certainly has not done him any favors. considering how far and how fast Braylon has declined I don't think not signing Edwards was that big of a deal, but not replacing him with a comparable receiver last year that would remain on the team for several years that he could develop chemistry with can be argued to have harmed his development. year one he was a game manager and only threw 364 passes -- 25th in the league. from year two on they have put the ball in his hand and have allowed him to pass the ball. in 2010 Sanchez had 507 pass attempts -- 9th highest in the league. that isn't being a game manager. in 2011 he had 543; again 9th most in the league. this year he is on pace for 519. if all he is is a game manager in ability, the Jets made a huge mistake. you don't draft a QB that is only capable of being a game manager 5th and then pay him $50 million dollars. the Jets have done what they should have been doing -- trying to make him a QB that can dictate and win games through the air. if that isn't what he is capable of than they drafted the wrong QB, not failed at developing him.
Biggest issue is when you draft a QB at 5 you build around him...the jets have done the opposite. Since his rookie season they are worse at WR, RB, FB, TE, OL. How many teams strip the offense around a franchise QB? The Falcons brought in Julio Jones to complement Roddy White, Gonzales, and their running game. The Pats always restock their offense - 2 big TE in the same draft, running back, receivers. The Giants always try to surround Eli with weapons. The Ravens got Boldin and Smith ... bring in another TE to replace Heap. Steelers replace burress and holmes with Wallace and brown.
Geez, you would think we won a Super Bowl the way some of you guys think about Edwards. He was a good receiver for 1.5 years for us. He has sucked ever since. Imagine if we paid him Holmes $. Holmes looks like Jerry Rice next to him
From reading this board, you'd never guess that Edwards and Cotchery have had a combined 50 catches since leaving the Jets. I guarantee you that if the Jets had re-signed Edwards instead of Holmes, Jets fans would be whining about the decision. "Maybe 'Tone wouldn't have gotten injured/insubordinate/high if he had stayed in New York!" For what it's worth, I don't disagree with Braylon in this case...but it's also worth noting that he'd have a far easier time finding jobs if he learned to shut the fuck up every once in a while.
Edwards isn't too smart and his words and actions have demonstrated this point repeatedly over the years. Now that he's not a good wr anymore, he as tweeted his way into unemployment.
Yup And then they bring in Tony "the Pug" Sparano to oversee the mess. The guy was run out of Miami because his coaching and play calling stunk. Nice going...... The rats are leaving the ship.....
The only time he was excellent was 2007 when Derek Anderson throwing him the ball in that fluke year. He has been solid for the Jets but after he left his career has fallen off a cliff. For the 3rd pick in the draft in 2005 he has been a bust.
Jake Steinberg @Steiny31 Per CBS Sports, the #Jets approached the Seahawks earlier this season to inquire about trading for Braylon Edwards. He is a free agent now. JUMP!
Whenever you get a chance to sign a receiver who's publicly trashed you to the press and has been released midseason in each of the past two years, you have to do it!!!
CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports that the Jets tried to trade for free agent Braylon Edwards before he was cut by the Seahawks. The Jets reportedly "approached" the Seahawks about an Edwards deal, and were "serious" about making one ahead of the mid-October trade deadline. Seattle was unwilling to part with Edwards at the time. Edwards proceeded to rip the Jets' front office on Twitter in early December, which not only contributed to his release by the Seahawks, but likely eliminated any remaining Jets interest.
John Clayton same the same thing, at least we didn't throw away a conditional 7th. Braylon was an idiot for calling out the Jets.
Tannenbaum is the fucking moron We could have had Edwards for nothing in the offseason, and he tried to trade for him in season. He's a fucking joke
