    think about it this way

if we start kellen this year, and he does miserable (like 2-14)

ten people begin saying hes terrible..the team probly wouldnt do much better the next season

and then Kellen loses his shot in the NFL all because we started him too early

kinda like whats going on with Alex Smith over in San Fran

You're right - I thought of the 2002 season when you talked about the 2004 season. The Chargers team you're talking about hardly had a great defense and we barely beat them. The Steelers team we played in the next round did have a great defense and Penny looked awful. Our defense kept us in that game.

I don't remember the 2003 Tenessee or Oakland teams - so I don't remember them having great defenses. The Jets won 11 games in 2004 with an awesome running game, solid defense and an easy schedule. Pennington managed games.

Clutch QB's perform well under pressure and get the ball to a check down or open receiver. Peyton Manning isn't the best example when talking about big game QB's. Blitz Tom Brady all day and see what happens. Yes, the Patriots do seem to have the forumula for beating Manning and I believe the steelers did use at least some of it.

You're absolutely right. Didn't the Jets have a dominant defense and running game in 2004? If Pennington could have done something against the Steelers defense we could have won that game. Again, he managed the game.

I didn't exactly say that 1 playoff game 4 years ago ruined his career - don't put words in my mouth. I said that the raiders showed how to beat him, which I still believe they did.

Who told you it was a rebuilding year, the Media??? I know you didn't hear the coaches or players call it a rebuilding year. They want to win as many games as they can, and starting Clemens is not the way to go this year.

There are other ways to rebuild than just starting all of your youngest players. Do people think that Shaun Ellis and Eric Barton should be benched because there are rookies at their positions?

Clemens certainly didn't look ready to start last night. He was not an accurate passer and was contained by Philadelphia's second string defense.

Looks to me the B. Smith should be in the mix for the QB of the future! :jets:

This kid has potential, but needs ALOT of work. He holds onto the ball way to long, lacks accuracy, and is a little too nervous looking in the pocket as far as I'm concerned. All the tools are there, it just needs to be refined.

Sitting Palmer was a waste of a year. They would have made the playoffs in his second year if he started in his first year. He also sat behind a healthy QB. That said Clemens doesn't have any where close to the potential of a Carson Palmer. Palmer is the best prospect to come out in years.

Clemens has been good not great. He is doing what is expected of a rookie. Was pretty impressed with hurry up offense against Tampa and his TD pass against Washington but then there were the 2 INTs. I definetley think he will be a great NFL QB. Definetley agree we should have him wait at least one year til he starts. Let him soak some info from Chad and Ramsey.

Let's get real about Clemens. He is going to be 3rd string and only start if Chad and Ramsey get hurt or become ineffective.

Getting "real" is one thing, but using some common sense and a little bit of logic is sorely lacking in the message boards.

Common sense says preseason means nothing.

Logic means not to put a rookie QB out into the NFL frying pan, with a rebuilt offensive line facing unfamilair defenses.

If Clemens does play, either it's mop up time or both Chad and Ramsey are out.

    Quite a sobering thought.....

Chad deserves one more chance. When healthy hes a good player and if he does well so will this team. Clemens will be the eventual starter in the future I think.

Logic is math, 1's and 0's. Just because popular OPINION says not to start a rookie QB in the NFL doesn't mean it's not logical to start one. If you want to say you think it's a bad idea, fine, but don't say it's illogical.

If Pennington goes down like Glass Joe again, I say we trust in Clemens. Ramsey is not the answer, and the star quarterback some may think he is. If he was, then how could a hall of fame coach like Joe Gibbs not have seen it it him?
