The Jets are exactly who We................... or at least I thought they were. I'm a Darksider. Last year i was told by quite a few fans to step off the ledge and relax.... Well.. Here we are. And the funny thing about the NFL is this - Other than a handful of elite teams, what differentiates Most NFL teams is HEALTH and SCHEDULE. We all know the Jets are without 2 of their best players... We also look at the schedule that we all knew was frontloaded... SF, Pats, Pats, HOU, PIT, SEA - ALL considered among the better teams in the NFL -and then of course 1 BAD loss the Miami game at home... So, Give a game, maybe 2, the Jets are right where I thought they would be WITH Revis and Tone!!!!! I'm Right here... Un Fazed by the whirwind of NY Media and Fans who apparently recently woke up from their Tebow / Sanchez / Wildcat coma..... Freaking Beat writers are a clueless JOKE! I'm Right here - With the same exact 8-9 win team, 10 wins with all going right. BUT..... As a Darksider - BRING IT ON.. Because I have hated Tannenbaum for years and felt he was an overrated accountant with ZERO talent evaluation skilz... He was aided by Mangini for a few years and IMO Rex has shown to be of little help Talent wise and gets way to giddy over prospects (see Terminator, Kyle Wilson) So, BRING IT ON... Because I wanted change for a long time now and BOTTOM LINE - You need a great GM to consistently bring in young talent and you need a Top Flight QB to win in this league and not just be one of those middling teams hoping for breaks like the Jets have been..... The NY Jets have Neither!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SO, welcome everyone to MY WORLD where Tannenbaum needs to work at H&R Block and let FOOTBALL decisions be done by real FOOTBALL people. I get this league so, I'm not going to be like some jackass NY media guy talking about shock and awe and boycotting the stadium, I saw this coming.... So, BRING IT....... Whatever it takes to get some changes - NEW GM and he decides wether Rex stays or goes and works the draft properly. This team is probably about to win 4 of the next 5 and wind up at 8-8 pretty much as expected....... I just hope the anger lives and Woody has been shaken enough to make the moves needed and bottom line thats #FIRETANNY. One simple move and let the rest of the chips fall as they may... No more Accountant GM CRAP.
I almost 100% agree. Tanny's talent evaluation is the biggest problem on this team. Find someone with the eye for talent, But we should keep the guy around for his way with finances. He's done a pretty good job with contracts with a few exceptions ( Tone/Sanchez basically ).
Tanny's second biggest problem is front loaded money. I heard the dickheads on SNY talking about this the other day. Ray Lucas says, "I played for a guy where even when you are playing well, you knew your job was on the line. Here, everybody knows there not going anywhere." There's no competition when you give guaranteed money and say this guy is the Franchise QB or WR or whatever. You got to earn your paycheck.
It's worse than that. Tanny is really doing Woody's bidding. It's not like Tanny has discretion to make all the moves. Woody is a hands on owner who doesn't know football. I hate Tanny, too. Nothing admirable being a gopher for an idiot. But the problem is Woody.
Funny thing is, despite all you said being true...we were only a decent QB and a few bad play calls away from winning 2-3 more games, with an easier schedule coming up. I don't want to turn this into another Sanchez bashing thread, but our close games could of all gone the other way if not for poor QBing. It's like after a turnover the life gets sucked out of the team. If we're sitting at 6-5 or 7-4, Tanny and Rex look like geniuses with this roster and our injuries.
I agree on all accounts. Tanny is scum. I disagree on the season...... we will finish 6-10. 7-9 at the absolute most.
Only 2 of the losses were even close (Houston and NE). The rest were pretty much blowouts -- 17, 34, 21, 21 and 30 points. Plus, they really should have lost that first Miami game. Bottom line is that this is a bad collection of players. Sure, they played some good teams, but they got smoked in those games. They are much further away than just a couple bad play calls and poor QB play.
Before the year, I thought we were an 11-12 win team with the "easy" schedule. What I didn't know was that all NFC west teams became solid this year, except maybe the Rams. After Revis, I thought 10-11 wins at best, after Holmes 9-10. Right now we're looking at 9-7 at best, but I honestly don't see it happening. More likely 8-8. I agree about Tanny. He locks up way too much money in the wrong places and makes it so he has to restructure contracts every year, just to make the cap. I really don't like that, it takes away our ability to afford free agents. Unless the Jets go on a mega run this year or next, Tanny is gone after 2013 along with Rex and Sanchez (although I'm hoping we turn it around instead). Tanny is a cap specialist yes, but with football and talent he doesn't know much at all. This off season needs to be exclusively about getting Sanchez weapons (WRs / RBS/ oline), and filling the last couple holes on D (OLBs). We're in a position right now were we literally have tons of youth, and if they all keep developing over this year and next we can be a force, especially on D. I guess we'll see.
I'm not so sure, take out 52 seconds and a RZ pick in the last NE game and that was (could have been) close. A few of the other games were close until late in the game when we had ZERO offense or turn overs aplenty. I agree we have a good deal of crap, but we could have managed a decent enough season to not have fans looking to boycott...or brawl with the team as they leave the field. No way a SB team, but a team that doesn't require bags over the head.
Well you can say the same thing about the Giants last year, They were 7-7 got hot at the right time and rolled threw everyone including us, They looked like trash most of the season last year and got blown out by NO on Monday Night Football and came back from it
No matter what happens at the end of this season, Mike Tannenbaum SHOULD be fired for allowing this disaster to happen during this season.
did you send your resume to Woody yet? Cause you clearly know what you're doing, and you're amazing at telling people i told you so.
We have the worst QB in the league. How do I know this? Not numbers or losses. It is because no opposing defense tries to hurt him because he is their best chance to win.
Scary Thought (one I've thought about since Summer since this season did NOT surprise me: What if either explicitly or implicitly Woody, Rex, and/or MT realized the team wouldn't be that good this year and figured bringing Tebow on board would be a distraction -- a MISDIRECTION -- that to date NOBODY has even given a possible thought about ??? Think about it.....most of the national focus is Tebow Tebow Tebow....not on where has all the talent gone from the 2011 AFC CG !!!! TEBOWTEBOWTEBOW !! No FA signings ? TEBOW !!! Mediocre drafts ?? TEBOW !!! Great locker room to lousy locker room ? TEBOW !!!! No leaders (Richardson, Woody, Faneca, Jones, Edwards) ? TEBOW !!!!! It's stupid, but in a way, brilliant.
Absolutely.....have you seen Bradford lately ? He's not even putting up garbage-time stats. Guys 1st big win -- regular season or playoffs -- will be his first. Anybody here want to say Sanchez can't play big in big games ? Or lead game-winning drives ??? Any takers ???????????????????????
And I don't want to turn this into another defense of Sanchez (because I think he needs to cop a squat too) but you can say it's because of Sanchez and a better QB would have overcome all the mistakes made by both the D and the guys on offense, all the bad penalties, the lack of preparation - OR - you could say that Sanchez could have won if not for those mistakes or lack of preparation. It's a cyclical argument with no real merit from any POV. The Jets are a team full of holes and one guy doesn't influence anything quite that much.
