The question here to me is it's bad enough we have one rookie with stone hands (Hill) we decide to pick up Miamis trash and sign Clyde Gates to be our number 2 reciver. Out of all the options even veteran guys like TO and so on we go after Clyde "Practice Squad Player on 31 other teams" Gates. He can't run a route for shit and just because he is fast doesn't mean he is a good reciver...... Now that he is out with a concussion maybe we can call up Scotty McKnight who for some reason has been lingering around the edges of this team for 2 years and is yet to play a game
This. However, it is alarming that we have guys like Clyde Gates, Ellis Lankster and Lex Hilliard starting for us.
Limited draft picks due to trades, poor talent eval in the late rounds, and too many highly payed players. All hurt depth, and with no money to spend what you end up with is other teams' castoffs.
Does it matter where they were drafted? Outside of Wilkerson most of the guys drafted high by this regime wouldn't play on most playoff caliber teams.
I mean we worked out donnie avery in the offseason and he hasn't done to bad with the Colts but we go after a guy with zero experience instead . Moves like this is why we need to run Tanny out of town
He knows the system. We're thin at the position it made sense to get a guy who knows the playbook. He's obviously a JAG but is getting reps because our roster is full of question marks.
Truthfully I think the WR's are playing better than they really are. They've actually overachieved as a unit. That said, Jets aren't a team w/ alot of depth. They aren't built that way. This skill group has not been healthy for more than a week at a time since training camp. While there's no excuse for how bad this team has played..WR position is lower on the list of issues. This group just can't stay healthy and has #3's & 4's playing as #1 & 2's.
Apparently, he has played better than "Stone Hands Hill". And I think he has good potential. Just because Miami released him after one year doesn't mean shit. He is our 2nd leading WR on our team behind Hill. Yeah, 13 catches dont mean much in 8 games, but we didn't draft him in the second round and he didn't cost us the first pats game along with a ton of other dropped catches. He got extended looks against Dolphins and he showed up with 7 catches 82 yards. I don't care if he's a PS player on 31 other teams, but if he can catch more passes than Hill in the last 8 games, then Im all for it. And TO?? Seriously? Like, wtf is wrong with people? The position we are in, is the exact position where TO becomes a locker room cancer, as if we really need that. Clyde Gates took couple of games to haul in a reception. Scotty McKnight has taken 2 years and running and still doesn't have an NFL appearance. Get a clue.
Agree 100%. We have far deeper problems than WR. We lack depth across the board, and in some areas the starters are subpar, like OL, LB, and QB. Tanny and the scouts have done no favors to this team. It is time to retool in earnest and no longer mortagage draft picks for over the hill players or extending contacts to under achievers. Even more so, select draft picks that are able to make an impact and stay away from projects.
You can't overshadow the lack of play makers at the WR posistion. Across the board if you look at all the great and even medicore QB's in the NFL they all have "THat Guy" that go to guy, the number 1 target of the QB. We just don't have that especially without Holmes.Im not defending Sanchez but I don't think 30 other startering QB's in this league could have success with this bunch.Aside from Peyton Manning
