We're over half way through this season and I just wanted to do a review of what changes need to be made up to this point. What players need to be restructured, dropped, and extentions given. Starting with the highest paid players and working my way down. Mark Sanchez - 5 yr/$58,250,000 (end year) 2016 Like a band-aid I want to tear this one off as quick as possible. He is by far the most controversial topic of change on the roster. I'm not going to get into the semantics of Sanchez but only stick to facts. This guy has not lived up to his newly awarded contact. He has underperformed dramaticly once again over the first half of this year. The question is what is to be done about it. With year after year of seeing the success of rookie QB's and Sanchez playing worse than most of the 1st year starters this year and him being in his 4th is reason for concern. I say we see if we can deal him, if not we drop him. Bart Scott - 6 yr/$48,000,000 (end year) 2014 I love bart and his impact in the locker room, fact is he is looking his age and is playing slower than he ever has. With the emergence of Davis this year playing very well in Barts place, I see him as an area to open cap space and not have to pay him for 2 more years. I say we drop Scott Brandon Moore - 4 yr/$16,000,000 (end year) 2012 Has to be resigned, period. I would like to see him get a 2-3 year contract extention. All we need is our O-line taking another step back. Kyle Wilson - 5 yr/$12,990,000 (end year) 2014 I really don't know what happend to this quy. He was improving so much last year looked like he was on his was to becoming a star and has fell off quite a bit from the 1st round draft pick quality we thought we were getting. Honestly he's looked like any other dime-a-dozen CB in the league this year and his contract neeeds to be restructured. Dustin Keller - 5 yr/$11,750,000 (end year) 2012 I for one think that Keller is a top talent at TE in this league, and that we would be on the losing end to let him go to FA with out a new contract. Eric Smith - 3 yr/$7,500,000 (end year) 2013 Goodbye Gator Arms. Mike DeVito - 4 yr/$6,585,000 (end year) 2012 I love the play of DeVito, I think he's a really good player and teammate. He always does what's needed of him and always talks with a team first perspective. To me this one all comes down to money and how much we will have to pay. Though I would love to see him back. LaRon Landry - 1 yr/$3,500,000 (end year) 2012 Other than Brandon Moore I think this is our #1 priority in the off-season, he must be resigned! It makes me giddy (yes, I said giddy) to think of a full year with him Revis and Cro in the backfield. That's just scary. Shonn Greene - 4 yr/$2,655,000 (end year) 2012 If we can get him for another 2.6 mil I say we go for it. If not I say we let him test the waters and see whats out there. May be he comes back, maybe not. Either way he's a decent bruiser but not really a special talent in my opinon. I could see a Powell/McNight combo being more productive. Matt Slauson - 4 yr/$1,850,200 (end year) 2012 He sure has come a long way since first being plugged in there. I think he's deserved another contract. Besides it's not like there's a whole lot of choices out there. Yeremiah Bell - 1 yr/$1,400,000 (end year) 2012 To me this one depends on if he's going to want a long contract or not. If he would sign on for another similar contract I think we go for it, maybe ever a 2 year deal. Old mans looking good out there. Aaron Maybin - 1 yr/$1,015,000 (end Year) 2012 Wait... Maybin still plays for us? Are you sure, let me check. Looks like he still does. Strange I haven't seen him show up all year. If we can get him on the cheap again why not, he's a young player with a lot of speed and rushing ability. Robert Malone - 1 yr/$465,000 (end year) 2012 This kid played for a contract and I think he got it.
Mike Tannenbaum Rex Ryan don't know their contract numbers are, but these are the two priorities. Fire them, bring in all new staff and let them sign their own new players
yea this makes sense...lets get rid of a coach who has put the Jets back on the map and has had playoff success...lets bring in new people n bitch some more about how the new people can't get it done...
Demote Tanny, fire Terry, Cut Bart Scott, Calvin Pace and Eric Smith. Brandon Moore should be cut then resigned. Mark will be on the roster for one more year, but we should sign a Jason Campbell. Btw get rid of Tebow and find a feature back through the draft (guy from Stanford?). That would be a good start. Oh and if Norv Turner is fired, fire Sparano and bring in Norv. Good start.
Ummm, I don't see anywhere where he states the season is over. I believe he is looking forward to upcoming contracts. I also don't believe that he said we should sit anyone, or cut anyone this season.
No way to force Sanchez to restructure, his deal is guaranteed for 2013. (where have we seen this before?) No way to cut because of a huge cap hit in 2013. Cut. Old under-performing guards are a cut not a re-sign. Move to safety. Cut if he can't handle that. He can still be the nickelback in 5 back sets if he is moved to safety assuming the Jets think that is best. No idea. Cut. Keep as rotational depth if he is affordable. He's not worth even a medium deal though. Re-sign if affordable. Let go if not. Re-sign as rotational depth if a #1 back can be found. Let go if the alternatve is to sign him to a deal as a #1 back. Not a starter in the NFL If the Jets can get him as depth that's fine but if not let him go. You want to sign a 35 year old player to a two year deal? Really? Cut. Cut. He's a punter. No idea.
Whether people like it or not Sanchez is coming back next year. Deal with it. Rex and Tanny probably are too, depending how we round out the year (i.e. if we get to .500 or better they stay, if not then maybe they go). I agree with all the other comments that the OP had on who to cut and who to keep. As for offseason priorities I would say our number one priority is bringing in a legitimate #1 RB preferably through the draft if possible, if not then signing or trading anything other than picks (which, obviously, reduces the options). Our team is built around having a strong run game but we don't have one, Sanchez is better with a good RB and we manage the clock a lot better and keep our defense fresher. Other than that I think we just have to draft and sign guys to plug the holes of other guys leaving (i.e. the guys we cut or don't re-sign). Keep in mind we will also have Revis and Holmes coming back from injury for next season (maybe not for week 1) as well. So them coupled with bringing in a legit #1 RB and replacing some of our older guys (i.e. Scott) with younger guys could make a huge difference in and of itself.
On that list I'm pretty this is what will happen. Pace - gone Scott - gone unless comes back for vet min Sanchez - we're stuck with him until after next season for better or worse and he was already restructured Moore - gone Wilson - we'll sign for cheap Keller - should be #1 priority to resign Eric Smith - gone Devito - might come back for vet min Landry - #2 priority to resign Greene - bring him back if the price is right. Slauson - same as Greene. Ducasse has looked better as of late Bell - probably gone, could see another year for cheap. Maybin - This is a tough one. He showed promise last year but has laid an egg this year. We thought he'd keep improving. We need fast linebackers, though, so he'll get a cheap deal Malone - resigned FA moves - sign an OLB and potentially a WR/RB Draft priority: OLB, OG, OT, RB/WR (whatever we don't sign), OLB, TE
I'm so sick of this,"he put us on the map" bullshit. Football is a business of "what have you done for me lately", and all Rex and Tanny have done is fill the locker room with cancerous players and lose the team at the end of last season. Put a #1 top 5 draft pick in a position to FAIL by surrounding him with mediocre talent. Leave the team DREADFULLY thin depth wise. FAIL to address top needs in FA(offensive line) FAIL to put a team on the field ready to play EVERY SUNDAY. GET WORSE EVERY SEASON! I could go on and on.
I guess you haven't watched the Jets for that long. We've been better the last 4 years, than most of the last 20.
So it looks like for the most part people are echoing my sentiments on the individuals. My concern is what do you really think we would do without Moore? I don't see what solution you think there is. We've seen just exactly how bad it can get when our O-line is thin, and Ducasse could be the next WFH experiment trying to start him. I'm really shocked Landry isn't getting more love. This guy has been the bright spot in what has been a dismal year so far. He has played lights out at times, just all over the field. Keep in mind he has done this coming off of an injury with only having played 17 games the last 2 years combined. Not to mention he has stayed healthy with no issues. This guy is a top 5 talent at his position, and he has 4.3 speed... RESIGN THAT BEAST!
REX: Ugh...I'd hate to see him go already...he needs to wake up and get a clue. Calling prevent in the end of the NE game gave me bad Mangini flashbacks. Sanchez: I could see him going to KC after they go 2-14 along with most of our picks for their overall #1 pick. Cassel and Quinn are awful! EVEN IF that happened....Its likely Tanny would draft a guard or a fullback first overall right and completely waste our pick. This guy is a flaming pile. ****Sanchez and Rex will be back for their final year in 2013. Final that is if it doesnt improve. Tannenbaum: See previous post^^^ He's a flaming Pile and needs to go ASAP. Moore: Too old, bye Pace: Too slow, bye Thomas: See Pace and Moore Maybin: Give him one more year and actually let him play more than 3 snaps a game. Bart Scott: I kinda think he's playing better this year than in the last few?? But he's definatley gotta go. Demario Davis is the future. Yeramiah Bell: I really like him but too old. Kyle Wilson: Yes...move to safety Laron Landry: IMHO, He has to stay. Hardest hitting safety in the NFL. Sign him long term. (go ahead and flame) Training camp is 4 miles from my house and I watched Landry every chance I could. Even hitting bags no one hits harder. He's sick. Matt Slauson: First one to go IMHO. He's awful. Ducasse has proved this year he is getting better and is better than Slauson already. Bilal Powell: Cut, not big enough or fast enough Eric Smith: next one out the door right behind Slauson Shonn Greene: Sign cheap and rotate with a speed back that our new GM will draft.
Pace, Scott, and the smith brothers ( Jason and Eric) will be gone or resigned at a low end contract. That alone gets us 30 mill in cap space. P DeVito should be brought back for his versatility. I want to see Landry and Keller back as well. Moore has been slipping for a couple years now. We need to at least replace him if not both guard spots this offseason. Sanchez? He'll I'm up in the air. He's not much of a leader and is wildly inconsistent. If we have a chance at a top end QB in the draft it means the second half of the season was as ad at the first and we need to start looking at our options here. Greene is a good, not great back. Resign him at a reasonable price if possible. Same goes for Bell. Malone should be retained and Wilson is under contract, so just leave him as is. He is an underrated Cb. Maybin can go. He's shown to be little more than a pure speed rusher and only so-so at that. One possible supprise move could be to release pouha. It would not be popular but save us almost 4 mill next year and 5.5 the year after. While I love his play while healthy, a guy his age with a bad back is not staying healthy long at the nose. I would love to get Warmack at guard and go back to Bama I found two for Lacy. If we keep up this pace we should be in the prime range for both of them and really rebuild the ground and pound offense.
:rofl::rofl::rofl: This is a real post???? You are a real fan???? Yeah fucking right. The cliff is that way. Do us all a favor. I'll agree that if we get to 3-6 it's pretty much over barring a miracle, but acting like we already lost to the SEAHAWKS is fucking stupid, especially coming off a bye where we have time to rest and prepare. Win the next 2 games and we're 100% back in the playoff race. It's not over by a longshot and whether we make the playoffs or not has little bearing on the players that were listed and what likely moves will happen this coming off season.
