I said when you hired him that you will wish you had Schotty back. Sparano is a walking clusterfuck. Even the players in Miami were tiring of his overly anal approach to minute details. IWhen he was in Miami I heard the fans make the same excuses that I hear in here about his offensive responsibilities in Dallas. He was never an OC, he only called running plays for one season and I think you guys can see why. If Sparano is still in New York after the season, I'll be shocked.
Indeed..very telling. Confusion and indecision in battle is fatal. This is the sign of an X & O's guy, and not a leader in the battlefield. There's a big difference.
Hmm, yet another sign of an X & O's guy, and not a "coach". A coach is always making their individual players better and smarter. This is not a chess match. They spoke alot before the Miami game about how hard they practiced and prepared. You have to question what goes on in practice. Another suggestion to Rex is to think real hard about what your OC is doing for you. Don't be overly optimistic about how well your team does against hihgly favored teams, a big effort in a situation like that is not unusual. The better guage is how they do against their equals day in and day out.
They also spoke of this Tebow package, in fact were very secretive in the pre-seasonabout it. Where is it? Lining him up as a WR 4 times or being the up back on punt formations?
We can see now the Jets & Rex were spouting nonsense. Tebow super-secret-sauce packages are basically him running up the middle & hoping something happens.
this post is on point. Sparano doesn't use Sanchez the right way, sanchez is best in the no huddle hurry up offense because ultimately he's a momentum player. There's broadly speaking 2 types of qbs, meticulous read the defense set up the right play etc type of qbs like a Peyton Manning, andrew luck or a momentum playmaking qb like a Romo, Favre or Sanchez. Sanchez isn't the best at reading the defense at the line and audibling to the right play but if u just let him hurry it up and draw up the plays in the mud and street ball then he will be succesful. tebow is the 2nd type of qb as well.
The entire Jets organization should do exactly what they are doing, circle the wagons. Per Rex's post Dolphin game statements of reopening a coach's suggestion box, I would encourage Rex to expand his suggestion box to the entire team. Regardless of how good or bad any particular coach or player is, the entire Jets organization is NFL caliber and deserves the support of its fans. It's arguable that there isn't a nichol's worth of difference between NFL teams and that the difference between winning and losing rests on a variety of factors, some of which are often out of the control of any one person. Team chemistry is a big key to success and this is THE time for that chemistry to harden into the immovable object of 'commitment to the WIN'. If that happens, win or lose, we will see good football games, and there is plenty of time after this season to micro manage the various parts of puzzle.
I don't think Sanchez is necessarily not good at reading defenses at the line but its more of them restricting what he can do. He definitely had a tight leash under Schotty and knowing Sparano, its still tight. I knock Sanchez a lot but honestly, if Matt Moore leaves the Dolphins after the season and the Jets part ways with Sanchez, I would hope the Dolphins sign him. He needs to be taught the position by someone who understands it and I think he needs a couple years as a back up then go somewhere and start over. A WCO is perfect for him.
This thread sure got off track. Surprise Surprise. Most of our issues are on offense. I think that special teams cost us the Fins game, but I trust Westhoff to get that squared away. (1) Sanchez is still the starter, but we have to use the Tebow package more effectively and more often. (a) The two yard Tebow plunge is getting really old. I realize it is a positive play, but we're at the point where we need more big plays to give us a lift. Let him throw the ball once or twice to soften up the D. Run a reverse. Mix it up a bit. (b) Get your shit together on how and when the Tebow package is used because it looks like a goddamn Chinese fire drill! Give Tebow the play on the sideline and send him in to run it. (c) Forget having Tebow and Sanchez out there at the same time since having 2 QBs on the field defeats one of the main advantages to the package in the first place (having to account for the QB as a threat). (d) Use Tebow in short yardage situations! (2) If you want to run the ball, put 8 fat guys on the line with Hill out wide and pound it! Watch the Niners. That's how they average 5+ yds per rush and set up play action. (3) Use the TE and/or the RB to chip the ends on passing downs, and don't leave Howard on an island against the opposition's speed rusher.
This is an offensive league. Defense is secondary. Until he learns that there is no hope for a turnaround. Rex is a nice fellow but he does not understand the league. Isn't that an amazing statement if only partially true. As he has said many times, he really is not good at much but he knows defensive football. He is over his head in today's NFL.
Honest response? - Stop running it with Greene unless it's short yardage situation. Every team in the league knows we're going to try running it on 1st and 10. It's predictable and it only gets us 3 yards maximum. - Stop swapping out Tebow when Sanchez has momentum. You're killing any chance we have with offensive energy. If you want to swap them out on series, go for it, but let him finish out the series. - If we're in the red zone go no huddle. Again as above, time management and confusion in the huddle is killing our offensive drives. - Why the fuck would you run it on long yardage situation and pass it on short yardage situation? Get your head out of your ass. - If we're down by 14 or more points and in a 4th and 1 situation of course you should go for it. - If we're down by 14 or more points and it's the 2nd half stop kicking for field goals and start going for TDs. Play to win, stop playing not to lose. - Defense is getting bit hits and missing big tackles because no one is wrapping up their targets. - What ever happened to the plan of running two TEs in a play? - If we're trailing the game have Sanchez start airing it out to Kerley in the end zone. Does no one remember our big plays in 2010? That's all I have for now.
My suggestions: -don't defer the kick if you win the toss, hasn't worked so well for us so far so why keep doing it? -get a legit feature back somehow, Greene is not a legit #1 guy and Sanchez isn't able to win every game (or any game, seemingly) with his arm alone -play calling...play calling...play calling (as someone said: don't run on third and longs and throw on third and shorts) -tell your players to keep their mouths shut, you win the game on the field not in the papers
Yep. The Jets offense needs to score, but at a minimum, needs to convert enough first downs to allow the defense to rest and to maintain decent field position. Otherwise, it doesn't matter how good a defense is, given enough plays from scrimmage a good offense will eventually break them down. Not saying the Jets defense is great, but they have been put between a rock and a hard place much of the season.
Solid points. I agree with all of them. I've been begging for double tight end schemes for weeks. "Confusion" seems to be the best description for our offense. I don't think a defensive coordinator would have much trouble studying tape and defending our offense. Miami obviously did that.
