Oh hell yes, get this done tangini! We've got 2 second rounders, I wouldn't mind trading one of them to the pats for branch, maybe throw in a 6th or 7th with it to seal the deal. Or maybe something like a 2nd + JMac.
I'm talking when Penny took over. I do remember Santana having a tough time of it here trying to catch Penny's passes, before going to Washington and being more successful there with a faster delivery.
What ARE YOU talking about??? Low ball the Pats???? If you haven't heard there are other teams involved. If they don't the Jets offer, there's Seattle and Minnesota willing to overpay. They're in the drivers seat. They DECIDE where Branch goes. Do you SERIOUSLY think they want to see Branch in their division? If the Jets want Branch, they have to pay THEIR price. If they can't, Branch either sits,or suits up unhappily. I think Branch is professional enough to be the a good soldier.
Update on Branch 'HAWKS, JETS ANGLE FOR BRANCH Published reports indicate that the other team in the hunt for Patriots receiver Deion Branch is the Seattle Seahawks. Earlier on Friday, we reported that the Jets are one of two teams who have offered Branch a contract worth six years and $36 million. But we're now told that the Jets don't genuinely expect to land Branch from a division rival, and that they jumped into the fray primarily as a favor to Branch's agent, Jason Chayut, and in order to make it harder for the Patriots to ultimately keep Branch. In fact, some league insiders are wondering why other AFC teams (specifically division rivals in Buffalo and Miami) haven't matched or increased the financial offer, for no reason other than to pressure the team into moving Branch somewhere. That somewhere, for now, figures to be Seattle. The other possibility, in our view, would be a decision by the Patriots to match the offer that Seattle has made. But $36 million over six years might still be more than the Pats are willing to pay. Either way, something is going to happen within the next two hours -- unless New England chooses to extend the artificial deadline put in place a week ago.
lets play pretend for a second, if you were the pats and you got offered from the jets a 2nd rounder and you got offered a 3rd rounder from the broncos way over in the AFC West WHICH ONE DO YOU THINK THEYD TAKE, youd bet your ass theyd take the 2nd..screw it if they have to play him twice a year, the pats will take whats best for the pats
I could see how we couold make it more difficult for the Pats, but why the heck would we do it as a favor to Branch's agent?
i don't see how out of all the teams, it is the seahawks.....they just gave nate burleson a monster contract, they have darrell jackson, who would have to sit?
1) Next time we have to negotiate with him.. we did him a favor so he may do us one. 2) If the Pats offer Branch a 1 yr deal to get him in camp this year (I know he has a deal, but if they offer hiim more to get him in this year only) then he'll probably look at us first as a FA 3) The agent has other clients, I'd assume 4) It doesn't hurt us because it hurts the pats.
I'm totally in for JMac and a second for Branch. No way 2 #1's. I would even go so far as JMac, a 3rd and 6th. That's it though. The only other way I would work it is maybe a 2nd, and a 4th, straight up, no player sent over. Then JMac gets traded elsewhere to recoup the 4th, and maybe a 6th.
I certainly hope we're not engaging in this kind of nonsense although I guess it's not inconceivable. Don't forget, this can be a two way street. We do this to the Pats and they can easily do the same to us when it's time to re-sign Clemens or Graham or Brad Smith, for example. Maybe this is done all the time though. If so, I don't remember anything in recent history where it was done to us, but maybe I'm wrong.
