If Hill catches that pass we might be up 4 with a minute and a half to go and they would have been out of timeouts. That is a play he HAS to make.

    1. It doesn't matter what would have happened IF he caught the ball. He didn't.
    2. One play did not lose us this game.

You can make the arguement that the offense is better without Holmes but if that pass is to Holmes he catch's it 100 times

Clearly you don't remember the gift TD vs the Bills that he dropped (while we were gunning for a playoff spot), or the ball that slipped through his hands vs the Bengals in the playoffs.

I don't think that matters. Like all other athletes in a quick move situation like that, the mind has already decided where the hands are going. It's like in tennis when they teach you to watch the racket hit the ball. Nobody does that or should do it because once you start the swing, you can't change it right before the ball hits the racket. You brain has already sent the signal to your body telling it what to do. The whole swing is decided well before the ball hits the racket.

If he catches the ball Greene fumbles or #6 throws a pick. We are doomed.

in that situation we still only tie the game(we were trailing 23-20 at the time) at which point the game still goes into overtime, were we lost

Hill cost the Jets the game. Plain and Simple.

It's not as if it was a difficult catch, right in his damn hands and thrown very catchable. He very easily could've scored on that, and even if he didn't they have a 1st and goal inside the 5 and they waste time, scoring a TD there. 27-23 Jets win.

I don't care if he's a rookie and very inexperienced in his career - that catch absolutely HAS to be made in the NFL. It was a stupid draft selection anyway, drafting a WR that has problems catching/inexperience catching the ball.. He looks great out there but he does the Jets NO good if he can't catch the ball.

Why does everyone assume we would have scored had Hill caught the ball? That's such faulty logic. There were 2 defenders in the area. Not only that, we couldn't punch it in from the 3 earlier in the game. People in this thread are operating in a vacuum. The play contributed to the loss (no doubt), but I could cherry pick a bunch of other plays/penalties that are far more deserving of criticism.

Yes, but that play did not single-handedly lose us the game.

People are such bullshit saying that the Jets lost on the Hill drop. They tied the game on that drive and got the ball back on the 18 yard line the following kickoff! If that kickoff happened at another moment in time, there's no saying that McCourty fumbles the ball. However, at that very moment he did and the Jets had the ball on the 18 with a tie game. So how can you blame anything that occurred prior to that?

If you told anyone here that the Jets would have the ball on NE's 18 with a tie game with 2 minutes left, every single one of us would say sign me up, we have this game.

Hill looks like a player, but that missed ball...go figures happens on the biggest play of the game.

    One Point Not mentioned....

Yes that ball that Sanchez threw was a duck...off his back foot...looked over to that side too late...Whatever!

But...Hill just stood there & watched the ball get intercepted! He needs to learn to bail out his QB and become s defensive back on a throw like that! Even if he gets an offensive PI call - better than a pick!

He tried to make a play before he caught the ball. It's a horrible mistake, but one that many players make.

Hill looked pissed off after that drop. You could tell it affected him. Hopefully that play will be the motivator that helps him take his game to the next level. He's still a rookie with little experience but that was an easy catch.

Unless he bobbles it up into the air for a game-breaking Int as he did against the Eagles last season. Or fumbles the ball for a game-wrecking turnover as he did against the Eagles last season.

Santonio Holmes has no game in him that is not gift-wrapped by his QB and even then he'll find a way to fuck it up now and then.

Fact is that the Jets got the ball right back with a tie game with a fresh set of downs and couldn't do anything. Who's to say that if Hill catches that ball, that McCourty fumbles the ball on the kickoff after whatever happens after? Who's to say that the Jets don't fumble or throw an INT after?
