I researched it a little and the Colts/Packers game was a little different. It was a scoring play so obviously the situation is different. There is nothing in the article about the play not being reviewed because the Colts threw threw the challenge flag on a TD pass by the Packers. Howvere under the new rule it should have been a 15 yard penalty. This appranetly happened in the Redskins/Rams game in which Fisher threw a challenge flag on an unreviewable play but the replacement refs did not throw the flag.

So while I can not confirm the play should not have been reviewed I can confirm that it should have beena 15 yard penalty on the Pats.

Easy. I was just asking. If he three the flag, he should have been flagged. But, i've only seen it called in one other NFL game this year (by replacement refs) and gone without penalty in a few others. I thought maybe there was some specific part of the rule that i was unfamiliar with (like, during the last minute of a half, or something). I don't know. They may have blown it.

"The clarification specifically prohibits a defender on the ground who hasn't been blocked or fouled directly into the quarterback from lunging or diving at the quarterback's lower legs."

Yeah so it is a penalty. It's not just launching.

Dude, you said this " AND the play is automatically no longer reviewable". That article just says its 15 yards which we ALL agree with. Please tell me why its not reviewable anymore?

Wow. That might be the dumbest rule in all of sports. The clock is already stopped. Who cares if a coach wrongly throws the flag ... the point is to get the calls correct. I realize it would have helped us, but they really need to change that.
I thought golf had some idiotic rules, but that one trumps everything.

I don't see how the play would become non-reviewable. If that was the case, then if I were Rex, I would have thrown my challenge flag, and take the 15 yard dead ball penalty but keep possession of the ball.

Why are you yelling at us? We are all just as pissed. I watch the Jets on tv therefore I do not really care about the Colts and Packers so I did not see it. Didn't see anywhere that the play wasnt reviewable.

But the article you linked to says nothing about it being unreviewable. Sorry but I have better things to do with my time then watch the Colts/Packers and Redskins/Rams.

Exactly the rule does not allow the defender from continuing play from the ground

If you challenge a play that is automatically reviewable it's a 15 yard penalty? You need to source that BS, my friend.

    Rule 15 section 9. http://static.nfl.com/static/content/public/image/rulebook/pdfs/2012 - Rule Book.pdf#page=97

    The wording is tricky

However, there's a part of the rule that says:
To me the important part is that the foul would delay the next snap. The Patriots didn't delay the next snap by throwing a challenge flag. So they should have been penalized the 15 yards, but the review still should have technically occurred.
