Today it looked like Herm was back coaching the Jets. I never understand a defense running the prevent defense all it does is prevent you from winning. The prevent defense should only be run if you have zero time on the clock. A team can shut down an offense all day and go to the prevent and allow the fastest score in history.

They weren't really in a prevent, it was a nickel D and some kind of zone. Prevent is when everyone is deep.

They didn't blitz or run a 4 man pressure which I think is stupid too but then knew the at would pass. THe beef is the fact that 2 straight passes went to Gronk for first downs....of all people, that's who you cover. And Davis on Welker was ridiculous....

I hope Woody overeacts and names Tebow the starting QB, Sanchez once again proved why I hate him

Your agenda is pretty clear. This thread has nothing to do with Sanchez.

The safeties were deep, and that is a killer against the Pats.

This was the worst. The Jets allowed one Patriots drive the entire second half prior to this puss fest. The Pats handed them the game on a silver platter and Rex tucked his tail between his legs, rushed 3 every play and played not to lose. In 2009 he would have blitzed 6 guys 3 plays in a row and won the game in regulation.

When you play prevent, you play to lose. You give the opposing QB all the time in the world to find an open receiver and eventually someone WILL get open.

Yep. Whether it was a prevent formation or not, it played out like the prevent. After the 1st play I could see what was about to happen. I was hoping they only got a FG. Predictable outcome.

Should have used a TO there and got the defense set. Pats only had one TO and we could have disrupted them and put them in a desperate spot.

Especially v the Patriots. With Brady and that group of receivers. We're lucky they didn't score a TD then.

This is the first of the post game threads to hit the nail on the head. The game belonged to the Jets until the coaches decided to go soft on defense. Whether it is in a college game or the pros, every time I see a defense go soft I want to go and pound on the coaches head. How many times does this type of defense have to fail before they wake up.

    Once again history repeats itself.

look i agree with u folks but what can the jets do - its not like they have a couple sackmasters out there that can go after brady.

no revis - wilson needs some help - i mean d. davis was caught on welker a few times.

if we had revis i am sure it would have been more aggressive out there. what can u do.

The Jets only gave up one score in the second half prior to that FG playing their normal defense. Going into prevent was stupid. They should have just kept doing what was working!

    3-Man Rush & Prevent D

Someone ask Rex when this crap worked for him when he didn't have a linebacker named Ray Lewis.

Typical "clutch" defense from Rex. That was worse than allowing Moore to go down the field last year taking up the majority of the 4th QTR.

Just wanted to add my observations - I put this loss on the D ..the D played lights out for the majority of the game and then with the game on the line, played scared and practically waved the white flag with those 3 man rushes on back-to-back drives

Even with the lack of a play-making pass rusher, history time and time and time again, both with the Ravens and the Jets has shown that Rex playing that type of D has not been able to close out games throughout his career - at some point you'd think he'd try something different

That seems to be the modus operandi for Rex's Ds his entire career - dominate 3.5 quarters of football, curl up in the fetal position with the game on the line

That's REALLY what you want? You want to replace Sanchez, somebody who's improved his game drastically the last couple weeks with somebody that's worse? He was ranked 5th in the league this week. Woody would be a complete moron to do something like this but even stupider is the guy that posts about Sanchez in a thread about the defense. Keep the blind hatred and overall emo nonsense to yourself.

I don't really like the prevent D. I think teams should just play the way they have been playing all game, especially if its effective. I don't blame the D for this loss though. They only let in 20 points to a team that averages 31 a game. We simply made 1 mistake too many.

I'll say this. The prevent defense works...but only against crappy QBs. It forces the QB to try to make a play and crappy QBs will choke and make bad throws. It is not "playing scared".

The problem is, we were playing against Tom Brady. Tom Brady is going to take his time, find the open receiver, and make the play. He's no rookie. He needs to be pressured so he's thinking about the sack instead of which receiver he'd like to make look good that play.
