    Will the Jets do it?

I think Tennessee and Buffalo can be beat.:)

A win over NE or Indianapolis would be an incredible start for Mangini.

I'm not seeing a win over NE anytime soon. Brady is going to methodically ream us a new... well,... Brady will be Brady, even in our own house.

But let's still try 4-3 by October 22nd. Wins over Tennessee, Buffalo, Miami (home game) and Detroit (also a home game). Losses to NE, IND and Jacksonville. Anything's possible, I suppose.

Beating New England or Indianapolis seems impossible at the moment.

    I would take 2-2, but I could see 1-3 or 0-4.

We should have beaten Jacksonville last year. They were the worst 12-4 team in the history of football.

Half the league will probably be 2-2, why not us?

Gotta win 3 out of the first 4.
Tenn: We SHOULD win this game, no doubt.
NE: Student beats master in shocker, I say the pats are weakened and we take the cake here. We WILL win this game.
Buff: We always have trouble in buffalo, time to end that.
Colts: Pull off the upset? Oh how great it would be, but can't get greedy here.

    I say 3-1.

If we won 3 games in the division, I'd be okay with that.

We are rebuilding. I just want to see progress in individual players and as a team as the season unfolds.

Next year, after a decent draft and a few FA pick-ups .... perhaps we can talk "play-offs". I'm keeping my expectations in check this year.

2-2? Sure. 3-1 I'd be happy. 0-4 We gotta win ONE!. 4-0 Not a chance.

You guys have to take your rose colored glasses off for a moment and put down the green cool aid. You know what they are saying in Tennesse right now ? Jets in week 1, thats a win. Same thing in Buffalo. We have no games on our schedule that we "should" win. Plain and simple, we stink. Hopefully improving, but we stink. We have 2 rookie OL's. No TE. Subpar receivers. No Running back. A question mark at QB. A kicker who can't hit them over 47 yrds, and whose kickoffs land at the 6. A NT who belongs as a DT in a 4-3. No backup NT. A new HC. A new DC. A new OC (can you say the usual excuse, we need time to gel ?).

Can we be 6-10, sure ? this is the NFL, anyone can be 6-10. Are we likely to be 6-10, no. Figure us as a 4-5 win team. We are worse than we were last year on talent.

I agree with you completely in the first paragraph. The sun was getting quite bright in here for a second. Every fan on any other team looks at there game vs. us and thinks THERE team should win. The reason is that in today's nfl, teams like ours that our rebuilding, or rather not yet a contender, have a remote chance of beating true contenders (NE and IND) and decent chance of beating other rebuilding teams. DECENT, not a lock to win, but if the ball falls our way we have a chance to win.

I would love to hear exactly how we are going to score points consistently...dinking and dunking will not get you in the endzone. Teams know how to play chad, stack the middle of the field and make him force throws in tight places because they know he doesn't have the arm strength to throw an out route more then 5 yards without someone getting there to knock it down. There isn't a team in the nfl that has had as much change as we have had this offseason, and it will take time for us to adapt to everything.

My guess is we will be 1-3 in our first 4 games this season, UNLESS something miraculous happens before now and then. You cannot look at this team on paper and say we can do any better then 2-2 w/o being a homer.

2-2 is definitely as good as we can hope for through the first 4 games. NE and IND are guaranteed L's. Sure, it's the NFL and any given Sunday, blah blah, but there is no way they win either of those two.

Going into Buffalo worries me, but the Bills still stink, so that game is a tossup either way.
Tennessee can be beat, I just hope they can be beat by the Jets.

2-2 can be done, provided we can stop the run. Our nose tackle situation concerns me greatly. If we can't stop the run, I can see us going 0-4.

I don't think New England is as unbeatable as in the past, particularly if Deion Branch is holding out or traded. They're more beatable than they've ever been.

Take your blood colored glasses off for a moment and put down the black koolaid. Who cares what Tennessee and Buffalo fans are saying? The fact that we are rooting for the Jets makes us far superior fans than anyone else in the NFL, and that also makes us more knowledgeable so you should trust the opinions of those on this board and nowhere else... now with that out of the way...

You listed some very valid reason why the Jets are going to struggle, but a few of the things you listed are positives... specifically the new HC... you think having a brand new Mangini is a downgrade from Herm? Honestly? Tennesee is starting Kerry Collins week 1... Kerry Collins might be the worst starting QB in the entire NFL at this point. The Titans are a patchwork team without much talent on D or O. They have some nice players but for the most part they are in a worse boat than us. Buffalo is now being coached by Dick Jauron, enough said. We could field our third stringers against them and Dick will find a way to keep us in it. New England is extremely tough, but they aren't as good as in past years, so at the very least, some good coaching could maybe give us a chance. Same deal with Indy, very good team, but they don't have Edge anymore... how is that going to affect them? No one knows at this point.

Lets look at the Jets positives... New HC & GM, Chad is back, and he's got backups, including a QB of the future, WR depth, revamped and developing O-Line, Shaun Ellis back, Von Oelhoffen good pickup for 3-4 DE, a sick LB corps, and a very very good DB... not to mention a potentially great special teams unit. Things are not as bad as they seem. The Jets have the potential to put up a decent showing this year.

remember the first game of last year, in kansas city. we couldn't stop the run to save our lives, in a 4-3, with suppossedly a decent defense. i dont' see us stopping the run very much, at least in the beginning of the season. undersized D-line, and undersized backers. gonna be a long season.. face the facts.

I'm not guaranteeing a win vs. Tenn, but I'd be very surprised if we ended up showing as bad vs. Tenn as we did vs. K.C. That was a joke. The 1st team D has not been that bad (not great), but we should do better.

The Jets went into the KC game last season completely unprepared and unconditioned... this is something that the Jets did almost every year save one under Herm. The Jets were not ready to compete in an NFL game, I have full faith they will be this year. You can't compare this year and last as there is a new coach AND a new defensive scheme.
