We know Brian. Thanks for the clarification. If the defense can keep them from stretching the field, the front 7 might see some improvement. I'm interested in seeing more of Harrison up front, he looked good on Monday night when he subbed in.
Pouha's back problem has hindered his play and without him being his normal self everything else seems to be knocked down a peg as well. Really hope his back gets better. Pace and Thomas are supposed to excel in run support, that's their skill. I mean, they don't rush the passer, or hang in coverage.... I love Thomas he is a classy Jet but he's gotta go as does Pace. Not that we all don't know that, feel like spewing it.
You might not of heard of Ballard before this week but my guess is this guy runs for a bunch of yards this Sunday,,,,ugh is this what it has come to ? Hoping that the jets can somehow beat a rebuilding colt team with a rookie qb ?
Brown being out is a big break if the other guy isn't fast and shifty. The Jets shut down the Steelers pounders when Mendenhall was out.
Which LB walks the plank first? Assuming we can only draft one top LB per season, which one goes first? I'd go in this order: Bart Scott (his replacement may already be on the team) Bryan Thomas, next Kelvin Pace, last. Thomas plays the strong side and is the most important position to get filled, so I whack him before Pace.
He's also 33 years old and it's probable that he's starting to hit a natural down swing in his physical skills. I wouldn't be surprised if we never saw Pouha play as well as he did the past 2.5 seasons again.
this. at the least davis replces scott mcentire (sp) replaces thomas draft pick replaces pace it would have been nice if maybin would have developed into a 3 down olb then the draft urgency would have been lessened a bit, however it looks like thats not happening. so we will be drafting defense once again in the 1st round
The people the Jets should replace in the lineup *this* season with people already on the roster: 1. Bryan Thomas 2. Bart Scott 3. Matt Slauson 4. Brandon Moore The Jets cannot run the ball and they cannot stop the run. The 4 players above are the biggest culprits.
Amen to that. Slauson can't pull to save his life. Moore is just a step slow this year. Scott and Thomas run with cinder blocks.......
On top of the FO having to have a great draft to plug in 1/2 of the holes in the roster, there's the Revis ($) issue that'll be looming.
The truth is you can't replace an entire corp in one offseason. You have to replace the players that are the most negative impact on the team, and hope that other players play better as a result of this. For that reason, I expect Bart Scott to be the first to go. He has a bloated contract and is a weakness where a 3-4 defense really needs a strength. If DeMario Davis is up to the task, all the better. I expect a first round pick, (possibly high) to be spent on an OLB, hopefully of Von Miller or Aldon Smith quality. If so, Pace will be cut because he also has a bloated contract. With the LB corp revamped as such, Bryan Thomas may stay, depending if he is still outplaying Garret McIntyre. BT may very well retire after this year anyway, so either way the front office will be hoping one can step up and be solid when surrounded by playmakers. Cutting those two contracts frees up a fair amount of space. With part of that, you give Revis a contract extension and do as best we can in negotiations with him. Also give LaRon Landry a contract extension for 2-3 more years if he isn't injured by the deadline. Taking a lower end FA safety or resigning Bell for another year or 2 gives us a cheap option for some reliability in a position again surrounded by playmakers. Dump Po'uha, and let him come back on a reduced contract if he wants. That pretty much shores up the defense aside from depth. Offense rebuilding is a bit tougher, since it seems we are stuck with Holmes another year because of his guaranteed contract. We have what seem to be the answer for the rest of the depth chart at WR in Stephen Hill and Jeremy Kerley, each a year more experienced. You have to use your second round pick on the best Offensive Guard available (Again, possibly a high pick the way this season is going). Then take FA cash that we saved from Pace and Scott's contract, and sign the best O-Guard we can get our hands on. Re-signing Keller is the right thing to do, he want's to be a Jet which will lower his salary demands and he will continue that effort he puts into every play. He's one of the few things that makes this offense run more smoothly on pretty much every play he is in on. 3rd round you go RB, because you can't sit around hoping for Greene to step up, and I don't know a difference-maker-back that is going to be a FA and would come to the Jets on what we could afford to pay him. The rest of the draft you go a little combo of BPA adding depth. Then you starters look like: RDE Quinton Coples, NT Kenrick Ellis, LDE Muhammad Wilkerson, ROLB 1st Round Pick, WLB DeMario Davis, MLB David Harris, LOLB Garret McIntyre, CB1 Darrelle Revis, CB2 Antonio Cromartie, Slot CB Kyle Wilson, FS LaRon Landry, SS FA pickup. QB Mark Sanchez, LT D'Brickashaw Ferguson, LG 2nd Round Pick, C Nick Mangold, RG FA Pickup, RT Austin Howard, WR1 Santonio Holmes, WR2 Stephen Hill, Slot WR Jeremy Kerley, TE Dustin Keller, FB John Conner, RB.... 3rd Round Pick or Shonn Greene or Bilal Powell or Joe McKnight, Tim Tebow,or even maybe a FA pickup, depending on how much cap space we have. Whomever runs the best in preseason.
Obviously this is just what I see based on the season so far. Only time will tell if all these changes are necessary.
There are 3 basic outcomes that can happen after the described offseason and ensuing season. 1. Mark Sanchez still sucks, Rex continues to not have good D and control of team. Result: Rex fired, Mark Released, New HC and new QB 2. Mark Sanchez still sucks, but Rex has good D again and maintains team spirit. Result: Mark Sanchez released, Rex resigned, new QB 3. Rex Ryan puts together good D, maintains team spirit, and Mark Sanchez flourishes with solid team. Result: Jets fans happy.
