Yeah because they already lost the division  Still think the first 2 games at the lower seed's place is stupid. I made similar argument regarding the 2-3-2 idea in the NBA thread. That infield fly, rule botched up. Throwing trash on the field dangerous if you are throwing bottles and such, but I mean I don't think the intent of any ATL fan was to harm anybody. It was weird seeing the Cardinals not celebrate on the field but run off the field.Supposedly they were chanting/singing INFIELD FLY while celebrating. This from Twitter of course when anyone can say anything.
what the fuck is the point of a protest if they are always denied, especially under the guise that it was a judgement call? every call an umpire makes is a judgement call, doesn't mean their judgement is so egregious that it is a deviation of the actual rule.
And the Reds end up winning by a nice margin despite losing their pitcher during the second plate appearance by the Giants. An RBI single by Phillips followed by a wild pitch and a passed ball make it 5-1 Cincinnati. edit: not so fast, they're having trouble closing out the Giants after all the innings of the Giants not being able to score. Chapman struggling.
Worse ones include- blind ump in Twins-Yankess playoff game a few years ago calling a ball foul even though it was fair by at least ten feet Twerp catching ball in Orioles-Yankess playoff game Ump calling a batter out after thinking DeWayne Wise caught a ball; ball actually landed a good five feet away from Wise The call the other night was crappy for the fact the ump raised his hand so damn late. Otherwise, it really was not all that ridiculous.
That was the Joe Mauer double that landed and bounced into the crowd. Clearly in bounds, clearly crooked call (and i'm a yankee fan) or the ump was retarded, and that kind of missed call is sadly classified as only one way or the other above. crooked or retarded. which is worse? again, i profess i am a yankee fan of the highest order, but a tiny bit of justice followed that call, Mauer got a single at least, he thoroughly deserved that double, it was embarrassing for me to see a call of such atrocity benefit my team, but hey, in the end, i'll always take 'em. The announcers were like ummmm, errrr, uhhhh, well, it looks fair but ummmm, errrrrr, uhhhhh, and then cut to quick promotion of new network sitcom coming next week!!
yep, Maier and Mauer calls were two of the worst ever. The Yankees celebrated Maier and gave him free tickets, too. I saw the Wise one too. That was mind-boggling. The moronic ump didn't even check to see if he had the ball!!!!
not sure why Lincecum was only sent to the bullpen in the 5th he wasn't going to be starting anyway, so he should've been there from the beginning, IMO
TNT shows a graphic about teams that came back from 0-2 down in the LDS. Two things: 1)This game is still in the 7th inning. 2)This situation has never happened before. It's not just that SF would be down 0-2, it's that they would have no home games left in the series.
Homer Bailey to pitch for the Reds Tuesday. He doesn't pitch as well at home as he does on the road. Might be interesting. Go Redlegs.
major screwup by Carlos Beltran results in the first run today Jordan Zimmermann singled to right with Desmond on second. The stop sign was up because Beltran has a good arm, but he ran through it, and Beltran didn't throw. He fielded the ball and just kept jogging in towards the infield. Finally he threw after a few seconds and naturally it was too late. There's no reason to hold onto the ball. Either throw home or at least throw to the infield.
i picked them to go to the series in the other thread before the playoffs started, they have been a good road team all year.
