Per Cimini on Twitter FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- Jets owner Woody Johnson would rather win the presidential election than see his football team have a winning season. "I think you always have to put country first," Johnson said Monday while discussing the Mitt Romney campaign on Bloomberg TV. Johnson is one of the chief fundraisers for the Romney campaign. During the interview, he was asked about the Jets' dreadful performance Sunday against the 49ers. Johnson blasted his team and also admitted the pressure is mounting on QB Mark Sanchez. "The coaches and I aren't happy by what happened yesterday and the players aren't either," he said. "We're still leading the AFC East, but that performance was absolutely unacceptable." The show hosts, who probably couldn't tell a defensive secondary from a presidential primary, pressed Johnson on the QB issue. "No, this doesn't mean Tim Tebow is starting next week, but it's a question that will be asked more frequently if this progresses because this is unacceptable playing," Johnson said, adding, "We let our fans down." "There's going to be more pressure (on Sanchez), but this quarterback can get the job done, he really can," he continued. "He had a bad day. The team had a bad day. It wasn't all Mark Sanchez."
The future of the United States of America is way more important than a kids game grown men get paid millions to play.
Can Cimini tell the difference between a defensive secondary from a Pres. Primary? My thoughts? Doubtful. God, I hate Cimini and his useless NY Jets posts. He's such a douche.
That's not the point. First of all he could have said we all should be concerned about the future of the country, but meanwhile I own and AM DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE FOR the New York Jets, so it's not really a fair question to compare the two. Instead he sounds like a rich billionaire prick who can't chew gum and walk at the same time. Either that or he somehow thinks by spending tons of money on the Romney campaign, and hanging out with those people, he's serving his country. Well he's entitled to his opinions and all that, but meanwhile the Jets are in big trouble, in large measure because he's been crap as an owner, so don't you think we can have some good old conservative values expressed here, like personal responsibility for one? He makes me sick.
Why do you guys think he traded for Tebow? When Sanchez ultimately fails and Tebow comes in and wins 2 SB, Woody has groomed the next face of the GOP. NY will then become a red state.
Don't you get it? The reason why Woody wanted to bring in Tebow was simple. Sell PSL's . Problem is, that obviously isn't working with an underperforming Jets team. Look at the stadium from last weekend - a sea of 'Niners red. It's a joke. I honestly thought it could work with Tebow. Now? Not so much. One of my biggest potential fears as a Jets fan is if Woody decides to take it under his own power if Mark fails to perform well in the next few games and issue his demand to Ryan and Mike T that Tebow be placed under center permanently and Sanchez be benched. That would ultimately be the biggest downfall for them.
You guys must be kidding agreeing with Woody. First of all, it's not like this election is going to drastically change the future of America (personally I think both candidates are buffoons anyway, but I think that of most politicians). Secondly, Woody Johnson is running a business, which should always be a priority. And especially when you know you have a lot of fans and many of them aren't happy at the moment, this might not be the best thing to say. Lastly, and worst of all, this question would have been extremely easy to skirt around without making a total jackass of yourself.
That's like saying all players would but the welfare of their children ahead of football Just a stupid artcle
Of course he wants Romney to win. Romney is all about helping out the wealthy. Doesn't give a shit about the middle class.
Only Cimini...does he even realize that he is the laughing stock of his own network as well as anyone else who fancies themselves a sports journalist?
Exactly. that and not diss somewhere in the area of half your fanbase (and again even GOP'ers should expect Woody to not imply he's too busy to focus on running the business he owns because of the Romney campaign - as if he's some huge help over there, what a clown). Woody wanted to preach on his soapbox and ended up looking like an idiot. I really hate that guy.
Not defending Cimini however he IS a reporter & his JOB is to report the news & surely Woody qualifies & since that is Woody's direct quote because Manish also tweeted it Cimini was only doing what he gets paid for doing. Now if U cannot handle that Woody is saying FU to us fans then I guess U better find another venue to leave the real world then football
Looks like Woody's gonna be disappointed across the board. Maybe next year he'll focus on fixing the JETS. What's funny is one of his nephews did a documentary on the Johnson billionaires and how out of touch with reality them and their super rich friends are. No wonder he is clueless he inherited all of his success. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HmlX3fLQrEc
