You're delusional...I would feel better if they IRed on Monday when they knew he was lost for the season and brought in somebody, anybody who would help the team. If they couldn't get a CB then get a RB or WR to help the offense as you sure as shit will need to score more points then you did when Revis was on the field. Do something.
This is silly. I mean it's not a big deal, but it's just silly. Even if we somehow made the Superbowl, Revis is almost definitely not playing. Why not open up that roster spot for someone who has a legitimate chance of helping the team this year? I don't get it.
This doesn't make any sense. Just IR him and IF you have another injury you want to put on temp IR, keep THAT guy on the roster. You get an extra player for this coming game. Must be some motivational tactic, because risk/reward seems illogical.
I think it's really just a shot in the dark that maybe somehow the injury isn't as bad as the MRI shows when they cut him open to fix it. They can only see so much until they actually cut him open. It's probably just going to end up with him going on IR after the surgery and then we'll fill that 53rd roster spot with someone that never see's the active roster.
Because you only get ONE temp IR slot to use and you have to designate it when you place the player on IR. If they were to use that on Revis now and the doctors confirm there's no way he'll be ready by the superbowl you've wasted your temp ir slot. By waiting a week or two they know for sure.
Because you think all the reasons they have done nothing have been discussed in detail in this thread. Nothing has been discussed because nobody knows why they are doing nothing. A pretty good bet though would be that it's not because they want him ready for the superbowl..that one you can rule out.
They've done nothing? I could have sworn they brought in Carr for a workout and signed a RB, so McKnight could be a CB depth player. Guess I'm just crazy. OMG the FO knows nothing about football! They did nothing! You act like there's a bazillion options out there that will make this team drastically better. Anybody available are PS players, UDFAs, busts and old washed up guys.
Here's what I think is going to happen barring more injuries or a complete disaster at the CB position between now and the Revis surgery. 1) Revis has surgery, doctors say no way he's available for the superbowl. 2) The Jets put Revis on season ending IR. 3) The Jets sign Carr. By waiting to put Revis on IR until after surgery, the Jets save there non-season ending IR slot in case someone else has a 6-8 week injury at some point. It cost them a roster spot for a few weeks and some "get up to speed" time for Carr.
Without putting him on IR you have wasted a roster spot for weeks for what is likely to be no reason. Not a doctor, so not sure what they will know after surgery they can't find out after an MRI, but I know they have to wait weeks before surgery for the swelling to go down. I guess I'm just a bird in the hand type.
Yea we're probably wasting a roster spot for a few weeks. That spot will also probably be insignificant in the grand scheme of things. No one really complained about Landolt wasting a roster spot for the first 3 weeks of the season. Because the spot doesn't really matter. The 46 man roster is usually the same every week with a tweak of a spot or two based on the opponent.
you couldn't derive that yourself from Rex's statement that he hoped that Revis would be back for the Super Bowl? what do you think Rex meant when he said that other than the possibility that Revis may heal quickly and be available for the Super Bowl?
As much as I can't stand him Cimini probably has the best explanation..the trouble is how many games do you give away just to keep spirits up? And I just noticed, just what you two said ^. "Rex's transparent motivational ploy By Rich Cimini | ESPNNewYork.com RECOMMEND1TWEET0COMMENTS10EMAILPRINT There is one reason, and one reason only, why Rex Ryan decided to tell the world Friday that he will wait until Darrelle Revis' knee surgery is performed before placing him on season-ending injured reserve: It's a message to his team, his way of saying he still believes the Jets are good enough to play into February. Clever move by Ryan. It's not quite a Super Bowl guarantee (that was the old Rex), but he's letting everyone know he's thinking about the Super Bowl. "Let's see what happens when he goes through surgery, because if there's that 0.0002 percent chance that he can play in the Super Bowl, why would take the option away from him?" Ryan said. "Let's just put it this way: If you're fortunate enough to make it to that big game, and he's fortunate enough to be healthy, I know our fans would want him playing just like I would want him playing." No doctor in his right mind would clear Revis to play in the Super Bowl after reconstructive surgery to repair a torn ACL in his left knee. First of all, he's not having the surgery for at least another two weeks, so we're already into early October. That would leave only four months until the Super Bowl. The standard recover time for an ACL is six to nine months. Marc Rubman, an orthopedic surgeron from Atlantic Sports Health in New Jersey, told me this week that Revis should be running at the six-month mark -- in April. Two days before facing one of the best teams in the league, Ryan wasn't about to provide a "Revis goes on IR" headline. His team is in a vulnerable state, having lost its best player for the season. He doesn't want a woe-is-me attitude to permeate his locker room, so he decided to keep hope alive. Now we'll see if the Jets buy what he's selling."
It's stupid anyway you look at it. He torn his freaking ACL. He will be lucky to be able to be freaking running this winter, let alone getting ready to ever play in a game. You don't have to wait until after surgery to know- it ain't happening in the 2012 season.. the surgery itself will set him back. He's a great corner but he can't miraculously heal himself. It's stupid because its not insignificant to think about the roster spot. Those roster spots are incredibly important on a week to week basis. To just leave one around for wishful thinking is dumb. Guys that can play are being sacrificed on wishful thinking for a guy who cannot and won't be for awhile. It's also stupid not only because its dumb to think Revis will actually ever be ready this year, but its stupid because Rex Ryan has to "joke" about wanting to have him available for the Super Bowl. STFU and coach this team, Rex. The boasting was "cute" when you first took over but now you just look like a jackass... Oh you don't like being called clowns, Rex? Here's an idea.. don't make a clown statement like that! MOVE ON - Put him on the regular IR because he's done for the year. Save the temporary one for a player with a temporary injury. Use Revis' spot for a guy who can play. Save the Super Bowl talk for the week of it, if you ever get there.
I dont find any of this a big deal. Wwhat I do find a bit dusturbing is when I read posts from people who think that our FO knows what theyre doing. Tanny and co are a bunch of fucking clowns! To think theres never been clown-filled organizations is just nuts. We got clowns people
