    See the Donte Stallworth trade.

No way the Pats get a #1 pick for Branch now.

If the Patriots believe that Branch is too valuable to trade to a division rival, they would have given him his money.

I totally disagree with this. Belichick would trade a disgruntled receiver to one of the worst teams in the league for a # 1 pick in a NY minute, division rival or not. Their thinking is they can kick our ass no matter which side Branch is on. Now, imagine draft day when they have the #4 pick. Think about it, we're exactly what they would be looking for in a trade. Someone dumb enough to give up a #1, and bad enough that that pick would be a good one. That would be sweet enough for them to overlook the divsion aspect.

No way he is worth any more than a 3rd.

really good point. i'll buy that.

thus, we shouldn't trade for him because we have capable WR's and we'll probably add another one next year.

    cheers

I have a question for one of the draft nerds: I'm thinking that the receiver crop in the 2007 draft is better than 2006, but still not deep. True?

If the draft won't be deep, and knowing that the 2007 free agent receiver list isn't all that inspiring, seems to me that Deion Branch may just be in an enviable position here. Might just be holding out wasn't the worst of ideas - financially speaking.

On the other hand, for a guy who had a reputation as a "good guy," Branch is getting just trashed these days because of an incompetent agent who has played this whole thing dreadfully wrong.

Meh, maybe they're slightly better. I mentioned Calvin Johnson in another thread as he is clearly the best receiver at the moment. Others will say Gin and I'd agree he is more talented, but he runs sloppy routes and drops too many passes. Other than that I like Jeff Samardzija from ND and Dwayne Jarrett. In my opinion the 07' receivers will be better.

C.Johnson is the kid im looking at. Unfortunately theres a chance hell be the number 1, and I dont think I could watch us be that bad this year.

I do too. But what the hell's the deal with that kid? He signs a $7 million baseball deal the year before he's slated to be a number one NFL pick. It'll be interesting to see what happens with him.

I heard they were asking for 2 1st round picks. No way you give that up for Deion Branch. The Pats are trying to stick it to Branch so he gets into camp
