Stop being a homer. There of course is nothing wrong with versatility...But look at the big picture. The Jets swear by Shonn Greene, only to see him lose carries week after week, and continue to prove he is exactly what we thought he was. They Jets draft Ganaway then cut him...They then claim another guy off a PS to replace McKnight, and move McKnight mid season over to defense in the middle of a season as a response to needing CB depth?? Come on. I'm not opposed to McKnight on D. I am opposed to the timing of this move and the need at the position depth wise we now have for this season. Bottom Line: Tanny guaretees WFH and is lucky to get rid of him. So far lucky that an UDFA waiver pickup is panning out. Tanny gives Holmes way more than he deserves and refuses to bring back BE at vet minimum Tanny does nothing to address the RB situation on a team that claims to be ground and pound Tanny does nothing to address the current WR situation besides guarenteeing Chaz Schilens 500k before he can prove he stay healthy Tanny puts the Jets in a position to start a raw rookie WR who has trouble catching footballs Given the Jets need for blocking help and being in a ground and pound offense, Tanny not only doesn't sign a blocking TE, he picks up a guy off waivers who is the exact opposite of a blocking TE. If you think Tanny isnt on the hot seat you are absolutely nuts. And if this move doesn't pan out, make no mistake we will have a new GM next offseason. If McKnight comes out and gets burned make no mistake people will care more. Especially with a Chris Carr, who is a serviceable CB sitting out there.
So what??? And what if the Jets play a zone D and Andre Johnson rolls into his zone?? The Jets aren't always going to play man to man. An NFL receiver is an NFL receiver #1 or #5. If it doesn't work out big deal? We'll see how you feel about that if McKnight gets burnt on a play for a TD that costs this team a W. For the record, the Jets want to move McKnight to CB? FINE. But not in the middle of a season!!! Give the guy an offseason to learn the position at this level.
Wait a minute... Him "practicing at CB" is the same as Cromartie practicing at WR. Yeah did McKnight take a few reps in TC? Sure. Did he play a handful of plays at CB last year, mostly in one game? Sure. But he was still a RB and taking 99% snaps at RB. If this is the case, why didn't the Jets just play him at CB during the preseason? Wait! They didnt at all. He got RB reps constantly in games. Don't try to pass this off as a planned transition. It wasn't. It's a desperation move by a desperate team with a bean counting idiot as a GM. BTW, speaking of Cromartie, how many reps at WR has he taken so far whether in season or preseason? Want to know why the answer is zero? Because he's a CB not a WR.
Wanna bet? BTW while we're at it let's move Kyle to RB. Maybe Greene to OLB? And McKnight was drafted in the 4th round. That's not a throw away pick, FWIW.
The team, mainly Rex will try and spin this....but this was a hey Joe either you are going to play CB or you're released demotion. They drafted him to be the third down back and three years in he hasnt gotten on the field and theyre making a last ditch effort to find use out of the player. They traded up for McKnight too. Just another case that the personnel people here dont have a clue.
precisely. And under normal circumstances I would be fine with this. But after all that has led up this with the moves or non moves in the offseason, I'm personally furious. You simply don't do this mid season after your All-World CB goes down and you are looking for depth. Meanwhile, our RB's aren't exactly lighting the world on fire. BC if this fails, we are in big trouble, whether people want to see that or not.
Yes. Saying you think McKnight could be an amazing DB and actually transitioning him into the position are 2 entirely different things. This WAS NOT happening before Revis went down. The Jets WERE NOT transitioning McKnight to DB. The Jets gave McKnight nothing but RB reps in preseason. Again, I'm not disagreeing with the idea in principle. I'm simply irate over the combination of the timing, situation, and depth at RB and potentially now CB as a result. Powell, jumped JM on the depth chart. Ok fine. However, you are now left with a bumbling one speed runner who has proven he has zero ability to move laterally at RB, an unproven #2 behind him, and a practice squad pickup of 1 day ago at RB. At CB you are left with Cromartie, Kyle Wilson, Erik Lankster, Joe Mcknight, and some other scrub. Tell me. How are you possibly ok with this picture? After Cro (and even Cro) there are major concerns here. And this is the Jets answer. Give me a break.
:rofl2::rofl2::rofl2::rofl2: Responses like this and the ones above KILL me. Holy shit, dude, take a friggin chill pill. It's not the end of the world. Cromartie gets burned for TDs and he always plays corner. Not everybody is a Revis.
Not saying everybody is Revis. Expecting to replace Revis is assinine. But the fact that this is the Jets response, given the situation at both RB and CB is absolute horseshit. Think I'm overreacting? Check back in a few weeks. Hope I am, but I fear I am not. You can be in denial, but show me 1 thing I've said that isn't true? The head in the sand regarding this teams FO will only take you so far.
lmao. I've got nothing. Even more of a reason why McKnight at this position given the #2 and onward is a potentially frightening proposition which it seems many here don't see for what it is. Again, hope I'm wrong.
You realize Belichick does shit like this often right? Do you freak out and talk about how ridiculous a move it is when he takes a former QB converted to WR and plays him at DB? Let's see what Rex can do. I think he's pretty well earned his stripes as a DC in this league. It's not like McKnight is going to be facing Andre Johnson in 2 weeks. He's likely going to be the dime back at best.
Revis was a luxury. You are worried about Mcknight getting burned for a game winning TD, but most #1 CBs in the NFL get burned for TDs every week, which determine games. Our CB depth is pretty good, this only helps! In certain situations, like obvious passing downs, this could come in handy. We have LBs that stuggle in coverage. Harris got burned for a TD last week. Maybe Mcknight goes in for Harris or Pace, simply to cover the extra man. More schemes, more possibilities. Do you really think this is a Tanny or Woody move? This is Rex Ryan, a defensive guru, recognizing abilities in players. I trust him.
I think it's interesting and I'm all for it. He's not getting snaps at RB so lets switch him. Who knows if he plays this week or even this season, but if he has no hope at RB then might as well move him sooner rather than later.
This post is steaming hot garbage, sprayed by a skunk, then set on fire. Let's go point-by-point. Wayne Hunter 2011 wasn't nearly has bad as Wayne Hunter 2012. How were we supposed to know that going in? And he didn't just guarantee him a year, it was part of the original deal. So the options were to not cut him and have his deal be guaranteed, or cut him, with no real clue how to replace him. There were no viable starting right tackles on the FA wire this offseason. Bringing Edwards back at the vet minimum MIGHT have been an option... a year later. He got in legal trouble and the Jets didn't want the headache. Whatever, they made their choice. Braylon Edwards has 5 catches for 43 yards this season. What situation? We have an entrenched starter, backed up by a 2011 4th round pick, backed up by a HB we signed probably because we decided he'll be a better back than McKnight. McKnight's KR prowess is enough to justify his 4th round draft position. ... here you bitch about not signing receivers AND bitch about the receiver we signed. We addressed the current WR situation by drafting one in the second round. Obviously not a team strength, but it wasn't crazy to assume some degree of improvement from Kerley and some degree of impact from Hill. Schilens is 4th. He starts because he earned it. He has an elite ceiling, he's only on the field about half the time. Cumberland is a decent enough blocker, and what is with people's obsession with blocking TEs? Don't you guys notice how often we bring in a 6th lineman? That's your blocking TE right there. --- Our offense isn't great right now, obviously, but I don't see any kind of massive golden opportunity missed, some kind of obvious bonehead Tanny move that has us where we are. Some depth limitations is the price of having luxuries like two top 20 CBs, one of whom being the best defensive player in football, the best center in the game, etc.
Ok, my turn. Are you off your rocker? Wayne Hunter was ranked among the worst o-lineman in football last year. And this isn't just my opinion, there are numbers to back this up. He was consistently beat off the line, and was an COMPLETE liability. He showed absolutely nothing to warrant guaranteed money let along a roster spot. The point is the Jets shouldn't have brought him back TO BEGIN with. And yes, there were viable options at tackle, and affordable ones in the offseason. What are you talking about? The fact that you are apparently telling me that Wayne Hunter wasn't that bad in 2011 and there were no reasonable upgrades available, should have stopped me from even taking the rest of your post seriously. It WAS an option heading into this year. Let him walk in 2011? Sure. Have no depth at WR and don't bring him back when he has proven chemistry with our QB? Really?? Look beyond the stats. The Seahawks have very defined roles out there. Braylon would have done our WR group WONDERS this year for little to no money. If you are going to guarentee Chaz "Made of Glass Schilens" for 500k why not spend another 200k on a guy you know has produced here? DWI? Really? That's the reason? Keep looking. Entrenched starter? Once again. WHAT? Bilal is slowly cutting into said starters reps and there has been much talk that Shonn's job is in jeapordy. Bilal is cutting into his work because a) Shonn sucks and b) Bilal is the next best option. Bilal may turn out to be good but he has proven nothing. After Bilal? Grimes? Cool story bro. Ground and pound. Yeah. And let's just assume he is entrenched as starter with the Jets. That's even more an indictment on the FO. He has no business holding that title. Try to keep up. We addressed it over the long term? Maybe. Reality is, which has been shown, that Hill needs time to develop. He's extremely raw and needs to find consistency in the route tree and with his hands. He is NOW our #2 receiver. So yes, I take issue with the current situation at WR. Hill should not be playing every down given his experience in college, in his first year in the NFL. There were and ARE STILL options available to relieve this pressure. He earned what??? If by earned you mean dropping everything thrown his way in preseason and in weeks 2 and 3 then yes he earned it. He was drafted in the second round and the Jets have no other options. He does have a potentially elite ceiling and I love the pick, but that will not come for another 2 years at least. The Jets yet again, are putting a key player for the future in a position to fail. The BIG knock on Cumberland since the day he walked in the door was that he is useless as a blocker. For a team that preaches ground and pound they don't seem to put too much value in blockers. There were MANY blocking TE options available on waivers. Cumberland, is not one of them. Does he have some receiving ability? Sure. But has he shown it on a consistent basis? No. If not yet, then when? --- If you don't see the complete whiff signings or lack of signings the Jets have made at positions of need, then sir I suggest you look a little closer. You either don't want to see it, or just don't play close enough attention. I've got to point out that I am generally a very optimistic person when it comes to the Jets. I am FAR from a darksider. But after seeing how the offseason transpired, how the offense has looked, and how the Jets have handled this situation, I'm very very concerned. Again, I hope I'm wrong. I hope McKnight goes on to play solidly in his role. I hope the RB situation works itself out. I hope Hill takes big strides quickly and his hands improve. I hope all this happens, but based on what I've seen I can't feel confident at the present moment.
^^Hill is a better option at WR right now than Edwards would have been period. The only indictment on the F.O. was not getting a target for Sanchez to grow with earlier.... They thought Edwards could be that guy, but the knock on him is that hes not all that committed to football. A developing 2nd round pick, is not going to have that issue, and his elite ceiling is worth the growing pains.
