Actually, for the Jets it might be the best year for him to be injured. Revi$ will have a hard time justifying his demand for $15+ million a year and a long term contract coming off a season ending knee injury.
i was saying to someone yesterday that this is the exact reason Revis wanted a new deal. Now hes gonna come in next yr as a lame duck. If it takes him a fwe weeks or months to get into a rhythm, it will impact his next deal greatly.
And he's going to be pretty pissed off about it, no doubt. Hopefully no so much that he wants out but it would surprise me. This could be the worst season for him to be out if that was the last game he plays in a Jets jersey.
The only thing about that though is then he is most likely going to play out the remainder of his contract and become a UFA.
From a contract standpoint it was the absolute WORST year possible for him to get hurt. Since hes under contract for next year which he will use as his "prove it" year, then is a fully unrestricted free agent that has a clause in his contract stating that we cannot franchise tag him. The best year would of been next year, since no team is going to give a monster contract to a guy who was on IR with a freakish injury.
yeah Jets will be in an interesting spot. They either extend his deal next year without seeing him play or let him play out the season and he hits the open market as an unrestricted FA. Revis will have a choice too, he can't hold out b/c it add would add more years on his contract and he is coming off ACL injury. He could try to get less money upfront as a trade off for long-term security, or he can decided to play out the year, hope he comes back fully healthy and hits the open market looking for the highest bidder.
I can't see him not playing out the whole year and trying to land the bigger deal. Think about it. He either signs up front for less money or plays out the entire season and becomes a UFA. Certainly he could recover poorly from this injury and not be the Revis of old in which case he would obviously not be paid like it come the end of the year or he could show that he indeed is still a top-flight corner and get the big pay day. The only thing that would be a catastrophe for him is if he had another serious injury.
Ya. ha it was a joke about the debacle that was the non-int. Did not intend for the discussion to turn into cap talk lol
