of course greene isn't terrible but he's one of the worst starting RB's in the NFL and there are backups better then him. a big time gain for him is 10-12 yards. i'm still surprised the jets did not address the RB position in the off-season. looks like they might have gotten away with not addressing RT. i just don't get how we can be a ground and pound team yet we don't have a #1 back.
Eh, still probably rare... But I would be for it if it was a reasonable deal. There's no question that Greene leaves a TON to be desired. His vision is pretty bad and one of the most underrated qualities in an RB. What makes AP, Forte, McCoy, Foste,r ect so great is that they see the holes and go to it. Yes, they are extremely physically gifted, but its terrible how many yards Greene leaves on the field by making the wrong cut or missing a hole and just running into a lineman's back.
I wouldn't be shocked if another running back were brought in at some point this season. If the backs currently on the roster haven't impressed, and Greene is banged up as usual, I could see something happening. Not for a huge name, but if a team is 1-6 and going nowhere, and they have a veteran back they want to move, it could happen. I'm a little surprised the Jets haven't added a 4th running back off the waiver wire. Still could happen, picking someone off a practice squad.
I think we make a move by week 6, give new player 2 weeks to learn the system and finish strong the second half of the season we added Holmes and Edwards in mid-season trades when the passing game was shot, remember Tanny left us some cap room for shit like this
I was watching the Bengals-Ravens game and just watching Ray Rice and Benjarvus Green-Ellis pissed me off our styles are similar to both teams and you see what having a shifty RB can do for you, I wanna see some more of Powell
Send greene to the vikings for Gerhardt. really want to be aggressive? Package up greene and holmes for harvin and Gerhardt.
When we drafted Greene I went and looked at video of him and the only big runs he had were gaping holes, so I was confused about all the praise for him. He's definitely lived down to my first impression.
What's with all this hate for Greene? He put 94 yds and 1 TD running behind two supbar run blocking guards vs a very good Bills DL (especially on the inside). Also our jumbo TE package is now run with a guy who's not considered a great run blocker (J. Smith) and we don't really have a blocking TE. I wouldn't consider it that bad! Of course it was easier to run behind Faneca, Moore in his prime and Woody!
greene is just fine for us...he doesn't get big chunks nor he has the breakaway speed but he punishes the defense even in those 1-2 yds pickups in the beginning then those turn into 4-5 yds then 8-10yds gain for him n other rbs on the team. don't need another new player on the team
Greene hasn't been impressive since Thomas Jones was here. He's pretty average. To me he's a #2 RB, not a #1. He's a second half guy who's going to run all over a tired defense due to his size and style. I would like to see Powell get some more touches to see what he can do. I guess we'll see as time goes on.
Greene is a brusier, who appears to be running in mud or cement half the time.I was calling for Powell all during the game. Yet,I have to be honest here, I was totally surprised when I heard that he put up 92 yards on a team determined to stop the run. So I have to give the man his due when it is deserved, and Sunday it was deserved.. Yet, I have been very surprised by the play of Powell during the preseason, in pass protection/blitz pick up and catching the ball out of the backfield as well as his abililty to to make people miss when running the ball... One thing you always notice about Greene he seem to always go down at the point of contact. Many times you have to feel there are more yards there, if he would just stay on his feet or go around blockers instead of right into them. I do think there is a place for Greene on the Jets , I would just like to see a bit more of Powell and even McKnight as the season progresses
Greene just needs to bust a few big ones, and the stats will start to show it. That's the one thing holding him back. He's fine in the regular running game. It's a contract year for him, I think that's enough motivation. I have faith in Greene and Sanchez as well.
I'm not really sure what anyone expects Greene to do when he's running into a brick wall against a D that's stacking the box with 8 men. He's more then serviceable for the offense Sparano is trying to run.
