*crowd chants* Tebow... Tebow the Merciful! Just poking fun. But don't take what I said out of context. I said this situation reminds me of the movie, not that he IS Maximus. This is what gets guys like you all spun up. You focus on a comment made in jest and go crazy with it. Then you drive yourself into a frenzy, pacing back-and-forth in your house yelling at the computer screen. Next thing you know, this gets added to your list of frustrations for ALL Tebow fans. We now ALL think he is Maximus from Gladiator. Just calm down man.
That's one thing that gets missed, I think, is the sense of humor about it. From very early on, back to his Florida days, Tebow became the source of this massive in-joke, where we're all kind of in on the idea that he's awesome. Kind of like Chuck Norris -- most people don't really think he's that great, but the idea of him is that great, like a shared meme. The picture of the car window with "It's not gay if it's with Tebow!" was intentionally ironic and tongue-in-cheek. It's like he's a 250 pound version Rudy who made good. The real haters just can't seem to be light-hearted about Tebow's merits. It's actually quite fun if you can relax and quit worrying about him getting more exalted status that he's due -- you can't hide in the NFL. If he can't do it, he can't do it. It will work itself out all in good time.
Hilarious how the 2 plays you link are running plays. No one argues that Tebow can't run the ball hell I wish he would play HB for us. Some of us want him to do QB things like throwing the ball.
Tebow doesn't really care in what capacity he gets to continue playing in the NFL. Just so long as he can continue using the NFL to push his 2000 year old mythology on people.
Oh please. Give it a rest. Be honest with us, don't hide your personal beliefs. It's plain for everyone to see that Tebow is a self-proclaimed christian soldier. From painting bible verses on his face, to giving easter sermons to 20k people, to publicly supporting anti choice, anti equality action groups, to holding prayer circles before, during, and after the game, to thanking jesus christ publicly every chance he gets. When he finally gets booted out of football, he will either become a priest, or a politician in the bible belt. As much as the media likes to sell his persona to gullible catholics, Timmah! is fully on board. To both further his personal beliefs and make a nice profit in the process. IE, running shirtless in the rain for the camera, posing as jesus on the cross for the camera. He is well aware of his status and he fully exploits it. He is no better than one of those mega church TV evangelists who end up going to jail for tax fraud. If Jim Jones was a football player he would have been Tim Tebow.
You have no idea what you're talking about. He hasn't tried to push anything thing on anyone. He is honest with his answers about what he believes, give this junk a rest.
Guys, I encourage all of you to leave this post alone. This is what they want, to constantly incite argument. I know you might be thinking "But those things are not true, I've got to defend Tebow." But you don't. This is the internet, where somebody posts something wrong every second. Just leave it alone, and let it show for what it is.
And the reason behind why you're against Tebow has just revealed itself... and like most of your fellow haters... it has nothing to do with football... thanks.
That's right, religion has nothing to do with football, so Tebow should leave it in the church and not bring it on to the field.
Why do you give two shits about what Tebow does or doesn't believe. He has every freakin right to display his faith if he wants to. I do believe this is America... at least for now. It doesn't effect his play (if anything his faith gives him resolve and belief in himself to accomplish his late game heroics). I've worked with him personally at UF and have talked to him on a number of occasions and faith and religion has not been brought up once. Just because a man says "god bless" and kneels in prayer after a score doesn't mean shit. I'm agnostic and have NO problem with how he conducts himself on or off the field and wish more athletes would conduct themselves in a similar fashion. The fact that you demonize his behavior says FAR more about you as a person than Tebow.
Hey TB, not a Tebow guy myself, but where are you coming from with that "selling his persona to 'gullible catholics'" angle let alone Tebow 'becoming a priest'? A priest?!! Tebow's a Southern Baptist, and Southern fundamentalist types are not exactly bosom-buddies when it comes to Roman Catholics which makes me wonder why you singled out that particular denomination for derision in the first place? Or, is that whole 'Christian' thing in general (Presbyterians, Methodists, Episcopalians, Catholics, Baptists etc.) just one big blur to you? No flame, just wondering ....
Before Tebow joined the Jets I was able to quietly enjoy the game without all of the religious insanity. I want to watch football, not a 1-800-club infomercial. I don't really care what other people believe in. I don't pay attention to other peoples beliefs. Aside from Tebow I don't know what gods other players worship. Because they don't go around peddling their religion at every opportunity. Football is my sanctuary, free from politics and religion. Tebow is defiling my sanctuary.
