Clyde Gates will be our unquestioned slot received by week 6. He is going to flourish in NY and add an element of speed that hasn't been seen at the position on this team since we drafted Santana Moss.

    You heard it here first.

except, this time he'll be right. dolphins are going to regret cutting him.

and they don't exactly have a great track record with slot recievers ahem Wes Welker ahem

Sounds good to me. I'd like to root for a Clyde. Not enough people named Clyde in the world if you ask me.

So this scenario has Kerley starting opposite Holmes or sitting on the bench?

    Bench, rotating in when needed.

    Okay?

A guy with 2 career catches for 19 yards will be our slot receiver in a month and a half?

I would put money on the fact that he has more kick/punt returns than catches.

Wasn't there a Crystall Ball part of the forum for threads like this one?

I predict that there will be a crystal ball part of the forum by week 3!

this seems to me more a homer thread than a crystal ball thread. the fact is the Jets have big issues at wideout.

I have my doubts about this guy. Slot guys don't have to be the fastest guys on the field. They need to be shifty, nimble, run good routes and always be where the QB expects them to be. His game is all speed and not much else at this point.

The Jets can throw alot of speed at the WR position out there now. It will be interesting to see what they do offensively to take advantage of it. Shorter crossing patterns with a chance for YAC?? Deep balls stretching the field vertically?? Heavy play action?? All take time to develop so the pass protection needs to hold up.

that's why its a "prediction" and not a current state of reality....

way to follow what's going on though.

You forgot to mention willing to get absolutely leveled by the likes of Landry and Bell.

I dunno I kinda like Kerley in the slot. He showed improvement as the season went on and most memorably seemed like the only player trying to win week 17 against Miami. I'm hoping he'll take another step forward this year. I remember him having some pretty clutch 3rd down receptions that left me with a good impression.

That said, I of course hope Gates succeeds but I'm just not sure at this point to what extent he will if at all.

Welker was a Saban present to his buddy Billy Boy months before he bolted back to college.

That is a bold prediction I must say. The Dolphins who have some of the worst WRs in the league, cut Gates. I find it hard to see him breaking out as a star this year. The guy is a speedster, but it's going to take him time if he pans out.

The guy had plenty of opportunities in Miami, and didn't make any plays.
