Too bad they are not really going "against" each other, as one is a highly praised starter, and Tebow is well... uh... under-appreciated. Good to see fellow Gators sharing the spotlight. Cam Newton learned 'a lot' from Tim Tebow at Florida By Gregg Rosenthal Around The League editor Published: Aug. 24, 2012 at 06:33 p.m. Updated: Aug. 25, 2012 at 02:05 a.m. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000054090/article/cam-newton-learned-a-lot-from-tim-tebow-at-florida It's been more than four years since Cam Newton and Tim Tebow were teammates at the University of Florida. They haven't kept in contact since, but Newton says he still looks back fondly on their time together. "There's a lot that I've learned from Tim and his professionalism," Newton said. "You know how his approach is to this game, and that's one thing everybody has to respect about him -- and I certainly do." The two quarterbacks will renew acquaintances Sunday night when the Carolina Panthers and the New York Jets face off in a preseason game. Newton downplayed the meeting with Tebow. But the Panthers haven't downplayed the importance of playing the third preseason game on national television. "I feel as if every stage is big for us this year," Newton said. "We have a point to prove, and we have to have that chip on our shoulder each and every game." Newton will have to take on the Jets without wide receiver Steve Smith (foot) to help him, and linebacker Jon Beason will be missing from the Panthers' defense. Despite that, it's a safe bet Newton will wind up with better stats facing the Jets' starters than Tebow will going against the Panthers' backups. The former teammates now are at different stages of their careers. Newton has a chance to be one of the game's best, starting now. Tebow is just fighting for snaps.
Not that I think Tebow is going to light it up when he comes in, but it's far from a 'safe bet' that Newton is going to have anything resembling impressive stats against the Jets starting defense. Especially without Smith in the game.
Cam is hit or miss, but he's young. I think he will have a great career. I don't think the Jets D is really that good to stop him and his weapons. Steve Smith, Louis Murphy, DeAngelo Williams, Jonathan Stewart, Greg Olsen.
Steve Smith isn't playing. You did read that article you posted, right? We're not talking about Cam's career, we're taking about the third preseason game in his second year, against one of the best defenses in the league. You also don't seem to know that much about the Jets defense even though they did well to stifle your Giants offense last week. Carolina minus Steve Smith does not measure up to the Giants with all of their weapons on O.
You're right, Smith isn't playing. Jets D stifled the Giants? You realize the score was 26-3, right? lol. Take away the pick 6 (From Sanchez, not the worst QB of all-time Tebow) and still 20-3. Carolina minus Steve Smith > Jets Offense
I guess I should have been more specific and said 'starting defense', since what backups versus backups do is mainly negligible for the most part. But I figured you understood that Cam would be facing the Jets starting defense, since that's the part of the article we're talking about currently. Take away the pick 6 from Sanchez and the Giants racked up a grand total of two field goals against the Jets starting defense. One of those FGs was made possible because a Special Teams penalty turned a three-and-out into a first and 10. This is the defense that Cam will be facing, not a bunch of scrub backups hoping to be playing football at all in September. I had gathered at first that you had some sort of ability to debate football, but so far it appears that I was wrong, as your final pathetic jab proves. We're not comparing the Jets offense to the Panthers offense.
I don't see Cam having a breakout performance against the Jets D either, it's not like the D has not seen a strong mobile QB in practice. I am more interested in seeing how our D line does against a strong RB, Giants certainly didn't have that in the game against the Jets.
Cam really slowed down in the passing game after the first few games of last season. The Jets D shouldn't have much problem slowing down the Carolina passing game. We'll see.
He did. I know it's not fair to him to say "after he did great, he didn't do as great, then he did great a little more, then not so great." But his yardage totals were really affected by a few huge games. He threw for 400 yards in his first two games! That's 800 of the 4,000 he had right there. And it is a statistical fact that a quarterback will accumulate more yards when playing from behind. The Panthers defense was so horrible, the offense was always in "Let's not get blown out mode" or "catch up" mode -- you tend to fling it more. He needs to show he can put together drives in close games, games where his team is ahead or within a score, and make good decisions without throwing interceptions. Which seems likely -- because it doesn't look like he has any weaknesses.
Pretty much says it all, what a tool. Also you do realize everything in your OP about him learning from Tebow wasnt about playing on the field but more about how he carries himself...which weve only heard about 100000 times...I dont think theres anyone who doesnt believe in Tebow the person by now.
Cam and Tebow will be going head to head in some BIG games in their respective careers, looks to be sooner than later.
What does that mean? If you are, in some way, talking about tommorow....how is a preseason game even close to a big game....with all capital letters might I add? Being serious, what the hell could you possibly be talking about.
There's a whole lot of folks waiting to do the happy dance the first time Tebow shows a chink in his armor.
Like what? He drinks a beer? Goes on a date? There are people waiting for something like that?? Ridiculous.
A date? No. Beer? You bet. You might not be, but you're naive if you don't think that's the case. Tebow being found to have engaged in premarital sex would spark a firestorm not too far from what happened to Tiger. Look at all the comments on the GQ piece.
Most likely.... I really couldnt care less about any of the crap. Tiger should have the same rights to an affair the rest of america does. Not that its something I agree with but I do agree with freedom and minding my own buisness. Tebow should be able to do whatever he wants the same as the rest of us, I dont follow any of that crap cause it has nothing to do with me.
