that trade is hideous for the Jets. 1 premium pick and 1 important pick (2nd and 4th) plus two players, at least 1 of which would be a significant contributor (eric smith and bilal powell) for a guy who is certainly elite now, but in two years could very easily have a precipitous fall of a cliff ala Shaun Alexander. It's just not something that can be done IMO. If you want to give a 3rd, and one of the players, then maybe but that is just too much for us to give. it immediately becomes super bowl or bust 2 year window.

Correct me if I am wrong... but doesn't MJD have bone on bone in his knee?

This is where the Jets have been living since 2008.

Really they need to do an effective rebuild at this point but in the absence of a commitment to do that and the skills to follow through there's no reason they shouldn't go back to "Super Bowl or Bust!"

At least Sanchez is not a raw rookie this time around and they're not going to lose Favre at the end of the season this time around. Not to mention Schotty is in St Louis so if the offense ever gets off the ground there is a chance that it is coherent for a change.

I wouldn't hate having him depending on what we had to give up but like others have said I don't see him as a massive improvement over Greene.

He had surgery going into 2011. Then he carried the ball 343 times for 1606 yards. I think he resolved the question of whether or not he could perform post-surgically very well there. Also, the injury was addressed in the off-season. He missed 2 games in 2010.

Would only free up about a million.

We would need the Jags to take Bart Scott as part of the deal for MJD to work it under the cap.

MJD is the perfect figleaf for the Jets to get Tim Tebow out of town on. It may take a year or more for them to find another one. It took Peyton Manning for the Broncos to wriggle off the hook.

I'm a big Run MJD fan, but for the JETS to Trade a 2nd, 4th, Powell (essentially another 4th) and a player would a BAD move, considering he's got alot of mileage, knee concerns and most of all is holding out because he wants a FAT new contract.

He's a great player, but I think he's nearing the end of the road..... not to mention it would only mask the real problems the JETS have.

It would be like an ugly chick getting a boob job........ ooh look, boobs. Doesn't change the fact you're a butterface.

today you're right. come draft time everybody will be pissed we are missing 2 more draft picks, and MJD will be underperforming his outlandish contract in year 2. Why do you think his agents said you need to hold out right now? Because this is his best chance to get paid serious bucks, and not next year when he actually has leverage over the Jags.

No, it really can't be. The Jets team on offense is pretty much the same team as last year minus LT & Plaxico, and we went 8-8. That's not an indication of a rebuilding team. Only a complete negative nancy darksider fan / pats troll (same thing) would even consider saying some unsubstantiated nonsense like that. The facts say that we are not. End of story.

jacksonville is gonna soften on their stance about not trading him

and even so, we're not gonna be a realistic possibility. unless someone wants to explain how we can fit him into the cap.

We need a beast on the O line; not the backfield - have to agree. Just like a QB of any caliber can not perform without protection, a good to gerat running back can't be a factor without good offensive line play; Barry Sanders nothwithstanding.

^ Is Jacksonvilles offensive line known for being good? I thought MJD was basically carrying the Jags offense with virtually no passing game. This guy is a baller where ever he lines up. I would trade Holmes in a second for MJD. There must be a way to work out the guaranteed money. Didn't we pay Denver some of Timmys guaranteed money?

^ I dunno about this, but he would be ridiculous in flat screen passes etc., quick routes that don't take time to develop.

Per Yahoo Sports, the #Jets have placed a call to Jacksonville to inquire about the possibility of trading for Maurice Jones-Drew. #nyj

    hwaaaaaaat?
The thought of MJD on this team is....epic. But thats just a knee jerk response. With no o-line support, MJD will be lucky to get half the yards he gets in Jax.

I think MJD would be great wherever he went - he's that good. I don't know how Tanny would plan on paying him but apparently he has something in mind.
