I suppose he'll do since we need a fat blob in the middle of the D-Line to eat up blockers. Could be worse...

But he started all 19 games last year for Carolina! He would only help us!

Shopping at Macy's basement for a DT

DT should have been addressed when free agency started, not two weeks before the season started. Latest laugher is Brentson Buckner. He was one of the Carolina Panthers in the steroid scandal of a few years ago and was actually suspended for four games by the NFL in 2002 for abusing the steroid policy. Last year his knees were so bad most thought he would retire after he was cut by the Panthers.

The Falcons had interest in him this month too. We're not the only team inquiring about him.

Every team looks to shore up holes via training camp cuts & late FA signings. The Falcons just signed Grady Jackson. Where's the crime? You do realize that your hero Herm went this route twice while he was here, right? Do Tom Barndt and Chester McGlockton ring a bell? They're just looking to see if they can get lucky with someone on the cheap, given that he'll probably sign for the minimum. If Buckner doesn't pan out, what does it cost the team? You're really trying too hard.

    I wonder.

Guys like this make me wonder. Osteoporisis is a frequent problem among older players. Just the pain from working out seems to keep them from keeping their abilities. Can you get a huge "tough guy" into a low chlorine pool for wind sprints and step drills? It really takes a different mentality to keep performing as you age. Explosive ability is another problem. At a younger age it seems to come from the heart. But, older players seem to lose that over time. It has to be practiced more. Alas, age is a barrier that large Defensive Linemen seem to have the hardest problems with. So, I have doubts about whether he is going to be a real contributor in the future. Most of the NFL teams will be dropping some pretty good players soon. I hope that the CS is planning on taking advantage of the discards. Good teams have a habit of collecting good players at one position and then having to drop a good player just because of his position depth. (ie Jets Quarterbacks) The Jets seem to have some positions that need shoring up. And, although it could create a simple problem of some new players not knowing the systems; overall, it would make the team healthier.

why not, grady is no longer out there. we need all the help we can get in the middle and he would be a good stopgap player for a year.

Look... We have a very young team, on offense and defense. Buckner is a natural born leader, and is about as smart a D lineman you're going to find. He'd come in as a role player, and nothing more, but would be a great addition to our team. Sign him to a 2 year deal pronto.
