Jets look like a strong defensive team on paper again, but I fear we may be getting blown out quite a few times this year because of our lack of offensive weapons. If we are able to keep long drives with a running game we will be in the picture in alot of games. But our O-Line has not changed much at all on the right side. The fear of protecting our QB's in the pocket is also a concern...Teams will double Santonio, which means we are asking too much of our rookie Hill here. 1st time in 4 years I am not feeling confident about our overall success...This isn't me judging based on 1 pre-season game, just evaluating our options on offense. It does not look pretty.
I'm always afraid to get blown out, our feelings never change the outcome of the game. The only year I've ever not been afraid was 2010 because that was probably the best team we've had in a couple years. Don't worry, just preseason jitters. Can't wait!!!
The defense has more talent than last year and the offense can't really have a worse performance than last year. Weird thing to be concerned about in August before we have seen how Sparano will run the offense in the regular season.
Has the starting offensive line even practiced that much together in TC ? Seems like most days we keep hearing about one guy or another taking snaps at C, T, or G, right or left side, trying to figure out who should start where. I think the time will come where decisions will be finalized, and the actual starting unit can get used to working together in this new scheme and they'll be fine.
Legit concern but I still expect the OL to play better and the run game to be closer to 2010 than 2011. Defense will keep us in most games like u said.
Except for the Brady no-huddles the Jets D was pretty solid (not dominant) when opponents were forced to drive the length of the field. Only way I see the Jets getting consistently blown out is if the offense keeps turning it over ... and gives up a lot of points (which admittedly did happen last season). The OL was not upgraded talent-wise, especially RT. However, Vlad appears to be ready as solid backup @ Guard & Slauson is taking some snaps @ Center. Mulligan is gone. Blocking scheme of the OL has changed from zone blocking to man blocking. There's a new OC who is more likely to offer struggling tackles help. Sanchez is one year older. Also, this time the Jets have a real backup to bring in if Sanchez gets shell-shocked again. This season's Jets O won't keep up with the Pats/Saints/etc. but there's still reason to hope they've improved enough not to blow games as badly as last season. Wait a couple more preseason games to see how the offense handles new schemes, new blocking assignments, new OC, new philosophy, etc.
I'm with you, but I did expect Rex to show the team, fans and NY media that last years shit slide was long gone.
Would you rather be ahead by 2 or down by 2 with 1 minute left against NE? Trust the defense to keep Brady out of FG range, or trust Mark/Tebow to get in close?
Let's wait until Saturday and another 3 series from the firsts and then you can really start to worry or not......C'MON MAN!
I dont see us being blown out by anyone, I see us losing probably around 6 to 7 games, but there will be a lot of close wins and losses with few thrashings handed out and few taken (with probably a single spectacular fail half way through the season).
There's usually that one game where nothing goes well (45-3 game, Eagles Game). Those piled up because we were shooting ourselves in the foot. If we lessen the TOs, we'll be in just about every game.
Good question & everyone here can probably argue this for an entire thread & make good points both ways. For now, I prefer: down by 2 & trusting Sanchez/Tebow to make something happen. If the Pats are in a rushing down, I feel good about the Jets run D stopping them. If the Pats are in a passing down, I've got some confidence the Jets pass D will hold them down. However, last season Brady wouldn't allow substitutes between these defensive packages. He would go no-huddle and seize whatever weakness the Jets defense presented him & march down the field. Luckily, there are very few qb in the league that can run the no-huddle @ Brady's level. === If the following can happen: * DeMario and/or Maybin can play the run good enough to not be liabilities. * Coples & Wilkins can play all 3-downs for a couple drives. I'd go w/ the scenario of prefer D to stop Brady when up by 2.
