Why would we not run our wildcat just because Marvin Lewis ask us? I know it preseason but we want to work on it.
Rex said that may have been a misunderstanding. They had no intention of running a wildcat anyway. First preseason game was supposed to be vanilla practice. From Cimini... "Ryan clarified a conversation he had last Thursday with Bengals coach Marvin Lewis, who called the Jets' coach wondering if he was planning to use the Wildcat in Friday night's game -- at least that's the version Ryan told after the game. Somehow, it got reported that Ryan agreed not to run it. Not true, he said, adding that it never was in the Jets' game plan for the game."
You obviously don't read much or very well. Everywhere you look there's articles that detail Rex saying they have no intention of using wildcat in preseason.
Now that makes sense. Thank u....Hell if a coach called me and ask me not to run something I would hang up on him.
Sorry I just heard about on NFL network. Plus sorry I have a life I just don't sit on my phone all day looking for Jets news.
:rofl2: Ouch. I think I just got hit by crossfire while sitting on my computer looking for Jets news.
Wildcat or not, Rex Ryan has to wake up and realize that you need to have weapons on the outside for opposing teams to respect the JETS running game and not stack the box. RT is still a question and as good as Stephen Hill can probably be, there is no real weapon at WR outside from Holmes. Looking at free agency right now, Lee Evans is available and would be another good deep threat option on the outside.
Why does Rex feel the need to share this stuff with the media. Whether he meant to or not, it makes Lewis look bad for asking the Jets not to use the wild cat. Truth is most teams don't want to gameplan for the first 2 preseason games, but Rex makes it sound like teams are afraid of the wild cat because of this. You think he's show a little more respect towards the coach who built the great Ravens defense he inherited a couple of years later.
You read into things way too much. Who cares if you think it makes Lewis look bad. Its what happened so he made himself look bad.
Maybe the reason Rex didn't run the WC is because the first string was done after one qtr. By the time Tebow got into the game, all the wildcat-ers were on the bench. 2nd/3rd stringers probably haven't even practiced the WC yet.
there seems to be some sort of gentlemans agreement regarding preseason games and the coaches normally talk to each other about what they are trying to accomplish and what they are working on.also how long the starters paly and such things. i recall last year jim harbaugh pissing off sean payton by not talking to him before a or preseason game so sean blitz the hell out of them. i think the jets were involved in a little tiff once with the eagles over play time for the starters in a preseason game. its a courtesy thing that goes on.nothing more
I think this is my one big problem with Rex and the culture he has brought in here. We share too damn much with the media and there are other teams with worse chemistry , but you don't hear about it because teams are keeping that stuff in house.
Im glad Marvin shot it down, lets not run a single wildcat play until we have to. Hell if we open strong week 1, save it for week 2. The Dolphins in 08 didnt bring it out until week 3... Will the Jets bring it out week 1? who knows.
There are good reasons why Marvin might not want him to run it -- it's preseason, they've got some guys they want to evaluate, and it's a glorified scrimmage. He wants to see how his guys can do against a conventional attack based on the limited training some of them have had. The Wildcat (or whatever they end up calling it with Tebow, because it will be full-featured) is going to work like gangbusters in the regular season. So you know it would destory in preseason. There's no point in running down the field on a bunch of 5th stringers that are fighting to make the roster.
Might explain your severe lack of friends. Coaches have a fraternity, so to speak and they take care of each other when they can.
Not really. Most fans can figure out that we aren't on the Bengals schedule, and that they have other things to do in TC than waste their time preparing for a WC package from us that they won't see this year unless it's in the playoffs.
