greene is the definition of average.

mcknight is the definition of sloppy and inconsistent

powell should be good for what his role is. but that trio is about as ho-hum as it gets. i think sparano and having a run first identity will certainly help alot... and anythign they can get out of a tebow package here in there will as well. but overall, no way id call it a "strength"

Hey Edge, fine thank you, hope you're doing ok too

Thats the problem I have with Greene, we all remember what he used to do, and yes he can lay the wood, but that was with a really dominant O line. Since then he's done squat.
As our #1 RB I think we are in for a long season, and hopefully McKnight and Powell can improve and contribute.

you said the worst was the best... Powell didnt show anything last night... no significant yards rushing or catches. Alot of those pass rushes he missed his assignment on blocking

This isnt good at all, I didnt think this RB group can "ground and pound" and last night it just felt like more of the same. Ill reserve judgement until the regular season, by red lights should be going off now.

And ontop of that, Cedric Benson is going to the Packers.....

It's to late, they can try but it looks like Benson will be a Packer.

We could try Ryan Grant who was solid until he got hurt in 2010. But did rush 554 yards on 134 carries for an average of 4.2 yds per carry last season. Hes a veteran and his presence would be good, because Shonne Greene isnt no veteran, we need some sort of older figure to guide em and give advice.

I agree and Greene always had that. Thomas Jones and LT and he had decent seasons.

We should be on the phone with the Saints asking about Chris Ivory... He would be a very nice fit for probably just a late round pick and is buried in a backfield that is twice as talented as ours.

lets be honest, tebow is the jets best RB. if you lined him up behind sanchez and handed it off he would be productive.

CBS' Len Pasquarelli thinks the Jets are concerned about the depth at RB behind Shonn Greene. He notes that Bilal Powell and Joe McKnight both struggle in pass protection. That may very well be the case, but I liked what I saw out of Powell last night in pass protection. On Mark Sanchez’s first series, Bilal Powell did a nice job picking up a blitz. He stoned Thomas Howard cold right in the hole, but Ray Maualuga came in right behind Howard and picked up the sack. Well designed blitz. The TV commentator put the fault for that play on Powell, but he can't block them both. Then later, Powell was one-on-one on DE Jamaal Anderson. Jamaal Anderson goes 6'6, 280. Powell goes 5'10, 204. That’s a matchup that should favor the Bengals every time, but Powell did a nice job on Anderson, allowing Sanchez to step up and run for a first down. I also thought McKnight did some nice things as well, showing nice elusiveness and pass catching skills.

Can Shonn Greene have a big season for the Jets? Can he be what Matt Forte is for the Bears? We will need 250 carries for 1200 yards and 50 catches out of the backfield!
If Greene can give the Jets those numbers their offense would be decent enough to get them to the playoffs. I think Greene has it in him. He's gotten better receiving out of the backfield every year. He had 1 fumble last season I think. I think Greene could be the horse the Jets are gonna ride. It makes sense. If Greene can ever do it this would be the year.

Our backs are fine. Your only as good as your line though and that is bad news.

I'd rather have a running back who isn't dependent on his O line like Thomas Jones was here. The best runningbacks make their own plays.

Are you joking? We had one of the best lines in the league the years Thomas jones was here. He is the perfect example of how an average back can excel when he has a great line in front of him.

I think the lack of a pass catching rb is a major question mark with the jets. I don't think Greene is more than a 30 catch guy. Maybe, hopefully McKnight can fill that role. It is nice to have a guy that can do both.

Yea we had the best O line in football that year and ran more times than any other team in football. Fucking crazy right I'd rather have a runningback who doesn't need the best O line in football to be a bit above average.

I'm a fan of both Green and McKnight (never seen Powell) but I'm a fan of them because of their potential and their skill set, not their production. I will have a hard time believing that RB is a strength of the Jets before any of them have produced anything in this league.

They all have the talent, but so do a lot of other people. They need to produce in order for the position to be a strength.
