Just curious, do you work in the sports industry in any capacity, or did you just so happen to luck into hanging out with those guys that one time?
It's good to see that Coples got a couple sacks today. I know it's with a weaker o line but it's progress.
Against Ten and FSU he played outside, cue up the games. Took advantage of that scrub Zebrie Sanders, really ate him up. The inside vs outside is meaningless without a snap breakdown. Dude saw plenty of action outside in 10.
I cued it up...and his sack against FSU came from the inside. Looks to me like he took the large majority of his snaps there as well. Same for the Tenn game.
The company I founded (rather not say which one for obvious reasons) sells a ton of wellness products to athletes. Some were early investors- as a result I have several pro athlete friends. So there are some fun side benefits if you like sports. I really like when I get to hang with guys who LOVE to talk sports...many do not want to 'talk shop' --One of the greatest was Donovan McNabb, had dinner with him at McNabb's steakhouse in Phoenix, the guy LOVES sports and that is all we talked about for 4+ hours- SUPER nice guy and he gave me the entire scoop on the Eagles back then. When people diss him, I am like...you have no idea how cool he is...
Did you find professional athletes can compare to die hard fans when it comes to current knowledge of other sports? I've always wondered if pro- football/basketball/baseball players are so focused on their careers that they can only put in the time to be casual fans of other sports. Also, when your wellness products at first made me think of steroids or something else sinister. Guess it's the times we're living in. btw, I've always like McNabb & think he's very under rated career. Felt that he never had decent support around him except for that one year with TO. Now he's just hurting his legacy by hanging around & struggling so bad.
Being a sports nut I have found the following to be true when 'talking' sports with pro athletes. Either they love sports like many of us or they simply look at it as making a living and do not want to talk 'shop' about other sports, with what I find to be one exception. Seems most love golf. Especially retired guys. Most golfers do not want to talk golf at all! lol, one of my best friends is a top 100 PGA player, made like 15mill in his career. When a buddy of ours once asked if we should take the kids to play putt putt, he said, "sure and right after that we can take them to the office to make copies and answer emails" lol- "got it!" Rare is a guy like Donavon who will talk football with non players and not look at you like you have no clue. And no steroids here, all our products are anti-doping certified!
That's what they all say. Anyway, very interesting story. I can definitely understand a pro athlete not wanting to talk sports with a non-player, though; everyone probably wants to talk sports with them and I bet it eventually gets annoying. Any other stories?
there were several media reports post draft that said the jets had targeted the seahawks pick (OLB - bruce irvin) to take in the second round. that xtra second round pick would have been acquired by trading back with the steelers. after the hawks pick nullified the proposed trade and the jets went the coples route as he slipped a bit past where he was projected by many.
Ya know this is something I just can't get. I see all these athletes on the golf course & then wonder if they were golf fans prior to entering their sport or if it's just an acquired taste professional athletes pick up from their surroundings. Gave golf a try multiple times and kept finding it really boring/slow. Won't deny that it requires high skill though.
I think high level competitors need to compete, no matter how old. Golf satisfies that. They almost always have some decent cash on the games as well. Again, I think the need to create pressure one way or the other is just innate to great competitors.
Win Maybe you can get one of those guys to speak with the Jets and convince the jets FO to cut Coples now so we save ourselves the embarrassment of playing him?
coples is the one guy who has really stood out to me tonight. he has been involved in quite a few plays and has played more than most players.
i will agree with ellis too. not as active but i have seen him involved. they were both playing pretty well in the first quarter from what i remember. coples at least stood out in the 2nd against 2nd teamers. but i could swear i saw him playing well earlier in the game too.
I feel the first 15 seconds of this is rather appropriate for this thread
