I hate to piss on the optimism, but I don't think that it will be a peaceful coexistence. I hope it will be like Leak and Tebow, but the media and fans were not into it as much as they are now. Tebow was relatively unknown outside of Florida when he was a college freshman. I was in grad school at the time and I hadn't heard of him until the season started. But now... holy shit man. The whole world is watching and Tebow has a legion of supporters and detractors. Sanchez has a good enough following that will support him as well. It's going to be a mess. My 2 cents...
It's going to be fine if the Jets are winning. People forget, winning is everything. It took a 2 season dumpster fire in Denver to get Tebow in. People act like some sort of "circus" just rose up out of nowhere, but that team lost its ass off. And anytime a team is losing a lot, all sorts of things start up (like Sanchez/Holmes las year). So yes, if the Jets start losing a lot of games, hold onto your hats. But if they win, even moderately and comfortably above .500, Sanchez is firmly entrenched as the starter.
Good thing Sanchez isn't black or this would have gotten infinitely more hectic. Relatively unknown? No dude he was known. Halfway through the season all the retards came out to play. I went to my fair share of home games there when I attended UF. When they booed Chris I was about to punch some of those losers out.
I believe that would make for more material for the media to somehow spin in some kind of way and that would make things a lot worse than it already is. You never know, but I wouldn't put it past them.
I was following as well, and I think part of the problem is that Leak was so emotionally reserved, he seemed like he didn't have much heart. He flat out couldn't execute the run plays in Meyer's offense (they didn't even try , Leak would wuss out), and then Tebow was like Rocky coming in off the bench. That team felt flat during the regular season, like it was searching for an identity. The championship was a surprise that year. Leak was a good quarterback and a good guy, don't get me wrong. I loved him.
Like I said, this was localized to Florida and mostly UF. Yes he was known, but it is nothing like the worldwide attention he gets from soccer moms and people who care nothing about football like he does today.
Very mature. *Insert sarcasm* At least post why you disagree with the content of my post, or say nothing at all. You should have liked it, considering it was not a pro-Tebow post.
He's saying the media would be playing the "race" card if Sanchez was black. I don't know but it is possible.
If I played my whole life as a QB and broke all types of records in college, won a Heisman, National Championships, and beat the Steelers in a playoff game my first year starting as an NFL QB, I'd be insulted by people saying I should be a TE or FB because I am a muscular guy. Let's see... he has tons of success as a QB, yet none as a TE or FB. Yeah, let's make him a FB/TE. Just sayin...
If I played QB my entire life, never learned the proper foot work, throwing motion, how to take a snap under center, to read a defense then yes I might think about moving to a new position. Tebow was taken advantage of by coaches that only wanted him to help his team. They taught HIM NOTHING about what it takes to be an NFL QB. He is so far behind that catching up is most likely impossible.
There's a reason why spread option offenses have never caught on in the NFL: the players are too good and the DCs too smart. Furthermore, aside from early on in 2008, the wildcat has largely been ineffective in the NFL except as an occasional trick play like a reverse or other trick play. Well, there's a chance that I could win the Powerball lottery, too, but I'm NOT gonna plan on funding my retirement on that. QFT. I think the word is "exploited". It's the seemy underside of college football. At least Tebow has made some $$$ and hopefully he's invested it wisely. I seriously doubt he gets a second big pro contract.
