One thing you can take from that article is how much we took Damian Woody for granted in the 3 years he was here. WFH had 11 penalties last year alone & Woody had 14 in his previous three years combined.
What's that old saying? Hope for the best, sell your late season tickets early. He sounds like he can help out, either as our starter or at least someone who can spell Hunter if need be.
Im usually very optimistic with these buy low with high potential, value trades. But this one seems to me like we just smoked a 7th rounder. It's obv not high risk at all, but this guy hasnt been on the field for 2 years, there is no way he plays 16 games this season, so count on your man Wayne Hunter to be there at RT
Did you even look at his injury history ? Last year his problems werent major It was a week 1 concussion (completely irrelevant to the knee issues) that had him miss a chunk of the season Then he came back a bit, and had some lower back pain. The only major concern I have was the knee swelling in june, but the MRI came back promising. I wouldnt expect him to play 16 games, but at the same time I dont think its that much of a stretch if he does
Its funny how they say everyone is a winner, when the guy replacing Otah for Carolina had one of the worst grades @ RT in the league. Obviously the fact that he was an udfa who significantly outperformed our Wayne Hunter meant that they got decent value for what he cost, but Otah would be such a tremendous upgrade for them still so the whole move is just bizzare. Im not worried about Carolina tho so eff em, works for us
He didn't give a very compelling argument as to why this trade is good for Carolina. He just said "sometimes cutting ties is a good thing" ... Not sure if it is a win-win; it definitely won't be if Otah is healthy for most of the year.
If he does stay healthy and have a good year do we know what the conditional pick would wind up being? If he completely busts and Carolina gets a pick for a useless player I suppose that would be a win for them but if the guy is able to stay on the field for us and Carolina winds up having to start a crappy RT all season in exchange for a low-mid round pick in the next draft it's hard to see how that's a win for them.
I bet you Carolina would of gotten a better compensatory draft pick for letting him go in free agency, then the pick they get from us. Thats assuming he got through the season without catastrophic injury which I think he will
Doesn't it seem like it shouldn't be so difficult to get a healthy guy that is better than Hunter on this team?
I read that it was a conditional 7th round pick, meaning we either give them a 7th round pick (if he plays a few games) or we give them nothing. I could be wrong, though.
try calling scott poaoli, the GM of KC, and ask him how he did it without giving up a draft choice, and his guy is not injured.hmy:
S.I's take on our Right Tackle position battle: 3. Vlad Ducasse vs. Wayne Hunter vs. Jeff Otah (Jets RT) More on this battle here. None of the choices are all that terrific, so it may come down to which guy is the least of three evils. An oft-injured Otah, if he can stay on the field, should have an edge over an overmatched Hunter and the disappointing Ducasse. If Otah can’t stay healthy, Hunter may be back in by default. The Jets need better play at RT, especially if southpaw Tim Tebow sees extended time. Projected winner: Otah Importance: 8
