I like Rex. He's got a sense of humor and he knows football. I know a lot of my fellow Pats fans hate him for bragging, but it seems pretty good-natured and innocuous to me.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yyqhpuphIXE The guy obviously has a sense of humor and doesn't take everything too seriously.
I'm getting there, I was born in the 70s so what player/coach that has come along since then has been better than rex? he instantly transformed us into SB contenders and it wasn't a one year thing like w/ parcells.
I wouldn't necessarily call lap band surgery cheating. It generally is not given unless patients have not shown weight loss success via exercise and diets. For some people, it's something that needs to be done. Rex Ryan has to be accountable for what he eats and this should help him long-term. I do agree that natural weight-loss is the best though Colleen. I've personally lost 87 pounds since December through proper nutrition and P90X. That said, there are some people who cannot achieve the same results. Good for Rex.
You're overstating the case, I'm afraid. He took a nine win team and won nine games with it, with two relative gimmes at the end. Then opportunistically went on a nice run. Don't get me wrong, I'm as starved for success as any fan of this team, and plenty happy with the results, but that's no instant transformation into SB contenders.
I see what you are saying and agree to some extent. But as a competitive NFL football coach... I think a better story would have been if he had worked his ass off (literally) and not taken the easy way out. And yes... there are people who cannot achieve the same results. They are called 'lazy people.' As someone who has lost all that weight recently... you know this! And great job btw!! I know I sound bitchy... pet peeve I guess.
a 9 win team w/ a future HOF QB, w no Tom Brady to deal w/ and one of the easiest scheds we have EVER had. The Miami Dolphins won 11 games w/ a similar sched. We hadn't been to postseason since 2006, we hadn't won a postseason game since 2004, we hadn't been to a title game since 1998 and he got us to w/in a game of the SB 2 of his first 3 years making us legit SB contenders.
He serves as good motivation to any wing eating, beer driking football fan. And I don't think it's any stretch to call him the best thing to happen to this franchise in my 25 years of being a Jet fan (call it about 17 or 18 of comprehensive years).
