Heh. Ferocity. I merely asked the newbie poster there to explain why he thought the manner in which Greene was used last year established that Schotty used him in some inappropriate manner. He failed. Instead of explaining what we might have missed, you engage in ad hominem. You lose again.
I explained why the quote about him playing more when the Jets were trailing was an inappropriate metric, since that included carries in the first half. In actuality the Jets, as you would expect, used him less in the later parts of games that they were losing. I have never said and never thought that Schotty was an above average OC. No need for hyperbole. Just keep it on the merits, and be substantive.
You do realize that there's a real likelihood that Sparano may turn out to be a worse OC than Schottenheimer? Calling plays for a few games in part of one season five years ago is NOT quite the same as designing an offense. The Jets' failed attempt to hire Todd Haley(Haley) suggested that Sparano needed help with the passing offense. I guess that went by the boards when the Jets traded for Jesus Tebow.
The JETS were TERRIBLE all last year in the 1rst and 2nd quarter. There were 13 (almost half ) total first or second quarters that we failed to score any points. 4 more that we only managed a field goal. To me, this is a strong argument against Shotty not being able to adjust and or game plan accordingly. Teams with adequate offenses should be able to put together scoring drives after having all week and then half time to draw something up to counter whatever it is the defense is going to throw at you. Execution is one thing,. and there were plenty of times we did not execute well last year. But a good coach / OC has to be able to mask some inadequacies and or get the defense off guard, because no team / player / offense is perfect. It seemed like most games we won last year we won in spite of the game plan, not because if it. 9/11 - DAL - 0 , 3 9/18 - JAGS - 9, 14 ( TD in first followed by INT and Punt, 3 and out to start the 2nd half ) 9/25 - OAK - 7, 0 10/2 - BAL - 7, 0 10/9 - NE - 0, 7 10/17 - MIA - 7,3 10/23 - SD - 3, 7 11/6 - BUF - 0, 17 ( started 3rd with a punt and a field goal after starting in BUF territory twice @ 40 and 45 ) 11/13 - NE - 0,0 11/17 - DEN - 0, 7 11/27 - BUF - 0, 7 12/4 - WSH - 7, 3 12/11 - KC - 7, 7 12/18 - PHI - 0, 0 12/24 - NYG - 7, 0 1/1 - MIA 7, 0
^ we had no deep threat, thus the defense played our running game. Schottys running offense was shit bc 9x out 10 we ran it in between tackles. Our exotic runs on the outside were garbage with no brad smith. There were so many things missing from our offense, no adjustments made and we turned the ball over a lot. Sparano is going to be good for this team. Tebow is going to be good for this team. This kid from Georgia Tech is going to be good for this team. Play defense, run the football and burn the opposing defense with play-action. Keep the clock moving, protect the football and play dominating football. Can't wait!
He is just not that good and when you team him up with our just not that good QB it explains why our offense was 25th in the league or in other words just not that good.
Wrong, I asked you to quit with the veiled prognosticating that we will see that Sanchez and company suck with or without Schottenheimer. You don't know either way. Giving one huge example that showed why the coach never seemed to get it together is not skirting around the issue. Also, I have never engaged in anything with you, and this is probably my 5th post since the draft. Good job picking winners and losers though, law degree boy.
Schottenheimer went from QB coach to OC with no merit. The Chargers had to draft Rivers while they had Brees because Schottenheimer was so superb/average/competent at developing who would become the best passer in the league. Every OC has to design their first playbook at some point. What I'm worried about is the cellar franchise that the Jets've been defecating on for a decade plus has fans (that can't stop chirping until they have officially lost 8 games) who have offseason hunches.
Aww, I seem to have offended one of our drive by posters. How will I ever get over it? Since you don't spend much time here, you may not have noticed I have never said the O is destined to fail without Schotty. That is a red herring. As for degrees, when you eventually get that grammar school graduation certificate, don't go ahead with your plan to frame it. It may be all you will ever get of that sort, but it's just not a good idea.
And here we see how lack of education may not encourage illogical thinking, but it does not help thwart it, either. So, Schotty in the poster's view sucked. And Schotty went from Qb coach to OC "without merit". Meanwhile Sparano has never been an OC, either, and went from being a failed HC (meaning "lack of merit") to being the new OC. Therefore, this means we should not be concerned about Sparano's prospects as the new OC. Because "Every OC has to design their first playbook at some point." Huh?
The only thing I like about Sparano is that it is Rex's guy. Rex was able to pick a lot of his coaches when he came and now he has finally gotten rid of the ones he didn't bring here. This coaching staff is the one Rex wants so we will see where it gets him.
I thought the Jets wanted Todd Haley to run the passing game, but Haley turned them down. Unless you have some info that it wasn't really Rex who wanted Todd, I don't see how you can make the bolded statement.
Wasn't Sparano brought in to be OC and they just wanted Haley as an addition to the offensive staff for passing plays. I thought the Jets didn't want Haley as an OC just as an assistant to and thats why he wasn't interested in the job.
You know exactly what he meant in that he had a say in all the coaches hired. Yes we all know we may have made a play at Haley, may have. That doesn't change the presumption that Rex personally was able to decide yes or no on the coaches in the prime positions. Shotty we all know was grandfathered in for some reason or another ( Last name Shotenheimer maybe? ) but he was never Rex's guy, and did not run the system Rex would have preferred. OT @BigBlocker: I've been reading this board for quite some time and just recently started posting, Mostly for fear of people like you. You're one of the most argumentative posters on the board. Just because someone is new to the board, or doesn't have a post count of 10 billion, doesn't make their opinion any less valid then yours. That's all these are, opinions. There's absolutely no reason to go around berating people's intelligence because you disagree with what they're saying. /rant
This is accurate AFAIK. They never even met with Haley until Sparano was in the building. It was Haley and Sporano that first brought up working together again. Whether or not this was before or after Jets perceived interest I can't say without more digging into old articles ( even then who knows ). Sources: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...haley-have-talked-about-joining-forces-again/ http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/01/11/todd-haley-could-join-jets-staff/ http://aol.sportingnews.com/nfl/story/2012-01-11/report-todd-haley-to-meet-with-jets-on-thursday
Yea thats what I thought happened. Haley was never going to be our OC unless maybe Sparano turned us down.
That is not correct. The second link in the post you quoted confirmed that Haley was interviewed AFTER the Jets had already made their OC offer to Sparano. Haley was being considered for a title of assistant coach for the O, with primary responsibility to run the passing game. Assuming Ryan was part of the decision to go after Haley after Sparano was already hired, it is no stretch whatsoever to conclude that "the coaches Ryan wanted" included Haley working with Sparano. So, when Haley turned down the Jets' offer, that meant Ryan did not get the "coaches" he wanted. Not all of them.
I never said he had every coach I wanted. I said the coaches he has here are coaches he wants here. Big difference. He never wanted Haley as OC he wanted Sparano. The fact that he didn't get Haley as an offensive assistant doesn't change the fact that all the coaches on the staff now are ones he wants here.
