I thought this was a very good article by Jenny that gives us a nice idea of how the offense is transitioning to the new offense and some of the relatively more intricate changes they're going to be making.

I also thought it pretty much said the exact opposite of a previous article that talked about how simple the offense would be.

Mmm... I don't know how to feel about this... I mean, isn't Sanchez known to stare down his WRs instead of reading the D ?

According to some people. I think our coaches probably have a better idea of what he can handle.

At times he did. However he also excelled when they ran a more simplified uptempo offensive at the end of the half, late in games and in the two-minute drill. That type of offensive keeps the motion to a minimum and requires players to read, adjust and improvise versus being "stuck" in the playcall.

Not every QB can excel at a WCO precision offense or Coryell timing offense and there is nothing wrong with that. When Testaverde arrived, he played great in the Erhardt/Perkins offense, which the scheme is based upon. The WCO didn't fit Testaverde as evidenced when the switch to Hackett and the WCO was made when Herm arrived. The offense is also the base of NE's offense which has also incorporated the read-option, without the "run" because of Brady's limited mobility.

The idea is to shape the scheme to match the QB, not the either way around as the Jets have tried to do the past 3 years in force feeding a WCO that doesn't suit Sanchez's skill set. The bottom-line is that this switch will be a decision point for Sanchez and the Jets. He will either excel or be out of a job in the next two years.

If Holmes sounds like a fan that's a good start. Sounds like Sanchez is also putting in work.I don't remember Tone speaking up about Oakland after the loss.

Also, can somebody explain this idea more and what it means? I never played football so I am not familiar with the term or idea
" Now included in the Jets’ lexicon is the “bandit,” usually a hot receiver on the weak side."

The post-modern NFL QB doesn't even look at his WR's during the play. He's reading where a few key defensive players are. When the safeties stare at the QB these days they find the QB staring back.

The point of having the route tree available is that the QB knows where his WR's are going to be at any given point in a play depending on where that key defender is. The WR's know where the ball is going to be, again depending on where the defender goes.

Sounds to me like Schotty's offense had a lot of stuff bass-ackwards. Hopefully Sparano has a more modern take on the passing game.

I thought Schotty's offense was to be read and react also? I just think Sparano demands more from his players and is a more firm and better teacher. I think the Jets will do better under Sparano for those reasons. Accountability. Sparano makes everyone accountable. Schotty was maybe too young and just did'nt have the personality needed.

Looks like Schotty is being blamed for that. We'll find out how much of it was on him in a few months.

it just means a receiver on sanchez's left whos route is to be determined at the line based on the d. if the guy is uncovered, could be one thing, if hes manned up, or if hes got a back playing off him, if a heavy blitz is coming, etc.

The weak side is not always on the left. It is the side of the field that does not have the tight end or, if there is not TE, it is the side with less offensive players. It has absolutely nothing to do with right and left.

When you read this article, you realize how complex pro offenses are. We really have no idea what the QB is looking at and why or where the ball is supposed to go. However, after watching Schotty's offense for 6 years, most of know it didn't work, was QB unfriendly, and was often illogical if not mind-boggling. There is a reason why Sanchez had success in the two minute drill. He was not bogged down by that awful offense. In this case, the change appears to be a good one and the players seem to like it. Just look at Holmes' quotes. Have you ever seen so many positive statements from Holmes in one article. And the failure to adjust to the zone against the Raiders is an incredible indictment of Schotty and not Sanchez.

    I feel for Sam Bradford.

Sanchez and Sparano play off of each other well

Sparano loves to run the ball and Sanchez is at his best when we have a well established run game and he can get that play action bomb in. Sparano loves to go deep a few times a game and with Stephen King of the Hill on the outside and an honest defense we can see some great ball movement through the air. Hill, Holmes, Kerley and hopefully Keller will develop great chemistry in the offense and Mark will undoubtedly be able to hit either one for catches so that should his stare down tendencies.

Ideally I would have loved to bring back Braylon and have Hill and Dougie working outside the numbers, Holmes and Kerley working the slot and Keller tearing up the middle of the field.

    Music to my ears..

BUT..... IMO, possibly the greatest flaw of Schottenheimer had more to do with Game plan, Play calling and Adjustments.

The System is one thing. Calling the perfect game and plays is the Key....

When you go into Baltimore (2010) and they are without Ed Reed and missing 2 CB's to the point where you can't even name a player in their secondary YET, they still have one of the best front 7's you could put on the field and you come up with a game plan to Ground and Pound and take no shots downfield while setting up 3rd and long all day You are doing Exactly what the Defense wants you to do and it would take a miracle.

They went into a game Vs Oakland with Favre after they were criticized of not using favre enough and threw the ball around all day VS one of the best pass defenses when they could have run the ball all day.....

How about the Bills game in a Wind where the Jets ran for like 400 yards yet kept having Mark throw the ball to rack up his INT numbers?? All they had to do was hand off every play and go home with a W.

The one thing I want to see which Schotty rarely showed me is: TAKE WHAT THE DEFENSE GIVES YOU................. AND KEEP TAKING IT!!!!!!! (don't try to be too smart and come up with some HB option when you can run it at will)

I'm excited to see this offense go more vertical. More explosive plays please!
