Agent to Revis: When asked if you are going to hold out, say "IDK" Revis: OK. Cimini to Revis: Are you going to hold out? Revis: IDK. Man-ish to Revis: Are you going to hold out? Revis: IDK REPEAT 500000000 times. WHO CARES?
The Jets have more leverage this time. Last time if Revis didnt start we would have been force to start Kyle Wilson who was a rookie. This time Rookie is in his 3rd year and is better, and Cromartie is just Cromartie. I think we could survive a few weeks without Revis, until he gets the hint that the Jets arent paying him, and then he will have no choice but to return. I would definately not give him money, he could lose all of his money for the next 2 years and rot on the bench.
Did you guys watch the video? Was that Cimini asking the "follow up" question, which was exactly the same as the initial question? Judging by his body language, it looked like Revis wanted to give Cimini a mouthful of Chiklets. Then a third reporter, tongue in cheek, asks Revis AGAIN and everyone busts of laughing. Great stuff.
Lets use last season as an example. Im not gonna do the research you can. When he shutdown the opposing teams #1 WR the NYJETS won the game.
Trade him, IMO. We don't need this shit, and we can get A LOT for him. Yeah, he's the best CB and arguably defensive player in the NFL, but he's too much of a distraction and he's selfish. Plus, we can't afford to keep giving him lucrative deals every time he decides he wants more money.
I love Revis, hes the best since Deion. that being said your out of your mind. People act like if we dont have Revis wed prop up a dead guy like Weekend At Bernies at CB. Weekend At MetLife. You dont pay Revis like you pay Calvin Johnson. Revis doesnt score points. Its not like every number 1 WR is going for 1600 yds 12 tds a year. The dropoff in defense could be offset by saving some money to go get actual pass rushers people have been crying for since Abraham left. I want to see Revis retire a Jet. and hes a once in a generation talent. that being said I find it funny that people consider discussing what we could net in a trade for him pure insanity. the only way hed be worth the kind of money im sure hes looking for is if there were a Calvin/Andre Johnson on every roster we had to face every week. and thats simply not the case.
he shuts down opposing teams WR every week. by this logic we should go 16-0 every year. theres too many holes on this team because of inflated FA contracts were looking to get off the books next year. we cant afford to keep paying Revis top market dollar and adjust his annual figure to the top of the market every year or two. and thats what hes been demanding since he got here. ESPECIALLY when he will likely use the new WR contracts of 16-18 mil a yr as a negotiating tactic
^he does more than shut down the best receiver week in and week out. He shuts down 1/3 of the field. Look, the guy is playing with the Jets this year. Let's bump this thread after we win the Super Bowl.
let me just ask you. how much would you be willing to pay him? and saying he shuts down 1/3 of the field is a little much. he might in theory. but if that was the case our poor safety play wouldnt matter as much as it does.
This is a ridiculous statement. So have the Broncos been a 2-14 team all these years if Champ Bailey wasn't on the team? Would the Raiders have been 0-16/1-15 repeatedly without Asomugha? Cornerbacks have about the lowest effect on a team's win-loss percentage of any starter on the roster. As long as you have decent CB's you're ok. If you're starting crappy cornerbacks then that's a different story but if you're starting crappy defensive tackles? Then yes, you're probably losing a bunch more games a year.
So Revis answered the same question he answered months ago with the same answer months ago and it becomes a story again because the media asked him about it a couple months later. This reporting thing seems pretty easy... I think this was went over the first time, but financially for Revis it doesn't make any sense to hold out this summer.
On that note, however, with even a league average corner replacing Revis our safety play would be a fatal flaw (instead of merely a liability.)
No, I'm not doing your research for you. You made the outrageous statement, you do the research to back it up. The fact that you're telling me to do research tells me that you just pulled that statement directly out of your ass. Does Revis make our defense better? Of course he does. Does he give us 3-5 more wins per year? Probably not, but I'm willing to listen to a reasonable argument. That means more than telling me to do some research. Exactly.
Really, who gives a shit if he is there or not. He was there last year and the Jets still sucked..he is just not that important.
Man, I'm not as optimistic as some are about this being a non-story. Based on Revis' previous actions this could get real ugly. Love him as a player, but at some point this organization has to wonder if he will ever be happy. And I get it, NFL careers are short and getting as much money as you can is important considering the risk, but seriously, what person could not live the rest of their lives on what he's made already?
You can't get blood from a stone. The Jets can't afford (from a cap perspective) to re-do his deal this year or trade him. What's he going to do?
In 2010 Revis didn't play in 3.5 games. The Jets won every one of those games. vs. NE @MIA @BUF vs. BUF 4-0 vs the division without Revis.
