Finally something happens, and I get home from work to see the thread with 21 posts!? I'm glad we got depth at least, but still disappointed.
Saw a comment somewhere that he was too expensive and isn't what he used to be... Personally I wouldn't have minded seeing a 1-year deal with McKenzie and properly fix the OL issues next draft. We got most of the D sorted, just gotta fully fix the running game now so Dirty can shine again.
A great method for testing the cooking of spaghetti, but unfortunately less tried and tested in the formation of an offensive line.
You do realize that Hunter graded out a lot better than the few plays that got the most attention? Hunter had more good games than bad and wasn't the only Jet lineman to grade that way. If you're so willing to crap on Hunter, then make room for Ferguson, because he didn't grade out much better. Some Jet fans think they know more than G-d and the Jets coaching staff that have more riding on the players performance than running their (fans) mouths. G-d I detest the whiners (not indicating or pointing the finger at any individual posters) that have no clue that this is only a friggin game for the masses and a profession only for the few.
IMO the D is a long way from being where Rex wants it. I believe the Jets will need to replace both OLB's next season (contracts and age of the starters) as well as the secondary. Aren't Landry and Bell playing on one year deals? Can we really count on the two safeties we drafted this year or the second year safety Wilson? Before I write Hunter off, I'd like to see how he performs in Sparano's simpler offense with man blocking assignments. Same is true for DuCasse.
Replacing both LB and also looking for both safeties. This season: Jets have 1-year contracts & maybe Leonard in his final season. I'm hoping they are simply buying time because they view next year draft as much deeper in FS & SS. That makes 4 positions on D that'll see different starters next season.
Jonky all I know is I saw Sanchez get killed a few times last year DIRECTLY because of Hunter . Did other guys blow assignments ? Yes , but Hunter was glaring ,,,,,,,,you did not notice him for the good he was doing but rather the " OLAY " fashion in which he played RT.
Ferguson has shown that he can be consistently good; pro-bowl worthy, actually. Though he had a rough year, you really can't compare the two players. Hunter is a huge question mark (at least to us fans) so you can't blame people calling for a change... he, alone, cost us a few games in my opinion. We need depth and, if he doesn't improve, a replacement.
The Jet line last year was glaring. It's easy to point a finger at one guy, esp when you have no idea of the actual blocking assignments. We don't know if Hunter was expecting a TE to chip the DE and wasn't anywhere to be found. We don't know if Moore was supposed to hit the man first or if Hunter was supposed to chip and the FB or Guard actually pick up the man. BTW, I saw Ferguson get blown away last season more than I did Hunter. Again, I don't know if Slaus or the TE may have blown assignments on DB's muffs. What I do know is that the people that watch every practice had enough faith in Hunter to give him a big raise and haven't been in any rush to replace him. It tells me there is more to the story than the "hunter sucks". Sorry, I'm just plain sick of the immature whining that pervades Jet message boards by people that think they are experts.
I don't blame. I call whining when I see it. He was a first time starter without an offseason that played extremely well down the stretch the year before. I'm not insecure that I see greener grass in the neighbors yard. I understand that a player can have an off year, esp in a year when the entire line had an off year. Why can't I compare the two? What DBrick did the year before has no bearing on the bad season he had last year. I personally think the change in coaching staff will do the offense a world of good and that Hunter will be a good player for the Jets. I doubt he'll ever get Pro Bowl consideration, but some people think that a player sucks if he isn't a top three at his position. Yes we need depth and yes, if he has another bad year replace him. But give up the dumping on the guy and support him for a change. Its much easier for him to play up to the standartds we want when we cheer for him rather than him constantly hearing how the whiney fans thinks he sucks. BE FUCKING SUPPORTIVE!!!!
Theres a difference between giving up coverage sacks and getting embarrassed off the line...yeah, Brick gave up more coverage sacks this year, but he doesn't get beat off the line and look like a fool the way Hunter does. And if you can't see that then i can't help you.
Zee plane boss, zee plane. Someone is living on Fantasy Island. If you think DBrick was only beat on coverage sacks, let me remind you that drugs carry a death penalty in many countries of the world.
Jonky,,,even the SO CALLED experts make mistakes . People have every rite to go off on Hunter,,,you can defend him by saying the other guys played poorly,,, which at times they did. I will agree to disagree,,,my reasoning is that the Jet front Office has blown it when it comes to the off line in the past . At times they seem to let emotion dictate logic---> see the Kendell fiasco but I stray---my biggest problem with the OFF LINE and front office is the total lack of depth ! I thought we were thin before the season last year and then when Mangold went down we were totally exposed. I will say it again - NO ONE WAS BROUGHT IN AT ALL LAST YEAR before or while Sanchez was getting killed and that was a crime. These 2 signings add depth but if neither can oust Hunter from the starting lineup then thats a shame as Hunter in my eyes is dreadful,,,you can disagree all you wish but as I said the so called experts / Tanny has blown in before regarding the Line----I would luv to be proven wrong by Hunter and have the guy play all world,,,I just can't / have not seen that.
Rush came from OUTSIDE, and there was no TE involved. Or was it WR supposed to be chipping the DE? Edit: Maybe Keller was supposed to chip Von Miller on the first clip. I don't know. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- That said, I can't say I'm impressed with this signing. Heyer was a group of OL that gave up 46 sacks and 97 QB hits while plowing the way for some 1500 yard for the RBs all year long. (1500 yard was annual total - meaning, they averaged less than 100 yards a game on the ground.) (Note: That means, this OL belonged to the bottom tenth in both run blocks and pass blocks in 2009) Was he the culprit? Or was he the lone star? Or was he forced to start all 16 for the lack of better replacement? (Think WFH last year.) I don't know if I can say which is the case, but if anything, this is not something that will all of a sudden seal the leaking protection or pave the way for the RBs.
