Something doesn't seem right here. It's the preseason, and the jets don't hesitate to try onside kicks, fake punts, reverses, etc. But everytime the jets line up for a 50+ yard FG, they either run out the game clock and punt, or attempt a pooch kick. It's the preseason and they won't even let nuge try some 50 yarders? I say they shouldn't even bother punting if the kick is 58 yards or less. Let the kid kick, mangini might not trust him or something.
If the kid can hit a 58 yarder in practise whats it matter what he does in a PRE-season game. Points aren't premium, assesing talent is. Seeing a pooch by Nugent in the preseason shows me more versatility. If the guy couldn't kick filed goals he wouldn't be in the NFL.
He can either kick them or not. More important to see how gamebreak situations pan out , not that I'm saying a 50+ field isn't!
Because in college he made a 55 yarder. And I believe on one of those 50 yarders that he missed, he was Wide...
I think Mangini is trying to be careful w/ nuge's confidence. There's no sense on having him kick a 53 yarder wide during the preseason, and shatter any confidence he has.
How cant you say that Mangini wants to practise Ben Grahams hooch punts??? We cant make so many assumptions that we 'know' Mangini... hes very secretive which i like in a coach
