I think I figured out why Tebow dominates the media. The media exist not for news anymore but to sow controversy for debate and debate equals ratings. Its the same reason CNN, MSNBC , FOX etc all shape the news and opinions, to further debate , which you guess it ...equals ratings. Tebow is the all time individual in making EVERYBODY right. You think he sucks and is terrible? He is guaranteed to prove it in most games You think he is a winner and clutch? He is guaranteed to prove it in most games You think he is a selfless force for good and charity? Absolutely, unreal what he does for children all over the world. You think he is an attention whore who wants to be front and center ? He sues a no name company about a t-shirt no one heard about . It never ends, he is everything for everybody and thus becomes the ultimate debate subject and thus is ALWAYS in the news. He does not do it on purpose though, he is who he is . He is a good human being (by all accounts) and he is an incredible athlete and he does suck throwing the ball and he does wins games and he does go 3 an out series after series and he does deliver a ridiculous drive in the 4th quarter and he does throw a wobbly duck into the dirt and he does help children all over the world and he does go to the met with no date and he does sue a no name t shirt company etc. So people that love debate gravitate towards him, fans and haters alike, on top of everything else.
Plain and simple -- he moves the needle. In every sense, in every way. I can't fully explain why. Even his name is kind of memorable.
He gets ratings, like Arod used to, Lebron does now, and the Jets have since Rex got here. People tune in, and therefore they go crazy.
You're incorrect. Not only are you overanalyzing and still somehow oversimplifying "media attention", your logic could explain to someone who has never heard of Terrell Owens why he got so much media attention while he was on the Eagles. Please stick to what you're good at (analyzing the football aspect of Tebow).
To really focus on the Achilles heal of your post, I have to turn to Team Obliteration. I have a PhD on TO. please lecture me on Terrel Owens. Owens talent HAS NEVER been in question. Owens is a great receiver who is an A**hole , to peg him beyond that is to be willing to accept ridicule in my next post, specifically when you compare how Tebow polarizes versus him.
It was just a matter of time............... Madden NFL 13 to Feature 'Tebowing,' Says Creative Director
Just read that on PFT. Nothing wrong with having the most popular player in the world on the big NY Stage and as a Jet. You want the superstar players. The Marquette name. The player everyone talks about. It gets people to follow the team.
Guy handles the media well, excites every locker room he's been in, is a beast in the weight room and produces whenever he hits the field. He will simply compliment Sanchez.
Such is the reason why sport media is a joke these days. They'd rather debate non issues related to drama, rather than the game of football itself. It never has to do with the plays on the field, it's only about drama and social media.
A story about a high school kid from Fort Myers, Florida, in the ESPN New York section? I hate you Tim Tebow http://espn.go.com/new-york/nfl/sto...ate-denied-diploma-temporarily-tim-tebow-pose
I think the reason Tebow dominates the media attention is that he strikes a chord with a lot of people out there who feel somewhat dispossessed from the elite culture that dominates our society. The numbers don't prove him out as an NFL QB but he seems to get the job done anyway. The experts don't think his QB ability is at an NFL level but he seems to get the job done anyway. He makes common cause with the fans with all the religious stuff that accompanies his performance. He's kind of the perfect poke in the eye at authority and power and he's a really nice guy while he's doing it. I think the popularity is kind of driven by all of the above. If we were in calm, settled times nobody would look twice at Tim Tebow but in the turbulent times we live in, where authority seems always to be on the side of the elite Tebow is a great champion for the common man,
Good points. I guess there is where I fall in the minority and never saw him as an underdog story because I didn't follow college football. I never really paid attention or thought about what lets a player transition from NCAA to NFL. I saw a Heisman winning, national champion QB be drafted in the first round of the NFL draft. I really didn't feel for the "difficulties" he had compared to other prospects and didn't really feel he was for the "common man". Maybe because I thought he could be a QB with a few mechanic changes when he was drafted I don't appreciate what he has done as much? My expectations were misconceived and higher than others so I ended not fully appreciating him as a lot of other people do.
I have followed TT since he started at UF. He came in with very good numbers from HS in passing and running. Why is he a media darling. Two real reasons. He produces and he is white. Now that said, he was a white guy running the ball. That is rare now days. He broke Herschel Walker's TD record in the SEC. THat was a big deal. He won a Heisman and two national titles (he helped win the other one) He was the first to run for 30 TDs and pass for 30 in one year. He was a monster in college . Then he had that magic run in Denver last year. The boy has something and it aint glitter it is steel and resolve.
