http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000...ng-goodbye-to-long?module=HP11_headline_stack Miami Dolphins saying goodbye to Long? NEW YORK -- Is Jake Long suddenly on shaky ground in Miami? It's possible after the Dolphins selected Stanford left tackle Jonathan Martin in the second round of the NFL draft on Friday night. Martin protected Andrew Luck's blind side in college, and will likely move to right tackle to start his NFL career. The question is how long the Miami Dolphins plan to keep him there. The first overall pick in the 2008 draft, Long has been an impact player for the Dolphins, earning four Pro Bowl bids for his play. But he's also coming off a season in which he was slowed by knee and biceps injuries. He's due to make $11.2 million in 2012, the final season of his rookie deal. Due to the restructured rookie salary structure, Martin's future deal will be a bargain in comparison. Could financial realities combined with health concerns lead to Miami moving on from Long? Comments by Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland seem to further cloud Long’s future. "We're not going to be as much a power scheme as we've been in the past," he said, according to the South Florida Sun Sentinel. "So his athletic ability and … quickness and ability to play in space transfers to this scheme probably a lot better than any other scheme." Ireland tempered those comments by praising the athleticism of Long, who stands at 6-foot-7 and 317 pounds. "Jake Long can transfer to any scheme, in any offense and any team in the National Football League, in my opinion," he said. "I think the guy is a tremendous athlete. He's quick. He's strong. He can do it." And if he can't? The Dolphins have a younger, more cost-effective player ready to step in. Make him or Dbrik play RT this would be amazing if somehow we got him.....Stay turned wonder if he will be cut or traded
Don't think we could afford him. I don't want to mess with our LT position, so if he does come in plug him into RT.
besides the obligatory Sign This Beast, if he was so badly damaged that we could afford him, then we wouldn't want him anyway. He's probably not going anywhere.
Martin had already been told he would be playing RT in an interview and I thought this article would have some real sources not speculation lol. Breaking News RG3 will not be starting they have drafted Kirk! And he's under contract we would trade him not cut him so expect to them get something in return IF they would want to get rid of him.
I HIGHLY doubt he goes anywhere... But if he did get cut, I would do whatever it takes to sign the fuggin beast (if it means cutting Devito, do it). When healthy, he is easily the best LT in football. We have connections with Sparano and our new OL coach, if he was cut, we better pursue this like our season depends on it... because it could.
Don't believe the hype. Martin will be playing RT and Jake will stay at LT. Honestly, Jeff is putting together a good draft this year without papa Parcells.
I'm thinking that we had a glaring hole at RT that needed to be addressed either way and if it adds some security in the event that Jake Long either gets hurt or is unreasonable in his contract demands then we aren't completely fucked. Of course we need Martin to pan out first.
In the very unlikely event this ever happened then there are 20 teams in the NFL that would want him as much as the Jets and 18 of them probably have more cap room.
