Only 5 fullbacks took more snaps than Conner did last year. The NFL may be evolving to more and more of a passing league but the Jets seem intent to stay in the 1940's. I don't see him going anywhere, then again, I never saw the Jets parting ways with Dwight Lowery last year - which I still think was stupid.
If you're gonna field a 53 man roster through the draft with an avg career of 5-7 yrs, then you should draft 3-4 starters every year, on avg. Picks in rounds 1,2,3 should become starters. Picks in rounds 5,6,7 should become solid backups. Pick in round 4 is the 'swing pick'. Get a starter in round 4 every other year and you're golden. If your picks fail, then you look to FA to make up the slack.
mckenzie is hiring friends and family members it is ridiculous he will be sorry he left it is not a better position it's the same position no matter what title they give him except instead of earning it his buddy gave it to me broncos had a good draft last year i'd look at hiring xander i am pretty sure the broncos horrible draft this year was all on the EGOMANIAC Elway
im glad we got insight as to Clinkscales talent level from someone who has worked with him day in and day out.
Let's just say he was overruled on Gholston , he still made a recommendation for Eric fucking Ainge. I wanted Mayo in that draft, but we got a whole lot of bust instead.
If you have any real info on his new job share it. Otherwise you sound like an idiot. It seems like you are taking this really personally that someone chooses to move on to a new job. From what I've read, he is going to be in the front office.
Touching on a couple points... The Jets' drafting hasn't been as good the last 2 years so far. There's certainly still room for improvement, and there has been some instant impact, just not enough of it. It seems lately we're drafting players that fit niche roles rather than ones that address huge needs, or project players that haven't panned out yet. This wouldn't be a problem, but with so few picks every year, it's hard to build depth. When you draft 13 players in 3 years, cracks start to show when certain picks don't contribute right away. Kyle Wilson is a nice player, and I like him to replace Cromartie or Revis in case either situation becomes a problem. But while a nickel back is important in this defense, it's still a bit of a luxury. Again, this wouldn't be a problem if the Jets had more draft picks... 2011 1. Muhammad Wilkerson: Looks like a very good pick right now that addresses a need and was productive in year one. 3. Kenrick Ellis - Project that hasn't panned out yet (certainly not giving up on him) 4. Bilal Powell - 3rd or 4th string RB 5. Jeremy Kerley - Slot receiver/punt returner type though he showed some flashes to be more 7. Greg McElroy - Backup QB at best (basically admitted as such when drafting him) 7. Scotty McKnight - Sanchez's friend, depth WR who got hurt 2010 1. Kyle Wilson - Nickel back for at least the first 3 years of his career, possibly longer if Cromartie and Revis stick around 2. Vladimir Ducasse - Project that hasn't panned out yet 4. Joe McKnight - Athlete who is jack-of-all-trades, master of none 5. John Conner - Blocking fullback when position is becoming a dinosaur Is Keller worth a 1st round pick? My first inclination is no, but he has started from day one and been one of our top 3 options since. However, for a 1st round pick, he's merely an above average receiver and a mediocre blocker at best. Trading up for a tweener tight end was a weird decision at the time, and there's a good chance we let him go after this year. At 28 years old, he's unlikely to improve that much more, though part of his issue seems to be lack of concentration and focus. Is Clinkscales a big loss? Who the hell knows. We're not behind closed doors. We don't know how good he is at evaluating players. The draft is the final output, but there's a lot more to scouting than that, and Tannenbaum's style probably hasn't allowed them to shine as much. And the Raiders are trying to turn into an actual decently run organization now it seems like without Al in charge.
Keller is an above average receiving tightend. The problem with his productivity has been game planning and quality wide outs around him. There were games where shotty would totally ignore certain players on purpose , or other teams would shut down a player and the dope would not or could not change things mid game. If the pats had him he would be in the pro bowl. we could have gates and shotty would of screwed it up. Where do you think the pats got the idea of gronk and hernandez, fast recieving tight ends ? It is a copycat league and they knew keller gave them problems, but they could shut him down and not worry about our wide outs.
When featured Keller has shined. Jets go away from him far too often. Yes he can be shut down with a safety over the top... only 1 or 2 tight ends in this league can break through that. But he is absolutely one of the best athletes on the field every time he steps foot on it.Keller is twice the athlete Fasano was under Sparano...expect big things.
Jets promoted Bauer to Clinkscales' role and hired a guy from Indianapolis further down the chain. Link.
In spite of Clinkscales being from Tenn., during his tenure the SEC has been underrepresented on the Jets. I am glad to see that tendency change and hope Bauer recognizes the SEC for the elite football player factory it is. (Vanderbilt being the exception). Say what you will about Jets from the SEC (one in particular) but the Jets now have what may be the strongest SEC magnate ever on our roster.
Forbes ranked the Jets as the 2nd best drafting team in the NFL since '05. One would think Clinkscales is the primary reason for that, but as Mack said, who the hell knows what goes on behind closed doors. As long as they filled his position with someone as knowledgeable we'll be fine.
I'd love to know how they came to that conclusion. The Ravens, Steelers, and Packers clearly have drafted better, and that's just 3 off the top of my head.
They created a formula based upon starting time and pro bowls, etc. Then they did the math on all the teams and we came in 2nd. Yeah, its not arbitrary, but its a made up formula nonetheless.
