http://www.nytimes.com/2012/05/06/s...en-a-step-ahead.html?_r=1&partner=rss&emc=rss I know this is the time of the year for puff pieces, but the more I'm learning about the players from this year's draft class, the more I'm really liking it.
I really like this year's draft. But among them, I like Davis the best. I think he is going to be great.
Thanks for the article, good read. I can't recall being this excited for a draft class for a long time.
I think his biggest impact will be in making others better. If anyone isn't giving full effort he'll call them out regardless of which side of the ball they are on. That is the type of player that you win championships with.
I hope Rex doesn't heap too much on this kid's shoulders before he gets a chance to even play an NFL snap.
so this guy is gonna be a MLB or an OLB? I really want him to be an OLB because I dont think that Thomas should be our starter. Maybin might end up being the starter for us this year. Wish he would put on some weight because Maybin is pretty skinny for an OLB.
This guy is still a rookie 3rd rounder. I'm not expecting him to start. I would expect his role to primarily be on 3rd down, either rushing from outside/inside or covering tight ends.
kinda funny how most of us trashed this pick when it happened because we wanted bobby massie or lamar miller, but i honestly think this guy could pan out to be an all time great. his determination and leadership skills make me love him already. stephen hill is acted like a little kid in a candy shop when he first joined the jets and demario davis is a true leader. if these guys can keep an enthusiastic mentality and leadership role on the jets, i see a drastic change (in a good way)
I can't remember being this hyped about 3 Jets draft picks in a while. Seriously, the top 3 guys all look very good on paper, and even the late rounders seem to have some ability. Coples, Hill and Davis all have the ability to be some of the best at their positions. Will they? Who knows. Davis is still pretty raw, he needs to learn how to wrap better, he needs to harness his speed so he doesn't run himself out of plays, and he needs to improve his coverage skills. But I'm really excited about him anyway. Our linebacking corps is slow as hell. Davis gives us someone who can fly around, and the way Rex is creative in sending blitzers, someone like him can be very effective. I'm sure at first the Jets will mostly use him in pass down plays as a blitzer and a cover guy. If he progresses like he should, he could be a starter next year, and judging by articles like this, he can start to take on a leadership role.
Maybin has put on over 15pounds this offseason. I think he's up around 243 last he said. Its not the first time though he bulked up in the offseason. The trick is keeping the weight on for when it matters.
I'm expecting him to give Scott a breather on 3rd downs before becoming his replacement. maybe some OLB in coverage packages w/ Maybin rushing from the other edge. I really like this pick, and it may have the best longterm impact for the JETS. next season if the draft a solid OLB, O-linemen and a ball-hawk safety this team could be stacked for awhile
Personally, I think it is clear that everyone the Jets drafted is going to be great. Hall of Famers. Even the undrafted ones. Absolutely amazing!
A nickel backer so to speak. That's where I see him as well. I could also see him as a blitzer in certain packages. Its one of the things I most appreciate about Rex... just give him some tools for his tool box and he'll build something that works.
Go play with yourself. Bills fans talking shit, what the hell is going on? Go back to your own message boards where people talk about what color pants the Bills should wear en route to their 8th consecutive losing season.
