I know this alittle late but i was just thinking about it. i watched the giant-chief game on thursday and was listening to troy aikmens commentary on why herman is the hc of the chiefs. it was such a joke. he was brought in to fix the d was one thing said. now yes herm was a d coordinator and yes he played cb but does anyone know how many plays herman calls? 0! his coordinators do it all. they also said he runs a strict camp...my ass.

this brings me to my question. is it me or do commentators just give generic bullshit info because they dont actually know. im sick of teams and networks signing commentators because of their name and not knowledge. greg buttle called patrick ramsey derrick ramsey earlier..its such a joke

I heard that "Derrick" Ramsey slip, too, but in his defense, he did correct it shortly after. I agree that most commentators in general are complete boobs. How Theisman has a job in the booth is beyond me.

For the record, Herm was never a defensive coordinator--he was Tampa Bay's assistant coach.

I do think that he has a hands on role in running the defense. People don't claim that Bill Belichick has nothing to do with the Pats defense, I don't see why they'd make that claim about Edwards.

As for commentators, of course they're idiots. Salisbury, Theismann, Collinsworth--what a way to make a paycheck!

I'm 99.9% certain that Jim Johnson calls Philadelphia's defensive plays.

This amazes me. Half of the way through training camp and ALREADY there's spin happening in Kansas City. Lowering expectations.

If I didn't know any better - and it could be that I don't - I'd say that Herm has successfully nuzzled right up to the the Kansas City sports press. Although, Jason Whitlock was fertile ground before Herm ever came around.

EDIT: I just can't let this go. This absolutely amazes me. A few minutes ago, I looked to my right, and there I was sitting beside myself. In just ONE MONTH of training camp, Herm has successfully spun the Chiefs' mindset from Superbowl contenders into patient and hopeful fans. For YEARS Chiefs fans screamed about just missing the playoffs or, worse yet, losing in the first round. Read that Whitlock piece. It's a headshaker. 9-7 for KC is no longer a bad result. Now, 9-7 has turned into a "successful rebuilding year." Unbelievable. It only took ONE FRIGGIN' MONTH to lower expectations.

Yep, most of us thinking people KNEW he was going to run this team into the ground. I feel kinda bad for the fans. From Superbowl bound to rebuilding in a month.....:rofl2:

Thought this was interesting from Jeremy Green's blog espn.com:

I never have been a big believer in preseason wins and losses. You can look no further than the Indianapolis Colts as proof. They have now lost eight consecutive preseason games over two-plus years, and I would doubt head coach Tony Dungy is ready to hit the panic button.
In the case of the Kansas City Chiefs, however, I am worried. It isn't just that they have lost their first two preseason games; it is the way in which they have lost them, being outscored 41-14. More importantly they have been outscored 28-7 in the all-important first halves of those games. The first half is where you really want to see your team perform, as the majority of the guys playing are first- and second-string players.

So am I making too much of this? I don't think so. I just don't see guys buying into Herman Edwards' program right now.

In viewing the Chiefs' first two preseason games, there doesn't appear to be much hustle. They're not being physical up front on either side of the ball. What happened to the day and age when a new head coach came on board and everyone's job was on the line? I don't think this team is getting that message right now. This is a team that is showing a complete lack of urgency.

Yes, they are talented, but they are not good enough to turn the switch on come Week 1 after a lackluster preseason showing.

So what is the biggest issue? You could easily point to the offensive line woes. Starting LOT William Roaf and ROT John Welbourn have retired. I agree those two positions are areas of concern, but that has nothing to do with how poorly the team has looked on the defensive side of the ball.

I don't like to read too much into preseason games, but with a coach and high expectations, the Chiefs need to show something in their Week 3 preseason game vs. cross-state rival St. Louis.

For some reason, these so-called FOX experts who are all a part of the NFL's inner-circle royalty network feel they must talk up and defend Herm no matter what. Maybe it's his ties to Vermeil, I don't know, but it's absurd.

I think it was Jimmy Johnson who said before the game that Herm had to leave the Jets because he didn't like what was happening with the personnel decisions!

You'd think these guys can do a modicum of research before they go on air, but not JJ, and not Troy and certainly not Bradshaw.
