I would consider becoming a JPP player a boom pick. That was a boom or bust type pick for the Giants and it seems to have boomed. Our DE Randy Starks made a pro bowl, but I wouldn't consider him a great player. And to VanderbiltJet, I dont know how you can say QB should have been filled via Free Agency over the draft. And yea Tannehill is another boom or bust type. I'm just happy they finally took a shot at a QB. I love our draft based on the picks in rounds 2-4 more than just Tannehill. Again, this is just my opinion, and I admit it might be a bit biased. Yes only a bit. We filled needs and got pretty good value. Tannehill was a little reach, but everyone agrees quarterbacks get picked higher, and Kiper had him as his 17th ranked player I think, so your only talking about a reach of 9 picks. That isn't that much of a reach.
Still too early to grade but id say the Fins did the worst. Tannehill was clearly not a top 10 pick, and though you guys picked up just about EVERY player from UM in the draft, you didnt get the one that was actually a NEED. Trade up for Miller? RB was one of the only positions that didnt need to be addressed lol. How about Streeter? More like, you should have taken Michael Floyd with the #8 to atleast fill that #1 WR need. Are you really going to go into next season with Hartline as the #1 and a backup QB and give yourself an A for a draft grade? Only position you really addresses was RT. You guys dont really have the luxury of drafting a player to sit for a year and learn like GB or NE. You needed an impact NOW type player with the #8. Looks like another year of below 500 to me . Not exactly a success if you ask me! SMH
I say the Fins did the worst also. You went into the draft with your top 2 receivers as Brian Hartline and Clyde Gettis and didn't address the position with anyone of significance. WHO THE HELL IS GOING TO PLAY WR FOR YOU GUYS? The Bills had the best draft IMO, and it aint close. CB's Stephon Gilmore, Ron Brooks OL's Cordy Glenn, Zebrie Sanders LB's Nigel Bradham, Tank Carder WR TJ Graham
i just read SI pre-draft selections they had coples going 15th and steven hill going 28th didn't have the bills pick of irvin going in the first round HOW THE F#$K can peter king give the jets a D- when our top two picks were his choice to be first rounders----and Buffalo's first round pick wasn't even his choice to go first round???????????????????????? all these sports guys just hate the JETS----nypost had coples 9th--usatoday had coples 11th profootball weekly had couples 13th----all high picks----we got us a very good first rounder yet these jerks change their minds as soon as the jets get him
The dolphins filled alot of needs actually. We got a QB, RT, DE, pass catching TE, and 2 WR. I don't know how you can say they didn't fill needs. Also, according to our head coach, the west coast offense doesn't require a number one reciever. I would like to have one, but it isn't a must. And the TE we drafted is basically a just a big reciever. Tannehill was a reach, a slight reach and definately worth it. Sanchez was a reach to you guys, but you needed a QB. Todd Mcshay said we had the 5th best draft so he at least liked it. Reggie Bush has only 1 year on his contract and he's injury prone so it's good to have a back that is very similar, explosive, and most thought would go in the 2nd round. According to everybody we're rebuilding, but all of a sudden we need players to help us Now? We're switching to a more pass happy quick paced offense, and we got players to fit that, and at good value. Ryan Tannehill- Huge need, slight reach Jonathan Martin - Huge need, great value Olivier Vernon - Huge need, average value, not a reach, not a steal Michael Egnew - When you consider the need for some pass catchers, which he is, it's a huge need, average value, not a reach Lamar Miller - No need, great value, and with Reggie's injury history and only a year on his contract, not a bad pick. Like I said, the rest of the draft was just gravy, and included 2 WR that again had good value where we got them. Hate all you want, but we no doubt got good value on alot of guys, besides tannehill. And for people saying that with the 8th overall pick you should have sombody that will contribute right away, most QB's need time to develop. And when you consider the talent dropoff after the 6 elite players in the draft, it becomes less of a reach.
Grading drafts is a ludicrous exercise. In terms of value, both Coples and Hill were considered good value by most who follow the draft. But if they both become busts, this draft will likely be a disaster. If they live up to their physical potential, then it could be one of the best drafts in Jets history. Or it could be anywhere in between. We'll find out in a couple years.
According to you GM your not "rebuilding" lol I like the Jonathan Martin pick but other than that Im not seeing much. Even if you guys still had Marshall, WR was still a need. Take Marshall away and now its a desperate need. If your happy with Hartline as your top WR? What ever floats your boat I guess. Better your team than mine!
Sanchez was a reach maybe in your world. He was projected to be be drafted by the 8th pick by Jags that year, and a lot of mocks had him drafted by Seattle at 4th overall. Once Seattle didn't draft him, Jets decided to trade up n take him cuz Bucs, Jags, and Skins had him on their radars. Hate all you want, but we no doubt got good value on alot of guys, besides tannehill. And for people saying that with the 8th overall pick you should have sombody that will contribute right away, most QB's need time to develop. And when you consider the talent dropoff after the 6 elite players in the draft, it becomes less of a reach Tannehill was a second round talent that went extremely high due to teams need. Just to give u an example, 8th overall pick's value (1400 points) is about 3 times as much as the 40th overall pick (500 points). He was a second round talent that wasn't going to last beyond 20th pick due to team needs, but it's still a reach. I don't blame the Dolphins for taking him however. Matt Moore is a better player than given credit for. And if u think u can draft ur QB of the future, and give him hartline n Bess as #1 n #2 as his weapons, then that QB won't have much success there, especially when that QB has a 2nd round grade.
By that logic, tannehill wasn't a reach at all, because almost everybody had him projected to go to us at 8. But it's not about that, it's about where he is graded. Sanchez was not in the top 10 players in the draft on most boards, but he was projected that high because of team needs. I admit tannehill was a reach. But he wasnt a 2nd round player. Kiper had him as his 17th best player I believe, so right around the middle of the 1st. There is a good chance he doesn't even see the field this year, so WR shouldn't be too much of an issue with him, as they can get somebody next year. But either way, the west coast offense isn't about having a go to guy. It's about spreading the ball around to whoever is open. And Hartline, Bess, Nanee, and the 2 recievers we drafted are good route runners with good hands that know how to get open. Philbin said he was comfortable with our recievers so I'll take his word for it, seeing as that he is one of the best offensive minds in the game right now, and knows how to get the most out of his players. I'll admit, reciever is definately more of a weakness than a strength, but I think our OC will be able to overcome alot of that. Also, Hartline and Bess have never had a good chance to shine because Marshall demanded the ball so much.
What do you mean by better your team than mine? Do you really think you have good recievers. You have one good reciever who is a bad 1 and a really good 2. Definately not worth the money he gets and the drama he causes. Other than that who do you have? Patrick Turner who wasn't good enough to stay on our team with our crummy recievers. Schillens? Who? And then a rookie that by most accounts is no closer to seeing the field than Tannehill. I'm sure he will because reciever is much easier to step into, but my point is he is just as raw if not more raw than tannehill. Don't mistake it, your qb is in the same situation.
That's what coaches say when they have no receivers. That is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Tell Joe Montana or Steve Young that their west coast offense didn't need Jerry Rice. And you keep saying "we drafted 2 WRs" as if they are good and anyone has heard of them. You drafted them in the 6th and 7th rounds. I can't wait until those shitty WRs go up against Revis and Cromartie and Gilmore and Williams. Who is your rookie QB going to throw to, Anthony Fasano? :rofl2:
Correct. Added to the fact, a good offensive line helps the Qb and Wr's play better. I assume the fins OL will be better with Pouncey, Long and Martin which will help whichever Qb that is getting acclimated to the WCO. Considering the Jets still have a hot pocket playing right tackle, I'd pray Sanchez doesn't go out in week 2 and Teblow starts the rest of the season.
the draft changes little in my mind.....AFCE bottom line is have the Jets closed the gap with the Pats( a big NO in my mind) Bills can have all the talent in the world,,, their QB is NOT a winner Miami desperately picked a qb who couldnt win in college,,but a nice pro day throwing to men in underwear. 2-3 impact players on all teams isnt gonna change the dynamics this year UNLESS BRADY gets injured
How would you know? Fitz has never been on a talented team before. The closest sample was the team last year, who started off the year beating some of the best teams in the league on his way to the best stats of any QB in the league. Then he broke 3 ribs, and we were bringing people in off the street to play o-line and WR. We'll see this year. But there's no way you can definitively say he's not a winner when he's never had the opportunity.
The point is there is no go to reciever in the west coast offense. It's based on progression and whoever is open. And by the way, Bess and Hartline have never had a hard time getting open against Revis and Cro, and I doubt a rookie CB is gonna come in and shut them down. But good luck with that. But what does Joe Philbin know. Bills over Jets says they don't have a chance. I guess we're done. Another year of losing to the bills, o wait, didn't we sweep you guys last year. O but Gilmore is gonna change all of that. Dumbest thing I've ever heard.
Wrong! Sanchez was a top 10 talent on several rankings. Yes, several rankings. A lot of them had him at 5, the exact spot where he was drafted. Those are rankings I am referring to. Scout.com had him at 5 while they had Stafford at 6. Sure, Stafford is the better QB of the two, but you get the point. Also, several draft gurus had Sanchez as a 'close' second to Stafford. I would like to see mel kipers list. I've seen Tannehill listed as a late 1st to early 2nd rounder. Again, Im not knocking on the Dolphins for taking him. He just doesn't seem like a great QB coming out of college. He wasn't consistent in college either. He blew up major leads against OSU, Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas and Texas Longhorns. Nearly blew up against Texas Tech. That's too inconsistent at college level to have much success in the NFL. Yes, he might not start this year, but you needed WR this year, unless you are already salvaging the season. If they draft a rookie WR next year, he'll need time to develop unless its a top ten pick (a good chance you'll get that pick too). Martin was a great value pick, however. Yeah, WCO isn't about a go-to-guy, but to spread the ball to someone who is open, you still need a dependable WR. Naanee, Bess, and Hartline don't scare anybody, especially when there isn't a WR that is drawing up double team. Being a coach who has never taught WRs in the NFL, Im sure Philbin can get the best out of Bess/Hartline/Naanee. Marshall may have demanded the ball a lot, but he also demanded double coverage a lot too. Bess and Hartline couldn't shine then, I doubt they shine now. In a nutshell, there is no Beast on the Dolphins offense.
I don't think Gilmore changes that. But I think having a healthy Fred Jackson, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Steve Johnson, Eric Wood, Kraig Urbik, Donald Jones, Kyle Williams, , Marcell Dareus, George Wilson, Shawne Merriman, Terrence McGee, Aaron Williams... PLUS adding Mario Williams, Mark Anderson, Stephon Gilmore, and Cordy Glenn changes that.
So basically this coming season is just a throwaway for the fins while Tannehill is groomed as the starter for 2013? Ok.
Is that what I said? You really need to learn how to read and comprehend better. How is Tannehill going to struggle with recievers that he isn't playing with? Moore has already shown that he can do fine with the players he has. If you watched the dolphins last year you would know that Marshall caused more harm than good. He single handidly lost us games last year. Damn i'm done writing shit on this forum. All I was trying to do was start conversation, but instead it's just critisism. People that add absolutely nothing to a conversation. I ask people to rank drafts, but nobody does that. Posters like you are an absolute joke, and are doing nothing but trolling. Sad that a Jets fan would troll on his home teams forum lol. Moderators should take note, I know I'm a dolphins fan, so it's not going to bother anybody that they're losing a rival from there site, but just so you guys know, your forum is losing people like me that try to have good natured conversation. It's a shame that you guys have let these posters overrun the forum that have nothing to add to a conversation and are just pure assholes. I'm sure I'm not the only one (I know I'm not actually as I've talked to other former posters) that has gotten sick of the constant trolling, and asshole replies. Enjoy your forum cuz I'm gone. -signed Former forum member
