We blew it. Melvin Ingram would have been a better pick. Why do we draft so many 'projects' and think we can make them reach their potential? There aren't enough leaders on this team to inspire someone who gives 80% every play and takes some plays off all together. Coples has potential (looked good at Sr Bowl) but his record speaks for itself, LAZY and little work ethic. Melvin Ingram will reak havoc on opposing offenses.

I hate that comparison. Coples isn't stiff and CAN move off tackles to go for the QB....unlike Gholston who bullied past tackles on brute strength. Coples did show the skill set and didn't explode at the combines ala Gholston. There's a difference.

I just have to hope Coples "Wants It" unlike Gholston.

So the potential to play in the NFL and make millions of dollars wasn't motivation for Coples yet, obviously. What do you suggest to get his motor revving?

Laughing at what? They've drafted like shit for the better part of a half decade save their tight ends.

Apparently you've never watched Coples play in college.

Do you think he has a boat load of pass rushing skills?

I'm assuming this based on what is in your post.

Gholston's motivational issues had a lot to do with him becoming a bust. He was also a one trick pony with horrible football instincts.

Gholston was unmotivated and took plays off for Ohio State on a regular basis, so that aspect was a problem.

He's not a project. Jesus some of you people are talking out of your ass. Coples who I wasn't for picking either is nothing like Vernon fucking Gholston. Gholston's problem was he sucked at football he was just an amazing athelete. Coples is an amazing athelete a good football player who is just lazy. Completely different.

Coples is not a project pick by any sense and thinking so is asinine.

17.5 sacks last 2 years with taking plays off. Guy is lazy but he is a hell of a football player. Gholston sucked at football which was the reason he was a bust. He had 0 instincts. Coples is a good football player who doesn't love the game as much as we would like.

To compare the 2 is retarded.

What pisses me off is the Pats just got the best guard in a decade.

Coples is not Vernon Gholston. He's a good athelete with good football instincts who will get a contract about 20% of what Gholston got. He's not going to put money in the bank and just wait for the Jets to give up and cut him.

Coples, speaking on conf call, said Rex Ryan promised him last wk during visit that he'd be the pick at 16. #jets

I'm shocked DeCastro and Reiff haven't been taken. Just about every mock I saw had them both in the top 15.

Oh right... let's not comment on players in the draft until they've proven something. Might as well close this thread then.

Of Course I (we?) are going to root for anyone wtih a Jets jersey. Doesn't mean I have to agree on him being on this team!

Yeah but both have no will and disappear during games. Coples is more fluid than Gholston but Gholston is stonger than Coples. Doesn't matter if you don't give a shit. At least he'll get less $$$ than Vernon.

Its funny. People are ripping this pick, in the same breath they are saying he'll be a DE in our 3-4.

That's funny. As someone said before me, its SET IN STONE. He will be a 3-4 OLB.

    Learn your football. Gsshh...

Is that some kind of subtle optimism?

*shrugs* there was nothing wrong with the Pats line as it was so its not like this would suddenly make them much better - the Pats are going to be good on the O until Brady retires, might as well accept that, so long as they dont fix their crappy defence its all good.

    edit: they went Jones anyway.
