I see 3 holes on our team, no starting rb, no depth at NT, no depth at DE. 1) Trade Justin McCareins for TJ Duckett. Seems like a fair trade, two underachievers from positions of decent depth for both teams. ATL just lost Finneran for the season so JMAC could fill a #3 role for them while Duckett at least has the size to carry the load and that is the kind of back you take a chance on in a rebuilding year. (hope that he and Washington can be the thunder and lightning that duckett and dunn were two years ago) 2) Sign Grady Jackson: He is suppossedly coming in today. He is huge and we have an equally huge hole at NT. Even if he is out of shape let him start working, by mid season he can give 15-20 snaps a game and maybe more if we move D Rob to end in certain situations. 3) Sign Mattias Askew to play 3-4 DE. He was just released today by the bengals and is a talented 300 pounder who has had some trouble. Not exactly a "mangini type" but hes not a real trouble maker. Wasnt fitting in w/ Lewis' defense but maybe he'd be a better fit here. If not, hes a bench player anyways. People keep talking about NT but really where is our DE depth? Dave Ball?!? We should take a flyer on this guy. If we made these 3 moves I would feel much more confident going into the season. Jackson would provide depth and would allow us to not be totally screwed should another DL go down. Duckett and Askew are young guys that I'd be willing to take a flyer on and without a lot of investment but have the potential to bring big rewards and fewer holes to file next year.
Let's look at this from a cap perspective, although I see no way TJ Duckett for McCareins goes down. McCareins: Signed thru 2010. Here are his base salaries 2006 2242000.00 2007 2914600.00 2008 3087200.00 2009 3259800.00 2010 2500000.00 He also has 4M of signing bonus left outstanding. We'd be hit with 1M this year and 3M next or 4M this year in dead $. TJ Duckett: Signed thru 2007 2006 663000.00 2007 700000.00 He also has a little over 2M remaining in signing bonus. Falcons and take it all this year or split it over 2 yrs. There is NO WAY the Falcons take on McCareins thru 2010 at those figures. If we do this deal, and take all 4M this year on the cap, our "net" cap hit would be 2.42M in 2006. (In other words, it would cost us 2.42M more to have Duckett on the team in 2006 than it would cost us to have Duckett). If we split it over 2 seasons, it would be 579K cheaper to have Duckett this year, and 785K more in 2007 to have Duckett (since 3M of McCareins would be left but his 2.9M base would go away). For the Falcons, if they take all 2M this year, it would cost 3.579M to have McCareins. If they split it it would cost 2.579M to have McCareins this year and 3.2M more next.
When I heard they were trying Kimo, a lifelong end, at NT, that's when I knew this defense was not ready. Isn't Jackson aging by now though? And if they money balanced out, I would do J-Mac for Duckett but with the contract differences, that's not happening unless we throw something else in.
where is chester mcglockton (sp) where is chester the molester when you need him? remember him from a few years ago, we signed him to take up space. he was a big big big fat DT that just clogged up the middle. get his old a$$ back in here.
I think people are assuming that just because Duckett isn't the featured back in the Falcons' running game that he must be some sort of bust, or underachiever. Nothing could be further from the truth. Duckett's style of running simply doesn't fit the Falcons' zone blocking, one-cut running scheme. He's more of a straight-ahead, bust right through the hole runner. If given 15-20 carries a game, Duckett could run for 1100-1400 yards, IMO. As for McCareins, the Falcons will most likely be looking for help along the Defensive line. What say Duckett for Dewayne Rob., straight up?
So the point is -- dont make any moves? I guess you are very happy that we gave up playing this season b/c we cant win the super bowl -- so why bother.
Now was that my question? My question was does the poster think those 3 moves would push us to the SB? My case I sincerely doubt it. H'mmm if Woody could keep the season tix ho;lder $$$ & forfeit the games due to the embrassment that is upcoming he just may have done that. JMHO
Cannot do much worse then all the GMs we have had in he last 37 years that have gotten us NOWHERES right?
Well to bad on Saints fans but my only interest is the NYJs. Just remember since the merger occurred between the AFL & NFL the NYJs like the Saints/Cards/Lion have never won NOTHING.
If you were GM, we wouldn't have a team on the field because you know we will never have a chance anyway, so why bother with all that worthless payroll?
We wouldnt have a team Champs dumbass would get rid of everyone in the organization because he thinks they wont bring us anywhere.
Judging by the fact that you have not had one single idea of your own for this team and combine that with your constant negativity makes it pretty easy to figure out you don't exactly have the skill set to be a successful GM..
