In NFL football the ultimate goal is winning a Super Bowl. The NYJETS havent repeated that feat for 43 years. Its ok for Rex to spew his bullshit and he won nothing here so far, but its not ok for Joe Namath to spout off?
Funny how the young Jets fans get all bent out of shape when all Namath does is speak the truth. Yea, go kill the messenger who happens to be the greatest Jet player ever.
Guy was MIA through the Kotite years and years of crap and now shows up to blabber what everyone else already knows.... No need for it to come from him true or not...... He brings NOTHING to the table.... BEAT OLD MAN... Go back under your rock.
Like a broken clock, every once in awhile Tex is right. You can't help noticing how it's more the younger fans who get their panties in a bunch when Joe says anything critical of the team. Perhaps he's like the ghost of Christmas past for them (and ftr I don't mean ALL younger fans, obviously). For those who complain about him, he's the embodiment of past glories they have never witnessed, a reminder of how long it has been but even more than that of how their personal experience following the Jets falls short of Joe's glory days. Imo fans of other teams, who know who Namath is, do not question his right to talk about the Jets, or piss on his reputation because they disagree with what he is saying now. I think those who fit this description should get over it. I don't agree with Joe here - it makes no sense whatsoever to think Manning would have less ability to deal with whatever locker room issues there are than Sanchez would. But that he has a right to speak, and usually is right in what he says, should be beyond question.
Man this old guy really gets on my nerves these days. I have so much respect for him and everything he has done for the organization. The thing that bothers me is that in the last year he seems to really go out of his way to stir things up and just bring some negative PR to the Jets. Moving on, no one really knows what's going on in the locker room except the players. Is it as bad as some say it is, or is it just normal tension as others claim. Honestly I dont think this alone would keep Peyton out of NY. We have the best team out there that is geared to win now that is in contact with him. We do need to bring in a WR and I think Braylon is our best FA choice. With Braylons familiarity with us I think he could pick right back up where he left off (injuries pending). There's several teams out there with raw young talent that are interested in Peyton. With that in mind, that talent needs to be developed and a continuity established over the next few years before they can make a consistent impact. Peyton doesn't have that luxury, he has 3 maybe 4 years max (pending his healh) to play at a high level. I don't see him wanting to wait till his last year in the league for these teams to get it together.
A slam on tgg is somebody telling you to kill yourself. Since we're on the subject you should kill yourself
We don't need no stinking Manning! Sanchez WILL win his title and WILL prove Joe "MR. Same ol' Jets" himself Namath wrong.
I would think that by now you would have realized you shouldn't comment on articles you have not read. Ftr Namath said the Jets should stick with Sanchez. Too funny.
Namath is probably right. For a number of reasons, I cannot see Manning going to the Jets. NY media, the locker room issues at the end of the year, and it's not an easy road with NE in the division. Just being honest and objective here. I'd be really surprised if Manning ends up in green and white.
There are a number of reasons why Mannning may not want to play here but I don't see locker room issues as one of them. Peyton would solve all the locker room problems the minute he stepped in the door. The receivers would be happy, and the lineman would not screw up their blocking assignments because manning would be on their ass if they did. The ny media, pats in the division( although I don't think manning would be afraid of that), cold weather, an outspoken coach, endless Eli comparisons are more legitimate reasons why he wouldn't choose ny.
Ftr I don't see the Eli angle as a clear negative. As I understand the nature of their relationship, it might be pretty cool to be neighbors while being in different conferences, let alone different divisions. I wish my brother lived closer to me or vice versa. Even if we were in the same line of work where we might find ourselves competing, I don't see how LIVING in the same area would make that any worse. Any team Peyton goes to has the risk of competing. The upside of both being in NY is if anything more than the downside. cold weather. Geez, the Jets didn't play in much cold weather this past year. More to the point I don't think Manning is a pussy. Now Ryan is a negative??? I have no reason to think Manning would not get along with Rex. Rex is outspoken as being a huge fan of his. WHat is the problem? If anyone and I mean anyone in sports can handle the media better than Peyton Manning, I would like to know who that is. The Pats? Why do we think Manning is afraid of them? Jet fans look at this from only our perspective, but Colts fans hate NE, too. Maybe Manning feels the same and would love to knock them off their perch. I don't think any of your reasons hold up.
Actually it's a good question: what are the odds Peyton Manning chooses to go into a locker room potentially full of anonymous sources?
Mehta reports that nobody in the Jets locker room talks to anybody, they just leave anonymous notes in teammate's lockers
I would have to disagree with some of this, 1) Peyton loves the spotlight, he's an extrovert that has been in numerous commercials and even appeared on SNL. Why would beat writers (that he's dealt with since 1998) bother him? 2) I don't think playing the Pats twice a year would be a big enough reason for him to even factor in. I personally think he would relish playing against Brady. 3) People make way too much out of this cold weather "issue". Peyton has never stated he didn't like playing in cold weather. Bill Polian even said that it's not an issue at all and that he didn't expect it to factor into his decision at all. 4) To me I think this could be one of the actual issues. Then again there are so many players that just love him so who knows, I'd say Peyton wont even know till he talks with him. 5) Finally I see Eli being in NY as a reason why he would want to come here not a reason why he wouldn't. The comparisons have always been there, they will always be there, when Peyton is gone and retired and Eli is still playing they will still be there. As Eli made his run to the SB this year that's all they did in the media was compare and Peyton wasn't even playing! Eli has already stated he thought it would be cool for Peyton to come to NY. There's more to it than Eli and Peyton being closer, but their kids and wives being able to spend more time together and Archie and Olivia being able to go to NY and see their family.
