The thing I really don't like about the trade is that there are too many ifs and buts about Suggs. Yes he may have all the tools , but they're no good on the bench. And we traded him for a nickel/ dime back who happens to be healthy. Oh and one of those backs is Mickens. How long before Mickens gets burnt and we hear , we needed Strait. Suggs=Bust
I wouldn't go as far as to say"suck", inexperienced is more the word. Suggs on the other hand has shown some promise.....Obviously Mangini and co. have not seen enough promise from our backs, so they went and got a RB with some experience....
your absolutely right joewillie....straight won the thorpe award for best defensive player in college....
I'm curious as to why gustoonarmy is complaining about our lack of depth at nickelback when we don't even have a running back. Moreover, he fails to realize that Strait, who has not suffered any major injuries and is in his prime, was playing BEHIND Ray Mickens, an undersized, overaged corner coming off of a major knee injury. Baffling... -X-
Shakes head...This team makes it so hard to cheer for them. This is what happens when you bank on 33 year old RBs w/ more than 10 years of averaging over 300 carries coming of knee surgery. You end up having to make what I call band-aid moves. Moves that temporarily covers up but do not heal. Most teams would consider that major need going into the off-season off age alone (see Marshall Faulk/Steven Jackson, Priest Holmes/Larry Johnson, Eddie George/Chris Brown, Corey Dillon/Laurence Maroney and so on) but not us. Apparently our major needs were OT, C, QB, ILB and S. What happens if Suggs plays well enough or just plays enough games to put us out of draft position for a quality RB like Peterson, Lynch or Bush next year? Is this a good trade or indifferent trade then. You don't make these kind of trades when you are rebuilding. You end up in the limbo of perpetual mediocrity at best (see the Knicks).
Funny all I get from Newyorkjets.com is......... "The Jets have not released an official depth chart at this time." My point being , seeing as I didn't make myself clear is that our secondary for the most part was/is pretty much set, at RB however we are glaringly short of talent and whilst the introduction of Suggs is a step in the right direction , I feel that he is not going to sugnificantly upgrade our situation
So you are sayin that we should just make sure we suck really bad this year so that we can get Adrian Petersen? I cannot get with that attitude. I believe we should try to win every game and get to the Super Bowl this year. It is not likely, but it is a requirement for any team that fields a team.
This is a microcosmic statement that portrays the true settling nature of a Jets fan. You don't necessarily like him but at least his better than what we got. It's kind of like knowing Herm Edwards is not a championship winning type coach but at least he is better than Rich Kotite.
The thing I like about Suggs is that he can be a recieving threat as well. He's pretty versatile. IF he can stay healthy.
I just want a running back that can pick up the blitz and not get Pennington/Ramsey/Clemons killed. Anything else is a total bonus
No that's what you are saying. It's clear we are rebuilding. If that's the case, you don't look for short-term solutions. Also, it should have never come down to this. There is no reason why a team should have to trade for a RB when they already have 3 guys on the roster which they acquired fairly recently. Both Blaylock and Houston were acquired last year and Washington this past draft. I rather we fire the f*cking idiots that brought them in than make a trade to cover (like a band aid reference in my earlier post) their mistake; addition by subtraction. To count on Martin this year was borderline small yellow bus material.
