We need to put him in a tent on The West Bank (Jim Rome). CM is a sure fire HOF RB. When you weigh the production, the longevity, the leadership, the example, the team player, community involvement, etc...... CM must be in the HOF. So he doesn't have a SB ring. That is not the only tell-all and measuring stick in the NFL. The NFL and sports in general could use a lot more CMs.
I know that about Long and he wasn't even listed in our above posts, so why the hell I wrote his name is beyond me! I don't see Slater as a better tackle than Martin was a RB. Moon gets no credit for his CFL days from the Selection Committee as far as that weighing into his PFHOF induction. If that was the case, we'd see a shitload of CFLers in the PFHOF. Doug Flutie would get in. The CFL has its own Hall of Fame. They don't even play the same way. Canadian football is played on a larger field and there are no fourth downs. Trust me, CFL accomplishments didn't get Moon in the PFHOF. Remember, when the HOF came into existence there was the NFL and AFL. 16 years earlier there was also a pro league called the AAFC. That league played its last season in 1949. It's where the 49ers and Browns came from. These are the reasons the place in Canton was named Professional Football Hall of Fame as opposed to National Football League Hall of Fame. There may be a few other reasons for the name, but I believe that is the main one. Martin is almost without question a better player than Marcus Allen. I mean, it's just not even close. Martin did lead the league in rushing in 2004 and was second another time.
Fuck Jim Rome.....the guy is a aggorant SOB....prob never played a sport in his life.....thats one sports reporter that i cant stand.....always got something slick 2 say.....Curtis is a certain HOF'er.....
He did have over 1,100 yards and 14 TD's the year that NE went to the Super Bowl; I think making an appearance may stand for something.
Just to clarify, JIM ROME wasn't on the show. It was some big, stupid guy who was in love with herm. The guest hosts he had on with him also said that
I don't see that at all. Allen had an explosiveness where he could take it 60 yards to the end zone. That ability alone would make me say that to say Marcus is not even close to Curtis is just plain wrong. And again, like Bettis, who was better down by the goal line and on short yardage? Remember Marcus over the top? I love Curtis, but I also try to be objective in these things.
Marcus Allen definately deserves to be a Hall of Famer, and the disparity between him and CMart is not that big. He was an NFL MVP and a Super Bowl MVP, so that definately helped his case. But for CMart to be left out of the HOF would be a travesty. He is a first ballot in my book.
Marcus Allen- 6 Pro Bowls 5 All-Pro seasons (consensus 4 times) 1985 league MVP 1982 Rookie of the Year Code: 222 career games (168 starts) 12,243 rushing yards (4.1 avg) 123 rushing touchdowns 587 receptions 5,411 receiving yards (9.2 avg) 21 receiving touchdowns longest touchdown run- 61 yards three 1,000 yard rushing seasons- 1014 in 1983, 1168 in 1984, 1759 in 1985 ********************************************************** Curtis Martin- 5 Pro Bowls 5 All-Pro seasons (consensus 3 times) 1995 Rookie of the Year Code: 168 career games (166 starts) 14,101 rushing yards (4.0 avg) 90 rushing touchdowns 484 receptions 3329 receiving yards (6.9 avg) 10 receiving touchdowns longest touchdown run- 70 yards 10 1,000 yard rushing seasons Obviously, Allen had a 74-yard touchdown run in a Super Bowl. Maybe that elevates Allen to the point where there is a big argument here. I still don't see it. Martin was consistently very good with a few great seasons. Allen was very inconsistent. He lost his starting job for multiple seasons at the middle of his career. He had one great season (1985). His rookie year was very good, maybe even great. If you want to make a case his 1983 and 1984 seasons were great, you could, I guess. I still feel Martin was a better player than Allen. I disliked the guy from 1995-97. In 1997, there was no player in the league I disliked more than Curtis Martin. I never had that kind of problem with Allen. He wasn't great enough to hate.
I just think that the Super Bowl could be the issue with Cmart, as everyone has pointed out. A lot of the great backs in the HOF have at least one ring.
