I'm really surprised Pettine isn't getting a lot of play from people. I expected us to want to lose Schotty but have him hang around while we were losing Pettine instead. That would suck.
The problem with the shake up is the biggest weakness is not going to leave, BS is coming back and nothing will change.
No way Schotty is coming back. There's a good chance his father gets hired in Tampa, and Marty will take his son with him. The writing's on the wall. You don't shake up your entire offensive staff without having plans for a new coordinator.
The jets are letting Ellard go. Callahan is leaving of his own accord. Schotty has to see the writing on the wall here. The problem is the Jets are paying him a lot more than his market value to do anything he could get hired for at this point. He has to wait out the contract somehow. If you had kids and were making 1.6 million a year you would never give up that job to make 200k somewhere. That's just not happening.
if schotty doesn't get hired for another position, I don't see how schotty doesn't get canned. Seems to be an offensive overhaul on the rise.
I think the wheels are in motion for something with the news of Ellard and Callahan today. The Jets almost certainly are going to end up eating Schotty's salary, I hope they don't get caught up in a game of chicken over a few million that doesn't even effect the cap. Do you want to eat at the buffet when it opens or at closing time after every fat slob has already picked out all the good shit?
If the Jets want someone I think that person knows that. Why not wait and see if someone takes Schotty if they dont then fire him. If they do he leaves. Either way you can have a candidate know.
I suppose you could do that if you trust them not to take other offers. Someone could always blow them away with an offer or sweet talk them away if you don't have them under contract though. You also have to consider the staff they are going to want to hire could be getting other offers. I really think it's best not to risk playing that game. I don't give a shit about Woody's money if it isn't attached to the salary cap either.
God damnit fire this clown and get the HUE train rolling !!! Cmon Rex & co. show me i can trust u all
On a second thought, Tony Sparano idea makes more sense now - especially if he is willing to work as the OL coach.
Part of the problem with not fully moving on when the team gets into a rut is that little parts of the problem hang around forever. Things the team was doing that weren't all that effective come back slowly and begin to hurt the overall picture again. Personality clashes are never completely wiped away. Favoritism remains in the hierarchy even after the favorites have been demoted. I'm glad Schotty is leaving and the Jets made that happen while allowing him to save some face. I'm happy most of the offensive staff is going with him. I'm hopeful that the Jet offense we see out there next year will look nothing like the Jet offense we saw last year and maybe even substantially different from the straight Ground and Pound that was the Jet's meal ticket in 09/10.
