i feel much more confident in a head coach thats intelligent and knows what to say and not say than in a head coach who shows up to press conferences to entertain the media and give them the playbook if they want it. and thats nothing against herm at all, he happens to be one my favorite individuals of all time.
Wow, Dave managed to squeeze in two or three sentences about the actual game of football a day before the PreSeason opener. Looks like the downward spiral of the Jets Beat Writers has officially begun.
Everyone in the NY Media is going to want to run Mangini out of town. Why? Because he doesn't give them anything. Mangini never gives away a story, so they have nothing 'juicy' to report about. He never gives personalized interviews and often says nothing more than the basics that everyone knows. Herm was way too open with the public a lot of the time.
The worst part is that he started off with "by the way" like actual football talk was an afterthought.
As I've said before, F the media. All it sounds like is bitch bitch moan, bitch bitch moan. I want Mangini to never speak a word to the media. I want the players and coaches to continue to follow suit. Mangini is not Parcells or Bellicheck. He is doing what he wants to do, nothing more, nothing less. It's HIS team to make or break. There will be losing this year. We all know this. Anyone who jumps ship during this coming season was never really a Jet fan to begin with. As has been said over and over again in this thread, let the media work for thier stories. Let them attend what practices Mangini allows them to. Let them attend games and pay attention. Who really gives a damn what the depth chart looks like going into the first preseason game? It's not a ploy to to trick Gruden. It's simply that it doesn't make a damn bit of difference. Half the guys who play tomorrow won't even be on the roster in 4 weeks. It's hillarious. The local papers have now become the news. Crap like this. The Lo Duca fiasco. Michael Kay's assclown rant. The NY media has gone way beyond appropriate behavior. Deal with it "journalists" and I use that term very lightly. You sicken me.
That's why it kind of sucks that we're in such rebuilding mode. Then again, if we have a decent season with this team, it makes him look that much better.
Pre-season paranoia After coach Eric Mangini?s paranoia reached an all-time low when he handed out a depth chart that listed the starters in alphabetical order, he refused to say who his starting quarterback would be in Friday?s preseason opener in Tampa. Any jounalist should know that if he feels someones level of paranoia has increased that surely his paranoia has reached an all-time high. I switch off first sentance with sloppy english like this.
Herms problems: -A soft camp -Injuries -Lack of imagination -Team never started winning until later in the season Manginis problems thus far: -Doesnt want to talk to the media So far I'd say Mangini has the upper hand.
