How can Schottenheimer even be in the running for a HC job when every single fan and I am sure most players think he is terrible at being an OC?
fans don't know what they are talking about, there is much more to this game than what we see on TV or at the Stadium.
I know what the play is going to be before it happens and I am just a fan. Which means the other team, whose job is to prepare for the Jets offense, CLEARLY knows. The scheme, game plan and execution are all very poorly done, especially in 2011.
Rex on ESPN radio right now. Q: If Brian Schottenheimer doesn't get a head coaching job, will he be back as offensive coordinator of the New York Jets in 2012. A: Yes.
he's not exactly in a position to say no. and you know rex, everyone is the best until they're not on the team anymore.
Would be a bad idea to say no when the guy is interviewing for HC positions that can probably get you out of the extension he just signed. If they say they are going to fire him, it hurts his chances of getting another job, and them getting out from under his extension. Why is this lost on people? He's gone, no matter what. Him getting an HC position is the cleanest, most financially desirable way for it to happen, therefore Rex is going to say he still has a job.
Why does our fat GM get a free pass? Forgetting about the fact that he knows next to nothing about football, his handling of negotiations and signings -- something he is supposedly skilled at -- have also been retarded. On national TV (Hard Knocks) you play hardball with Revis, arguably the best defensive player in the NFL and a model citizen, letting an ugly contract dispute get played out in the media. The next year, you gift-wrap a 5-year 50 million dollar contract to Holmes, a talented but mercurial malcontent with a history of off-the-field issues. You let go of "character" and "leadership" guys like Cotchery, Thomas Jones 2 years ago, etc, then when things implode, you complain that you don't have enough character and leadership. You are the GM, yet you let Rex take John Conner, who might have been an UDFA anyway, with a mid-round pick when there were so many other more pressing needs on your football team.
you wont because the front office is blind and would rather pretend everything is ok than make necessary changes
Because he's not as fat as Rex. Ok seriously, because the 06 and 07 drafts were good. 08 looks bad, and we can't really judge 09 until the Sanchez thing resolves itself. All in all, I really like Tanny, he's aggressive and in the past it seemed that Jets GM's were too conservative. Plus with the history of bad drafting the Jets have, Tanny looks brilliant just for finding the "core four".
he played hardball with revis because it was a freaking holdout. those aren't meant to be cordial. it was in the media already. all hard knocks showed was some car ride dialogue and a shot of where the secret meeting took place. come on. holmes hasn't been a good signing so far but it's not like it was a terrible deal at the time. we were in a position where we had to sign him and it got done. we didn't want braylon back. imagine if holmes hadn't been re-signed. most likely, he would have had a better year than he had with the jets and we would be blowing up, asking why tanny fucked up by NOT signing holmes. cotch wanted out for whatever reason. do people really miss thomas jones? you want leaders that give you actual production. not extra coaches in the locker room. also, thomas jones beat up kc's first round draft pick wr and broke his hand. imagine how much that story would have blown up if it had happened in the jets locker room. for a running team, we needed a fb. t-rich only had a year or two left in the tank. what was it? a 5th round pick? for an all american fullback. not really that bad. picks like ducasse and not doing anything for o-line depth are far greater mistakes than being rude to revis. tanny doesn't get a free pass but overall, i think he's done much more good than bad.
^^ I agree with this - I have not hated any of his deals at the time and he has made some good moves in the past (its just things have been lacing of late) Aside from Braylon I did not really have an issue with any of the guys that they let go - it would have been nice to keep Ellis but he got offered a lot more thna he was worth.
People keep saying he let this person go, but really look at what happened. They wanted Brad back, but is he worth what buffalo paid him? Ellis is done, and this season showed that. Edwards was not healthy; although, this is the WR I would have preffered to have, but I think Turner could develop nicely with an actual offseason. He showed promise at the end and was on the field more and more. So many of the players that left either had nothing left or were overpaid to not produce. We cant just pay players ridiculous amounts of money to essentially sit on the bench and be character guys. It doesn't make sense.
There is NO NFL team that will sign him to be HC. He will be the OC of the Jets until he becomes HC of the Jets in 2016. He will later become GM and be offered 10% ownership of the team. This is what Marty and Woody plan for this rising star. That's how I see this train wreck ending.
You forgot to mention giving schotty a contract extension and now having to wait whether he gets a HC job before he can let him go. Imagine, whether you fire somebody being based on whether that person gets a job somewhere else. Oh wait, you don't have to imagine. Tanny did just that. Is there any team that is dumb enough to hire schotty as their HC? But Tanny was dumb enough to give him an extension before the season. Based on what? His great record?
